To wonder why I keep being thrown into threads I didnt select

It keeps happening. Everytime I click on a thread a different one opens. It's driving me mad. Anyone else having the same problem?

I just thought it was my bloody fat Cumberland sausage fingers. But it does seem to be happening a bit more frequently of late. Maybe Justine has tweaked something to annoy us and pay for the subscription.

MoreSchnitzelPlease · 12/04/2020 00:30

It's the adverts, they take longer to load than the rest of the page. When the ads do load, they bump the page down and you get taken to threads you didn't intend to click on as the page moves.

ALongHardWinter · 12/04/2020 01:54

I was thinking it was just me! Ever since I've started using my phone (as opposed to my tablet) to look at Mumsnet,I am constantly going into threads that I didn't click on. The most annoying thing is that I often start reading the thread's opening post without actually checking the title, then I end up thinking 'Eh? That doesn't bear any relation to the question',before realising once again that it's not the thread I clicked on! Angry

ALongHardWinter · 12/04/2020 01:55

Meant to add that it can take me 4 or 5 attempts sometimes to get on the right thread!

Catzpyjamas · 12/04/2020 01:57

Well this isn't the thread I thought I'd clicked on so YANBU!

Carbosug · 12/04/2020 07:58

Glad it's not just me then. Thought MN HQ had it in for me.

Me too, I'm on a tablet.

longearedbat · 12/04/2020 08:05

Me as well! Even if I wait for the page to finish loading it seems to get stuck in a cycle of selecting the wrong thing. Often I come out of mumsnet and start again. The only thing I can say is that it never used to happen.

Spied · 12/04/2020 08:08

Me too. So annoying..
I often give-up browsing and go and do something useful insteadGrin

Port1aCastis · 12/04/2020 08:08

Me too im on an android tablet so annoying

Theresnobslikeshowb · 12/04/2020 08:40

I thought it was just me!

Areyoufree · 12/04/2020 08:43

Yes, and it’s definitely got worse recently. And don’t get me started on that sodding Disney plus banner. I swear I am nowhere near it, but it still sends me to the Disney plus webpage.

Eggcited · 12/04/2020 08:46

Same here. Its very frustrating. Especially given how long it actually takes to load a thread in the first place, only for it to then be something completely different to what you actually wanted.

donquixotedelamancha · 12/04/2020 08:50

On my phone it's because the banner ad at the top of the page is slow to load and when it does it moves the threads down by a couple.

Yes, it's this. The links aren't actually where they appear to be as it starts to load.

This happens to me constantly- takes ages to load. @MNHQ I've seen this raised before, any chance of dealing with that awful banner?

SnowsInWater · 12/04/2020 08:53

I think that now there is a paid option for MN if you don't subscribe the free version will get more and more annoying until you cough up or give up. Maybe it's just me being cynical 😁

MrAlyhakinsMassiveYacht · 12/04/2020 08:55

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/3816181-Its-back-again-Random-thread-opening

It's a problem that has been around for ages and still hasn't been fixed.

TabbyMumz · 12/04/2020 08:58

Yes, me too. Especially annoying. Often it's not just the next thread up that appears, but 5 or 6 threads up.

MrsCollinssettled · 12/04/2020 08:59

All the time plus it sometimes refuses to let you navigate away from a thread. Then the only option is to close down mumsnet and start again. Not an experience l'm prepared to pay for.

TabbyMumz · 12/04/2020 08:59

"And don’t get me started on that sodding Disney plus banner. I swear I am nowhere near it, but it still sends me to the Disney plus webpage."

Yessssssss, fu**g Disney banner. Just opens of it's own accord. Hate it, hate it, hate it.

Irial · 12/04/2020 09:02

I have reported the top thread to mn, so they can answer

Eggcited · 12/04/2020 09:03

Reported back in February and still no closer to being fixed 2 months later.

Why am I not surprised. Hmm

Sometimes I wonder why we even have a site stuff to report problems.

Eggcited · 12/04/2020 09:06

I have reported the top thread to mn, so they can answer

I suspect the answer will be

  • We're looking into it
  • We'll get the tech team to have a look
  • What device / browser are you using
  • Could you let us know which thread / topic you're having the problem on

I think that covers it.

UnaOfStormhold · 12/04/2020 09:06

One thing that I find helps on my phone (android, not sure if this will work on other systems) is to long click and then select open in new tab - I can check that the link looks right for the thread I want but it almost always picks up the correct thread doing it this way. Plus when I close the new tab and go back to the links page it doesn't have to load again so generally works more reliably.

CheriLittlebottom · 12/04/2020 09:08

Glad it's not just me / my phone.

@mnhq let me guess, a premium membership will magically solve this problem? Hmm

Slychomping · 12/04/2020 09:12

Me too! It's getting really old now and driving me nuts!

I thought it was my old tablet device but then I saw how many other posters had been having problems.

Someone on another thread hinted that site was set up so that certain sponsored threads kept opening, even though another one had been clicked on, so perhaps this has got out of hand and caused a technical issue?

It is really putting me off from clicking on lots of threads ATM though as it's so much hassle!
