Getting this on ipad safari

Click away, come back, there it is.

There's granular consent and granules of granular 😂

And it came up again straight away after posting this message...

MattTech · 14/01/2021 08:40

Thanks again to everyone for their patience with this. I know it's incredibly frustrating. It's frustrating for me, too, because I can't replicate it without the "Block all Cookies" setting being turned on.

I went to the extreme last night and factory reset my iPad to see if I could force it to show me the popup multiple times, but I couldn't get it to show it more than once.

As was explained in this thread, we're using a Google product that shows this popup. We've got a technical support request open with them to see if they can help us to rectify the problem and we're waiting one of their Technical Solutions Managers to get back to us.

This problem should absolutely not be happening for anyone, and I want to reassure you all again that this is being treated as the top priority at MNHQ. We want all of our users to be able to enjoy using the site, and problems like this spoil that enjoyment for the people that it affects.

I'm hoping to have another update for you later today, but I'll keep you all updated regardless.

Once again, thank you for bearing with us. We will get this resolved as soon as we possibly can.

Thanks

Matt

littlbrowndog · 14/01/2021 09:15

Still getting it occasionally

iPad 8th gen

Soft 14.3

JollyAndBright · 14/01/2021 09:46

The block all cookies setting is off.

I’m on an iPhone 11 and on iOS 14.3

It’s also happening on DPs iPhone 12 Pro on ios 14.3 in exactly the same way when I tried logging in there (I’ve never logged in on his phone before and I don’t think he’s ever been on MN on his phone before but it still had exactly the same issue.)

Bluntness100 · 14/01/2021 10:23

I get it when i flip off the site, but leave it open, just go to another tab. When I come back again to it, it asks me to consent again.

AaronPurr · 14/01/2021 10:27

Another one who has been getting increasingly fustrated with this issue. I'm really surprised no one from MNHQ seems to be able to replicate / experience it, when it's such a widespread issue among users.

Halsall · 14/01/2021 10:55

Just putting in my daily report Hmm

No cookie message when I first looked at a thread on an already-opened tab this morning - hurrah.

Just went back to exactly the same tab and thread after an hour or two and up popped the cookie message. BOO. Clicked off all the permissions for the zillionth time and clicked 'submit' to get rid of it. Hurrah.

Thought I'd check one of the other tabs I had open and - yes, the cookie message popped up again instantly. Even though I'd literally just dealt with it and submitted on the other tab, and I'm logged into the site so surely my preferences ought to have been remembered?

I feel as though I'm now devoting a disproportionate amount of my time each day to clicking through cookie preferences on MN.

OhCaptain · 14/01/2021 11:00

I know MNHQ say this is a google issue but this is the only site I have this one.

Also find it really weird that none of them are getting it but there are so many of us getting it!

MattTech · 14/01/2021 12:12

Once again, thank you for bearing with us whilst we try to get this issue resolved. I'm keeping a close eye on this thread and again, let me reassure you that we're doing everything we can to get this fixed.

@JollyAndBright It's interesting that DP's phone is also having this issue. Thank you for trying that. That could possibly suggest that this isn't a device-specific issue and could be a connection / location-dependant issue. That gives me something else to try in order to replicate this.

@AaronPurr We've had a number of the team try it on various devices. I've personally tested it on at least 6 different iOS devices I have available and it doesn't happen on any of them. Sad I really do appreciate that it looks like it's a widespread issue but only a tiny fraction of our users are reporting this which makes it extremely difficult to pin down as it doesn't happen for the vast majority. That doesn't make it any less important, of course. This absolutely should not be happening and I can understand how frustrating it is for everyone who's experiencing it.

@OhCaptain We don't know for certain that it is a Google issue, but that's what we suspect at the moment as, apart from a small change yesterday to attempt to help with this issue, no other changes have been made to the code that handles that popup. We'll know more when we've managed to get one of their Technical Solutions Managers on the phone to help us troubleshoot more.

We're asking everyone at MNHQ to browse the site on their personal iOS devices in order to attempt to replicate this issue. We really do want to get this resolved, but without being able to sit with a device that has the issue and see what's different about it, it's really tricky.

If anyone who is experiencing this issue would be willing to jump on a call with me to share their screen so that I can see the issue happening, that would really help us to pin this down so that I can get it resolved. If you would be willing to do that, send me a private message or an email to [email protected] and we can arrange something.

Thanks again for your continued patience with us whilst we get this sorted out.

Still happening, Iphone IOS 14.3, Safari, set to accept cookies. Bloody annoying.

Still happening constantly

Oh it wasn’t a criticism - I just think it’s so weird!
RockyRoadster · 14/01/2021 12:23

It might be that although only a small number of users are reporting it, a large number are experiencing it, but like me are not reporting it as others are already doing so. I’m just keeping an eye on this thread to see if any progress is being made. I’m getting it intermittently on both my iPhone and iPad

I agree it will definitely be affecting more than have reported the problem here. I've been experiencing it for a while now but only commented today. Like you i've been following the thread hoping for a resolution.
JollyAndBright · 14/01/2021 14:19

I don’t know if it’s of any use but I’ve noticed that it happens every single time I refresh a page without fail except if I have recently posted of the thread, then it doesn’t happen no matter how many times I refresh (in a row) for for a short while after, it only starts to happen again if I go off the page or off safari completely for a while and come back to it, then it starts happening again.

I don’t know if that helps at all, it’s just something I noticed.

mynameiscalypso · 14/01/2021 15:32

I mainly use the app but when I Google something and Mumsnet (eg mumsnet separation anxiety) and get a list of google links to old Mumsnet threads and then click on each link, it opens a new tab in safari with the pop up. Could coming from Google be something to do with it?

SunshineCake · 14/01/2021 15:46

Just happened again. iPad. Chrome. I wonder if it happens when you have been off the site for a while ?

MattTech · 14/01/2021 16:31

Hi again, everyone. Thanks again for your patience with this - it's really appreciated.

We've had a call with Google and they've been able to replicate the problem themselves. It seems very much like this is a problem at their end and they've escalated the issue internally to try to get it resolved.

We're waiting once again for them to come back to us, but we're hopeful it will be sooner rather than later.

In the meantime, thank you once again for bearing with us. I understand how frustrating this is. As soon as we hear back from Google, I'll make sure to post back on here to give an update.

Thanks again

Matt

PinkBuffalo · 14/01/2021 17:18

That is great that google can see the issue and trying to sort it
Thank you 🙂

silverstarfish · 14/01/2021 17:29

Thank you for trying to sort this out and for the update.

I stay logged into mumsnet with no other issues (it remembers me every time) - it’s literally just the advertising cookie settings that it doesn’t remember.

SunshineCake · 14/01/2021 19:28

Mine is off too and randomly happens.

littlbrowndog · 14/01/2021 19:51

Even pressed ok to accept to test, only for message to pop back up 2 mins later
