I tend to stick in an asterisk if I'm swearing. But can't say I'm offended if anyone else doesn't.

I would swear on late night threads or with threads that, at that moment, are populated by people I know well.

Personally it never offends me, you bunch of gobshite mares, you.

Gobshite is a fantastic word. I have to admit I love the shock value of the c word. I went through a pretentious phase of 'claiming it back for woman' when really I just loved the look on peoples faces. Equally I am aware some people find swearing offensive so don't f & blind all the time.

put an infinite number of deep sea fish in front of an infinite number of typewriters and one day one of them will type condom

May need false arms/hands to enable typing though

Good question Fio. We don't actually have a defined policy - we did once use one of those auto-asterisk applications for a list of rude words but it all went horribly wrong - all sorts of words that contained rude words kept getting deleted, if you see what I mean? In general we would prefer people to asterisk or not to use language that the majority find offensive - i'm thinking the c-word here certainly and even the f-word (though it's debatable these days) - as we are not here to offend and we would delete a post that was gratuitously rude. We should probably have a look again at applications that may be able to do the job for us - they may have got better. We'll have a chat with Techs.
ps arse is definately ok .

spook · 10/09/2004 10:31
