Been a MNer for 16 years I think. For the first time ever, I’m finding nothing to read. The same threads hang around for days and days. Active is a longer list than it used to be, but seems to have threads that have not been added to.

I will keep popping in because FWR is so informative, but I no longer feel this is somewhere to come for entertainment or amusement. (Although I did lol at Frubes for the fanjo yesterday!)

OP posts:

The vitriol does it for me. The way some people speak to each other on here is awful.

You have to tread on eggshells, or blatantly ignore people, if you don't want a row. It's so combative. There was even a mildly rude person on an innocuous, inoffensive train timetable thread today of all things. I've been here years and have the skin of a rhino but it might put others off posting.

The threads don't change much. There's still a few from a few hours ago. It's slow moving too.

Azizai · 19/06/2022 02:09

I don't know why I'm still here tbh, since the new platform it seems worse than ever.

mackthepony · 19/06/2022 02:13

Agreed.

The ick thread is the only one keeping me going at the moment

Jojoanna · 19/06/2022 03:52

Since the upgrade I have stopped posting or even engaging on MN , it's just not so user friendly

B0ssAssB1tch · 19/06/2022 06:58

I posted an innocuous thread about something boring in a dull sub forum the other day as wanted more information about a subject. I got jumped all over by some very nasty people just for asking a question.

It's definitely put me off. I've been here years, i can't see me starting any more threads any time soon. The default response by lots of people seems to be very thinly disguised personal attacks without even properly reading the OP or considering if their response is going to add anything constructive. You always got some nasty bastards but now it's overwhelming. Every single thread I've seen recently.

User4387075 · 19/06/2022 07:53

Can''t post about anything nice at the moment anyway as people just pile on with 'don't you know people can't afford to eat' to every thread

Daisyroseandhyacinth · 19/06/2022 08:08

If anyone finds another site which is better, please let us know.
I can’t PM anyone now either since the site has changed. Don’t know why.
It doesn’t seem like MN HQ are listening to any of the complaints or
trying to do anything about changing things

Daisyroseandhyacinth · 19/06/2022 08:09

To delete whole topics you need to go into settings I have found after much trial and error.

Sparklingbrook · 19/06/2022 09:30

Hiding topics does improve things a bit. I only have 9 visible topics, so I don't see a lot of the Relationship madness or FWR, or any of the baby stuff unless it pops up in AIBU or Chat.
But a skim down Active sometimes is like Groundhog Day. There's a driving/non driving one that's been going about a week now with everyone saying the same old things (including me Hmm), nothing really changes with those sort of threads. You could copy and paste some answers and insert them where necessary.

Mindymomo · 19/06/2022 09:33

I must admit I read some posts and cannot actually believe what I’m reading. My life is so boring.

So do what everyone else does and make stuff up. Grin You can be whatever you want here.

MarshaBradyo · 19/06/2022 09:55

I hide the ones full of moaning now

just too depressing

I used to look at trending to see if there was anything interesting to read and there nearly always was and it changed all the time. Now it's the same threads for hours or even days on end. At least it seems like it. And even the old emoticons have gone.

You can still use the old emoticons. If you click the emoji button there is a blue Mumsnet M at the end of the row - click in that and they are all there!

I also discovered the other day if you start typing the square bracket and the MN code fir the emoji, the original ones pop up too.Wink

debbrianna · 19/06/2022 10:13

I have found starting a new thread really difficult at the moment. I will only go through the steps if I really need to. It used to be so easy on the phone.

Agree. Sometimes its a windows into a whole other world of unpleasantness that I didn't know existed.

I can't quite put my finger on it, but it's almost like it's a deliberate strategy. But why? To damage the site and the reputation of MN? Then why doesn't MNHQ do something about it? Has the move to the new platform hampered its ability to handle trolls and idiots and previously banned posters (PBPs)?

Or is there a new mod culture, that's not that fussed about 'user experience'? Can't see that flying too well with the mum-and-baby-focused avertisers.

And I'm still highly suspicious of that email data leak, that occurred at and by MNHQ (I mean 'MNHQ' in the sense of who's responsible - could have been an intern working from their bedroom but ykwim).

Top tip! Thanks, @Seeline - it works Smile

MayDaze · 19/06/2022 10:51

There are a more threads that appear to be journalistic in style and dare I say..... Maybe from inside? Not trolling, just definitely designed to get a response.

Designed to be lifted by the Mail Online, you mean? I had wondered.

They're everywhere, like locusts in the green fields wot this used to be.

FinanceLPlates · 19/06/2022 13:08

@JustineMumsnet (I know it’s the weekend so no answer expected today of course, but I hope you read this thread and it provides some constructive food for thought)
I really feel this is a critical moment for the survival of Mumsnet as a force for good (good support, good learning about important issues, good fun….)
I’d hate to see it become a wasteland.
What’s the plan to rectify the tech issues?
Could the moderation policy be reviewed?
What can we do to help?

TheRoadToRuin · 19/06/2022 13:23

Perhaps it's a sign of being here too long but the repetition is tedious. Same old topics done to death.
I don't remember so much anger and venom as I see now.
I have long since hidden anything to do with babies. Perhaps it's time to prune more ruthlessly.

Oblomov22 · 19/06/2022 13:26

Agreed. Where are all the threads. Hardly any new active postings.

It's not really allowed to moan about the same old topics being endlessly debated. You get told that it's the first time for some people. That said though, the bunfighty topics seem to get a weekly thread lately.

3luckystars · 19/06/2022 13:28

New update is making things very difficult. I’m surprised there is anyone left.

And if you say things like that you get told to start some threads yourself. Grin
