Is there just less content being posted now?

Been a MNer for 16 years I think. For the first time ever, I’m finding nothing to read. The same threads hang around for days and days. Active is a longer list than it used to be, but seems to have threads that have not been added to.

I will keep popping in because FWR is so informative, but I no longer feel this is somewhere to come for entertainment or amusement. (Although I did lol at Frubes for the fanjo yesterday!)

OP posts:

I remember when AIBU started (no idea when as I've been here a while) and I hid it then. Could be time to hide it again.

I find that some parts of MN still have the feeling it had but there does seem to be a lot more unpleasantness. I would be wary of posting anything that really mattered to me I think.

megletthesecond · 19/06/2022 13:32

I've given up checking "threads I'm on" as it doesn't seem to cut off after 4 days anymore. It's just a massive list now. Hence I don't pop back to post again as I can't be bothered to check old threads.

WonderWine · 19/06/2022 13:41

I've been here a LOOOOONG time, but since the site relaunch my usage has dropped off massively. It's just too much like hard work and the user interface is crap (lots of blank rows, no advanced search etc).

With a few exceptions (FWR being one) MN also seems like a much less 'intelligent' place than it used to be - just lots of people asking inane questions they could have googled, or flinging insults around.

Sparklingbrook · 19/06/2022 13:43

Is there a search function at all at the moment?

WonderWine · 19/06/2022 13:44

User4387075 · 19/06/2022 07:53

Can''t post about anything nice at the moment anyway as people just pile on with 'don't you know people can't afford to eat' to every thread

And you can't post anything about kids over 16 being difficult as the response is always 'kick them out, tell them to get a job' Grin

Then once they are 18 they are on their own and you can forget you ever had them.

JaneJeffer · 19/06/2022 13:51

I don't mind the ones that could have been googled because they can turn out to be a good chat but then someone comes along to say why didn't you just google and it turns into a slanging match.

Also you can't ask why someone feels the way they do about something without them taking it as a personal insult.

SpinningRoundRightRound · 19/06/2022 13:52

Thank god for FWR. At least you can get a decent academic discussion over there about political philosophy, current legal cases and biscuits.

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/06/2022 13:57

I have been thinking this, and am going to try hiding AIBU and a few others. Often I discover good threads late because they are bumped active by the big fat threads (I think). There is definitely less variety showing up @MNHQ you might want to look at this. And or attracting more / a bigger variety of members if that’s also the issue.

The lack of humour that derails naturally funny threads is boring also.

ginslinger · 19/06/2022 14:12

I'm another who's been here since it were fields and I really struggle with how many people just seem to want a fight - someone posts a question and there's an instant response which asks a huffy question in reply which is totally unhelpful. And yes, content seems down and I wonder how much this is because of the lack of joy in responses

Oblomov22 · 19/06/2022 14:20

Sparkling I did start a thread, unusually, but it was a very obscure question.

Mn is so boring atm. Like a pp said if anyone posts anything nice, it's jumped on as insensitive because of electric bills.

I don't always want to read depressing shit. I want to see people having fun, girls screaming at a Harry Styles concert. Not all of us are depressed, or ridden with anxiety. Finishing A'levels and having your brace taken off can't even be enjoyed atm.

Sometimes though it's completely obvious that the OP absolutely wants a fight. Or to set one off then disappear which seems to be increasingly the case.

SpinningRoundRightRound · 19/06/2022 14:26

There's definitely a feeling of funny agendas in the air.

Robin233 · 19/06/2022 14:30

@Seymour5

There also seem to be more posters who start threads, never to be seen on the thread again, after others have responded. Bad manners, or simply didn’t like the responses?
^^^^
I've noticed that.
Ask really interesting question.
Lots of really support replies- then nothing.
Op has left the building.
There has been loads.

I'd be interested to know how many of these are mentioned on the websites of the tabloids, or facebook pages, or other social media.

If it's more than one a few, then I smell a rodent.

123Shush · 19/06/2022 15:01

I’ve thought for a while now that a lot of the nastier posters have come over from the DM after reading about MN threads there.

Also agree that the ‘feel’ of MN has changed, and I’m a relative newbie having only been here for 7 years (with a few name changes)

Aye. A big boy did it and ran away territory.

I think you might be right, and it's on the increase.

The Mail Online is very male England-centric, isn't it?

On Mumsnet, if a poster back in the old days of green fields used, say, standard Scottish expressions like 'chapping', 'staying' or 'roasted cheese', they might be asked what they meant. Now it's just piling in - 'what on earth is roasted cheese?' 'What are you even saying?' etc etc. Horrible ignorant nonsense.

Aye. A big boy did it and ran away territory.

Sometimes the OP comes back after a day and a half or whatever to the bunfight they started and never posted again, and people are saying 'Where's the OP, they seem to have disappeared?'
They than say 'I haven't got all day to spend on MN like you lot' or something to that effect. They then tell everyone how busy they've been while acting shocked at the amount of replies and wondering why on earth it all kicked off. Hmm

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 19/06/2022 17:04

You forgot the ubiquitous ‘wow’ 😉

Aye sparkling - shocked at the response level my arse.

Chinny reckon you big old troll.

Stuff keeps disappearing off my "TIO"!

No idea why-makes you wonder why you bother though!

MN have put Penis Beaker on their Instagram stories today. Confused

JaneJeffer · 19/06/2022 18:06

Apart from the first post I have never read the penis beaker thread. Most of the so called hilarious threads are a pile of shite.

Really?

They must be fucking desperate.

Next it'll be 'my hubby asked me to roger him up the arse with his dead dad's stuffed squirrel in a swim nappy'.
