A few more for the snagging list

MN team, I can see you are hard at work fixing glitches as a lot of the problems from yesterday seem to be improving (I no longer have the black box over my PMs, or the empty lines at the top of each page, for instance). Thank you for your hard work!

A few that still appear for me, for your reference:

  • On all platforms, Trending and Active are still not working properly, full of zombie threads and not updating
  • On Chrome on my laptop, I have tried to post this thread multiple times and got a “checking your browser, captcha” box pop up on the screen and then a 403 error box over the whole screen and have lost this post multiple times…
  • On Chrome on my laptop, some long links are not wrapping in posts and extend out to the right beyond the edge of the post (see for instance post by @ButtonMoonLoon on this thread: www.mumsnet.com/talk/site_stuff/4534587-was-anyone-on-here-a-tester-for-this-awful-new-site
  • On Chrome on my laptop, when you flip a thread, it leaves the OP at the top (this doesn't happen on the iOS app, where the most recent post is at the top)
  • On the iOS app, when you filter by OP and then click the link to go to one of their posts it always takes you to their first post, even if you're selecting one from later down the thread
  • On the iOS app, old threads have a lot of html showing around where emojis used to be, and line breaks are showing as <br>
  • On the iOS app, the apple emojis are the right size but the MN emojis are squashed, they’re the right width but about 2/3 the hight they should be
  • On the iOS app, posts that have a quote in them are all run together between the quote and the first paragraph of the post. I think a line break is missing between the quoted part and where the post starts. See for instance the comments by @crackingreward on this thread: www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4534652-aibu-to-think-that-the-spice-girls-were-absolute-rubbish
Hope that helps! I'll add to this snagging list as I come across stuff. And also let you know if they're fixed!

I have my laptop screen enlarged to 110-120% as my eyesight isn't all that. I've never had any kind of problem with that on any other site or forum, but on new Mumsnet, the scroll bar disappears, so I have to take it back to 100% which means I'm peering.

hi @saraclara sorry you're having this issue - we've just tried to recreate it here and the scroll bar works fine for us when we zoom. Can I ask which device and browser you're using? And can you share an example of a URL that the scroll bar is disappearing on for you?

I was just looking at the thread in FWR on Girl Guiding, and towards the end somebody used italics in a post. From that point every single bit of text in the thread showed in italics for me. Laptop, Chrome, web version of MN.

Hi - can you share the URL of the thread this happened on? And if it's not too much trouble, a screenshot of what it looks like?

ifIwerenotanandroid · 29/04/2022 13:24

Has anybody mentioned 'Search' yet? What's with the slider for dates? I'm used to using these double-ended sliders for car prices & ages, but I couldn't make this one make sense in terms of the dates it was using or the order of the resulting posts. All I wanted was to see the most recent thread on a topic, & that seemed impossible. It used to be possible. I get the impression that MN have added lots of whizzy choice to the search facility, which results in it being less useful than it was before.

Assuming this hasn't happened twice this is where it is for me:

Has MN actually said whether not taking users to the first new post in a thread is a bug or a feature?

Thanks sue. It's a Lenovo ideapad 710s, using chrome.
I've just zoomed again and at the moment I still have the scroll bar. But it's been an intermittent problem for the last few days. I'll keep it zoomed, then when it happens again I'll send you the url.

Still can't get rid of the constant consent request box. I can't swipe to delete Mumsnet.

also, there needs to be a button to delete all PMs, like there used to be, as it is taking forever to delete each one individually.

I can’t access the new site via desktop at all, I just get a 400 Bad Request page

Hi @SunshineCake have you been able to do the following? Does this get rid of the consent box constantly appearing?

iPhone & iPad
Navigate to your settings
Click on ‘Safari’
Scroll to the bottom and choose ‘Advanced’
Click on ‘Website Data’
Type ‘Mumsnet' into the search box
Swipe left on ‘Mumsnet’ and choose ‘Delete’
Macs
Open your Safari preferences
Click ‘Privacy’
Click ‘Manage Website Data’
Type ‘Mumsnet' into the search box
Click on ‘Mumsnet.com’ and choose ‘Remove’
Click ‘Done'

Thanks @Gladioli23 we'll get this fixed.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 29/04/2022 15:03

Seems to be OK now! Also very pleased indeed that we can once again post using Ctrl Return instead of having to scroll down to find Post. And the little thingy is back in the bottom right of the reply box so we can increase the size! Many thanks.

I've done it twice but don't get a swipeable mumsnet to delete

saraclara · 29/04/2022 17:03

NOOOOOOOO!!!!

I've just typed out a very long answer to someone on the Rwanda thread, with quotes from govt sites and links to various websites. I clicked on preview, tried to edit, but as soon as I click to delete something or type something, I get a black SORRY!! screen. So it looks like I'm going to lose the whole thing.

What a waste of time.

lenovo laptop, chrome

saraclara · 29/04/2022 17:08

Actually, it doesn't say SORRY! it says OOOPS! Which is even more annoying.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 02/05/2022 16:26

You still have to scroll through the OP on each new page..very annoying when they are lengthy.

freakydeaky · 02/05/2022 16:43

Re the ever present cookies consent box… I’ve followed the instructions given by @SueMumsnet to @SunshineCake and deleted Mumsnet via the search box. Still getting the cookies consent page. Just tried again and now I’m not getting Mumsnet as an option when I type it into the search box (presumably because I’ve already deleted it!)
It’s incredibly frustrating and user-unfriendly, really puts me off using the site tbh 😔

That's what happened with me though dh did it and I didn't see MN.
Every time I do anything, even go to next page, it comes up. Book mark not working either. I'm seriously thinking it might be time for me to leave. It is no fun on here anymore.

RomeoOscarXrayIndigoEcho · 16/05/2022 09:10

What on earth is going on with the quotation function? It seems people are using that and then the text they add is being cut off. At first I thought it was a user mistake but now it's happening too blooming often it must be a bug!

So annoying.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/05/2022 11:05

It's definitely a bug in the app - people have been reporting it for about a week.

User7493268965 · 16/05/2022 17:26

I just went to post on a thread and there was no box for my message

This one, webpage not app

Has the 'refresh page' button (handy for the last page or post in a thread - previously at the bottom of the page) disappeared or has it been relocated?
I can't seem to find it any more and it was extremely useful, especially for fast-moving threads. grateful for any info.
Also sort out the capitalisation, please! sometimes it works but not always. Examples in this very post.

I have the same question, it's really annoying not to have the refresh button on every thread any more.

ClaryFairchild · 16/05/2022 23:42

On a mobile phone (iPhone) and a lot of the posts seem to be cut short. Really annoying when you can't read all of any of a post.....

BertieBotts · 17/05/2022 09:41

I've got one to report. Sporadically when I press enter for a new line on my phone (android, desktop site) it inputs the line below the cursor. So the post is getting longer but I'm still typing on the same line I started on.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/05/2022 10:02

I can report the app update has solved the quote and text being cut off problem.

BotCrossHuns · 17/05/2022 10:03

Seems like none of the things i've reported are even on the list to be fixed! The huge amounts of extra space at the sides of the screen on the desktop, and the blank threads at the top, just make scrolling around much much harder.

The miniature font used for all the navigation, the titles in trending, in threads I'm on, all that sort of thing, make it very hard to read. You just can't tell if there are new posts or not.

The iphone app still isn't remembering threads I'm on or I'm watching - they all go back to white after a few hours, and you have to remember what the post count might have been. It's not connected to what you've seen/watched on the desktop either.

the post counter isn't even consistent! The desktop site shows 0 when there is just an original post and no replies, whereas the app counts this as 1. So not only are you expected to remember post counts, but you have to remember them differently for different devices.

The photos issue! I know this has been mentioned by others, but it's stil not fixed, and is the main reason I don't bother posting on a lot of threads, because I can't see the photos at all - way too tiny, and surrounded by blank white space, so any screen shots etc are unreadable, and any photos too small to see.

the constant refreshing of post lists, when you press back, so you've no idea where you are or what you've read, and can't find one that you had just spotted a minute ago.
