Fingers crossed - I haven't had the cookies message for the last day. So thank you @MattTech for pursuing this and letting us know. Let's hope the problem is now resolved.

FancyPuffin · 22/01/2021 17:42

I’m scared to jinx it but, it seems to be fixed. Thank you @MattTech

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/01/2021 18:06

Fixed here. Thank you

PinkBuffalo · 24/01/2021 23:16

All fine for me last couple of days
Thank you 🙂

MattTech · 25/01/2021 08:45

Hi all...

I'm really glad that it's fixed for everyone now Smile

Please let me know if there are any more issues with this and I'll get them looked at as soon as possible.

Hopefully you can all enjoy MN distraction-free again now! Smile

Thanks

Matt

It’s back with a vengeance, every page has the cookie message... still chrome, still an iPad.

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/01/2021 11:24

Fine for me still

Hope haven’t jinxed it now

SlopesOff · 01/02/2021 22:36

I am getting it on Brave browser, site is impossible to view unless I consent. I will not consent. Am currently on Edge but not staying as I hate Edge.

This needs fixing, isn't it illegal or something to force people to accept cookies? Or is MN trying to drive us away if we don't play the game?

SlopesOff · 02/02/2021 15:52

Anyone there @MattTech ?

Still getting it as per my post above. Is Brave a browser that MN is unable to cope with?

MattTech · 02/02/2021 16:22

@SlopesOff Thanks for getting in touch. Apologies that it's taken me a day to get back to you.

What settings have you got for Cookies in Brave? If you click the lion icon on the right of the tab bar, there is a setting with three options:

  • Cookies Blocked
  • Cross-site cookies blocked
  • All cookies allowed

What is this set to for you?

If it's set to block all cookies then we can't store that you've seen the cookie popup and you'll see it on every page.

Hope that helps.

Thanks

Matt

SlopesOff · 03/02/2021 09:14

I have changed it for other sites, I know MN is heavy on tracking and that is the point of using Brave.

It is the only site that does this which concerns me. Not one other site I visit with Brave gives me this every time. Surely I should be able to block unwanted intrusions?

MattTech · 03/02/2021 14:13

@SlopesOff Thanks for getting back in touch.

You're absolutely able to block unwanted cookies in Brave for Mumsnet, but unless we can store that you've seen the cookie message, it will appear on every page visit.

In Brave, if you select the "Cookies blocked" option for a site, that blocks every single cookie - both from the site owner and from 3rd parties - that may be in use on that site.

If that is the option that you've chosen, seeing the cookie message on each page is expected behaviour, and browsing other sites with the same settings will give you the same results. For example, browsing the BBC site with all cookies blocked will show their cookie message on every page, even if you accept all of their cookies and dismiss the message. This even happens on the ICO web site who are responsible for the cookie legislation.

I hope this helps to explain why you're seeing the cookie message multiple times.

Unfortunately, without being able to store that you've seen the message, we have to show it on every page.

Thanks

Matt

SunshineCake · 09/02/2021 15:55

Started again..

rslsys · 09/02/2021 16:29

Appeared this afternoon in Edge on Windows.

MattTech · 09/02/2021 16:48

Hi all...

We made some changes to the site today, which is why the cookie message has appeared again.

This was expected, but should only appear once for you to review your choices and then should disappear again.

Thanks

Matt

cornercupboard · 09/02/2021 18:58

Doing it for me too, Chrome browser on a Chromebook, and when I've gone through and tediously reset all the "legitimate" interest ones to off, and go to click on submit, nothing happens - the button doesn't go anywhere.

PLEASE can we have a "reject all" option. Your idea of "legitimate" does not match mine.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/02/2021 21:27

It’s back again :(

Cookie message all the time?
poppycat10 · 10/02/2021 11:48

It has kicked off for me again too - on two different Windows devices.

Though not just on MN, on other sites too.

Seriously cookie warnings are making the internet unusable.

poppycat10 · 10/02/2021 11:49

MN, the message should not appear every time you make changes. It's once and done. Same as email marketing. You don't get to keep asking.

SabrinaMorningstar · 10/02/2021 15:27

Back again. As @Ginkypig pointed out, we've been raising issues with this for months. Your cookie settings are appalling. Changing to a 'reject all' would restore some confidence because atm it looks as though you don't care about users' privacy or their time. We shouldn't have to consent to linking online and offline data. This isn't standard and not one other website that I use has it. It's also not good enough to say every time you tinker with the back end, users are going to have to spend time clicking umpteen sliders to secure their privacy. I've been here for years. I've enjoyed it but unless this is resolved, I'm leaving. It's genuinely not worth it and no other forum I use has this problem.

earthyfire · 10/02/2021 16:08

This is getting beyond ridiculous now. I have to go through two pages to and endless tab rejections. Why do you want my data?

Halsall · 13/02/2021 22:59

I hate to say this, but I've had a recurrence of the message on my iPad and phone a few times too, after it seemed to have gone away for good.

More annoyingly, today it appeared for the first time ever on my desktop PC (Windows/Firefox). It hadn't ever done this before; it was only on my Apple devices. I really hope it's not starting up again.

poppycat10 · 15/02/2021 11:41

Just been asked yet again to accept cookies.

FGS.

poppycat10 · 15/02/2021 11:42

Also don't understand why I have to agree to "legitimate interest". Consent and legitimate interest are different grounds for processing data under the GDPR and by definition I only have to consent under the consent ground.

MattTech · 17/02/2021 10:14

Hi all...

Apologies for the late reply.

I just wanted to take a few minutes to explain why the cookie consent message reappears occasionally, so that you're fully informed about why we need to ask for consent again sometimes.

Occasionally, we need to add a new supplier to our list of suppliers. When we do this, a new supplier will appear in the "Vendor Preferences" at the bottom of the cookie popup. Because this is a new option, we have to show the popup again because previous consent options are now out of date. We therefore have to ask for consent again.

This doesn't happen when we make any change to the website as suggested above. It only happens when we make changes to our suppliers.

We understand that it can be frustrating to see the cookie popup from time to time when we make changes, but we'd prefer to make you aware and allow you to review your choices when things change, rather than making the changes without you being able to review your choices.

We are actively exploring other options at the moment and we hope that we'll be able to change the functionality and make it easier to reject all cookies in the coming months.

Thanks

Matt
