RACIST POSTS ABOUT MEGAN MARKLE

CrazyDuchess · 15/03/2019 21:18

Time and time again this argument on Mumsnet about why you allow racist threads to stand for so long and take little action?

You assured us before that "lessons have been learnt" and all that rubbish but yet again here I am arguing with some other posters and your staff about whether a thread is racist??

I haven't noticed any racist remarks about MeMe o here?! People have pointed out what they dislike about her but no one has mentioned her skin colour. That would not be allowed anyway. I think she has lovely skin but dislike a lot of other things about her. Not racist.

continuallychargingmyphone · 17/03/2019 16:25

Where does the criticism of her stem from cole?

ColeHawlins · 17/03/2019 16:32

Where does the criticism of her stem from cole?

How do you mean? Who is doing the criticising? Or what is their motivation?

I'd think a good wedge of it is racist, (EDL types, Ukippers and so on). Another chunk is Russian bots, we are told, (political/racist?), some from republicans, some from starchy monarchists, and yet more just general shooting the breeze similar to the criticism that Kate Middleton got. And probably some overlap between those groups.

But I can't see that ALL the criticism she gets is automatically racist.

ColeHawlins · 17/03/2019 16:33

People have pointed out what they dislike about her but no one has mentioned her skin colour.

Well the racists that are about are hardly likely to say "I do not like her because of her skin colour", are they? Confused

GucciDay · 17/03/2019 16:37

Stop your apologism. Your sort of comment is actually why racism is allowed to run freely over Mumsnet.'

It isn't 'apologism' Confused

There seems to be the misconception on here that any criticism of mm is racist based.

Duchess of Cambridge or Prince Andrew? No problem, that's fine to say what you think about their public personas. People aren't allowed to comment negatively at all about the Duchess of Sussex. Why is that?

CallaLilli · 17/03/2019 16:40

I haven't noticed any racist remarks about MeMe

Yet giving her that nickname does tend to indicate you think her a bit uppity, a criticism WoC have had to put up with for time immemorial.

Also criticisms like "not an English Rose", "too American", "doesn't get our royal family" may not be classified as racist by some but they're certainly xenophobic.

GucciDay · 17/03/2019 16:47

'I realise there's dog whistle stuff that some of us don't always spot but VladmirsPoutine are you actually saying that ANY & ALL criticism of Meghan Markle is racist?'

That does seem to be the gist. Some posters have decided others are racist as it fits their 'mn is full of racists' agenda.

CrazyDuchess · 17/03/2019 16:48

You seem to thing any negative opinion on Meghan Markle is racist, when that isn't true.

Nope- however there is a distinct difference between criticisms and actual remarks about the Duchess being a black woman that was out and out racist - not need for debate there.

Then the is the covert, undercover and not so subtle mircoagressions ( not only here but in the wider media) that the DOS and many other famous women of colour would not be subjected to if they were white - it's that simple.

My experience is that MNHQ are not quick off the mark with identifying and deleting racist posts - and as you can see MNHQ agree they fucked up? Soooo not sure what your issue is Gucci?

OP posts:
CrazyDuchess · 17/03/2019 16:54

I personally don't care either way for the Duchess or the Royal Family, just not my bag. And that's fine, everyone is entitled to an opinion.

The Duchess or any OF the Royal Family are not above criticism.

This thread is solely about the way MNHQ tackles racists posts.

OP posts:
percheron67 · 17/03/2019 16:55

What is this "Woman of Colour" thing? I am a woman of colour - I am white - meaningless thing to say. Also, if criticism of MM is considered racist when it doesn't mention colour how can it be racist.

continuallychargingmyphone · 17/03/2019 16:56

‘What is this Women of Colour thing?’

‘I’m white’

There you go, there it is.

C8H10N4O2 · 17/03/2019 16:58

I am a woman of colour - I am white

continuallychargingmyphone · 17/03/2019 16:59

Did you roll your eyes too c8? Hmm

GucciDay · 17/03/2019 17:01

'The Duchess or any OF the Royal Family are not above criticism. This thread is solely about the way MNHQ tackles racists posts.'

Yes but as I said any criticism of her is often deemed racist. Are we allowed to say her baby shower was far too ott or is that dog whistle racism? bearing in mind I'd have said the same if any royal did that.

How can we all tackle racism if some define any criticism of her as racist?

CrazyDuchess · 17/03/2019 17:01

We'll just fly past your first comment there Percher Hmm

criticism of MM is considered racist when it doesn't mention colour how can it be racist

And who the hell said that? The comments directly related to her skin colour?

OP posts:
PCohle · 17/03/2019 17:02

I understand the "dog whistle" issue but the idea that MM is somehow above criticism because any negative comment about her is intrinsically racist is ridiculous.

If you have an issue with specific posts then report them or raise your concerns on the thread in question. Starting a thread about a thread seems unhelpful.

CrazyDuchess · 17/03/2019 17:03

Honestly Gucci I don't think you are heading me.

DoS is not above criticism - and I don't care much for her baby shower and blah.

OP posts:
CrazyDuchess · 17/03/2019 17:04

I disagree - MNHQ apologises because they messed up? I think that is exactly what I hoped the thread would achieve.

OP posts:
CrazyDuchess · 17/03/2019 17:07

And also - I define myself as a woman of colour/ a black woman/ a BAME woman - who the hell are you to tell me how I identify myself is meaningless @percheron67 Hmm

OP posts:
ColeHawlins · 17/03/2019 17:09

Honestly Gucci I don't think you are heading me.

TBF, I think it was vlad's post that caused the confusion. I understand what you're saying.

I do worry about missing some dog whistle leanings, but I can spot that @percheron67 probably isn't sincere, for example.

But I'm worried by Vladimir's stance and can't make sense of it even though I'm equally motivated not to accidentally defend something racist because I've missed something.

GucciDay · 17/03/2019 17:10

'DoS is not above criticism - and I don't care much for her baby shower and blah.'

Oh right, that's helpful thanks. So basically you just wanted to tell mnhq what you thought, any queries are only worthy of a 'blah' response?

Maybe email them next time if you don't what any tedious comments that don't fit your agenda?

CrazyDuchess · 17/03/2019 17:13

Seriously what is your problem? I was agreeing with you about the baby shower etc I literally don't care.

And if you had read my post you would have seen I have also emailed MNHQ about this? I was not getting anywhere with the moderators so came on here?

Have I justified my existence enough for you??

Aridane · 17/03/2019 17:14

@CallaLilli - that thread you link is like watching an Islamaphobic car crash in slow motion
