Could we have an "interracial" talk topic?

I would dearly love to talk to other mums in mixed relationships, about all the issues of mixed-race kids etc. I know I could start a general mixed race thread (and will do if this request is turned down), but there are so many 'sub-threads' I'd have to end up starting, from the thorny political issue of mixed-race hair to in-law (in)sensitivity, etc etc!

Oh, you're being so silly, you busy and happy woman!

hercules · 31/10/2004 18:33

Having just read a certin thread in going back to work we definetely need a good moderator.

hercules · 31/10/2004 19:21

Any offers?

hercules · 31/10/2004 20:45

bump

LipstickMum · 31/10/2004 20:50

I've been away all w/e and haven't had time to catch up on this thread yet. What was the thread you were referring too hercules?

hercules · 31/10/2004 20:51

In the going to work/childcare - aupair. Tell me what you think in case I'm being paranoid.

WigWamBam · 31/10/2004 20:55

FWIW Hercules, I don't think you're being paranoid, I thought some of the comments were racist too.

liverpooldoula · 31/10/2004 21:01

I'd like to join in too! I vote for multicultural families. I am white british, DH is black british (west african descent) DD is mixed race. Love to talk about hair!

hercules · 31/10/2004 21:02

There's a thread under "site stuff" about hair.

yingers74 · 31/10/2004 21:03

just had a look at that thread and agreed. If someone is not great at their job, it is because they are not great at their job - end of story!

yingers74 · 31/10/2004 21:04

I would also like to talk about hair!

maomao · 31/10/2004 21:10

I agree, herc, that comments on that thread made me feel uncomfortable. Then again, I have been asked whether I'm my dd's nanny (guess I look too old to be an au pair ), so perhaps I'm a little sensitive!

KatieMac · 31/10/2004 21:45

Hey guys I've tried to start a hair topic - maybe I've mislabelled it but feel free to join in.....

yingers74 · 31/10/2004 21:52

maomao, have had the same experience. One person recently said to me 'are you live in?'

Not quite the same but Dh (jamaican)& I get funny looks when out with DD (mixed & 7) and between 1 and 6 childminded children (all surprising very blond and under 3)

They really struggle to work it out

I try to get we're childminders into the conversation but DH just gets cross

Justine (mumsnet) · 01/11/2004 11:04

Ok multicultural families it is then. If anyone would like to moderate then let us know but we don't forsee it being any more or less ()contentious than any other topic. If a troll comes along our usual policy is to ignore anyway and our policy on racism is to delete. We'll put it up shortly - thanks for all the input.
