Could we have an "interracial" talk topic?

I would dearly love to talk to other mums in mixed relationships, about all the issues of mixed-race kids etc. I know I could start a general mixed race thread (and will do if this request is turned down), but there are so many 'sub-threads' I'd have to end up starting, from the thorny political issue of mixed-race hair to in-law (in)sensitivity, etc etc!

Can I join too please? Don't mind what it ends up being called

Well yingers, either Multicultural Parenting or ... Interracial Parenting?

OP posts:

Both are fine with me, i guess with the first, more people would be included as marina said. I would fit into both.

KatieMac · 28/10/2004 21:15

Heinz 57?

Sorry I shouldn't be flip.....
I'm in a mixed/multicultural relationship
I think I'd prefer Multicultural
But as my DD has only recently got her own racial group on questionaires - the name might be less important

Shimmy21 · 28/10/2004 21:16

Oh brill - the thread I've been waiting for but didn't know until now! Yes, me and dh are a multiracial pair -languages, religions, culture the lot is different for the two of us. Would love to hear how other people work through these issues. Our pressing one at the moment is dh's homesickness and my reluctance to relocate.

yingers74 · 28/10/2004 21:19

Shimmy21, that is one i don't have to worry about. both of us are london born, although he would love to leave london for anywhere else!!! I love london and can't see myself ever moving far.

KatieMac · 28/10/2004 21:22

Would transcultural be a suitable name?

marthamoo · 28/10/2004 21:23

That makes me think of Rocky Horror - sorry! I'm just a sweet transvestite, from transcultural Transylvania. It could just me my strange brain though....

KatieMac · 28/10/2004 21:27

Is that a bad thing Marthamoo ?

Well maybe

marthamoo · 28/10/2004 21:29

It's probably just me, KatieM .....just have this image of Tim Curry in fishnets now.

hercules · 28/10/2004 21:31

Dh would love to go back but luckily for me it's not possible for lots of reasons.

Shimmy21 · 28/10/2004 21:31

What about 'mixed race/culture families'?

I see your point.

marthamoo · 28/10/2004 21:33

That sounds OK to me, shimmy - more self explanatory.

mammya · 28/10/2004 21:45

I'm in too! My dd is also mixed race, and I'm, erm, not really mixed race but, multiethnic?
How about multiethnic parenting for a thread title? Would that cover everything?

hercules · 28/10/2004 21:47

Like that one.

marthamoo · 28/10/2004 21:51

I think that covers most eventualities (this is nothing to do with me btw - I'm just nosy!)

Shimmy21 · 28/10/2004 21:58

How do we get it to happen?

Shimmy21 · 28/10/2004 22:00

A new topic I mean (not a multi ethnic rerlationship!)

yingers74 · 28/10/2004 22:00

marthamoo - lol u are funny!

marthamoo · 28/10/2004 22:00

Well, Carrie's aware of this thread - they'll get on it I would have thought. Don't think you need to email thenm or anything - lou or missuswoman would know but they don't seem to be around tonight.

hercules · 28/10/2004 22:00
