I've just logged into someone else's account, using my own details?

I have no idea how this happened?

I logged in using my usual email address and password, went to TIO and realised I hadn't been on any of the threads in question and the account settings were completely different Confused

Then I realised it was someone else's account? Needless to say I logged straight out. I entered the same details again and now I'm back as me.

For the record, I'm not a name changer and have never heard of the person who I logged in as (see attached pic).

I've just logged into someone else's account, using my own details?

I’ve been logged out on chrome and have managed to log back in. I didn’t experience issues in the first place but agree MNHQ need a grip of this.

Also thanks to the person who posted about have I been pwned - so useful!

LilyMumsnet · 07/02/2019 12:39

@DonDrapersOldFashioned

Oh, just seen the mass logout thing. Mine has been doing it since last night though? Hmm

How many times did it happen last night? If it continues throughout the day, can you report your post to us? We'd be happy to investigate.

hazeyjane · 07/02/2019 12:39

I am now unable to log in on my phone as it says I am a new user, and need to register.....but my details don't work. I was able to log on to PC using my details, but now sure how to get onto mumsnet with phone ....I'm going to have to read a book or talk to dh at this rate!
@MNHQ I missed all this last night but something very strange happened yesterday and I was coming here to report it this morning. I received an email yesterday demanding money basically saying I had been watching Porn and they had remotely captured a video of me doing so, if I did not pay up they would share this all over my social media etc. Obviously it is just a scam/spam BUT they said we know your password and they actually told me my password.

I did used to have that password for a lot of things but I changed it after Jeffreygate as I was on the list of email addresses and passwords, I no longer use that password after it was published but I have no idea how they could know it, only off that list. Could this have anything to do with it? Has someone got hold of that list and is messing with peoples accounts?
Hello,

As DerelictWreck said, this is a common scam/spam email that does the rounds. You can read up about how it works online. We'd recommend changing the password on the email account that it arrived in. Flowers

Just had an email now informing me that my account has been accessed which I already knew last night as another poster had posted as me. Apparently 14 users have been in touch to say they have accessed other people’s accounts but who knows how many have accessed accounts and not reported it?

I literally got mine 15 mins ago so you’ll het one soon I imagine.

Fairenuff · 07/02/2019 12:53

This is why I have a separate email address just for Mumsnet. Shocking lack of security.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 07/02/2019 12:54

LilyMumsnet, it happened twice, I think. When I closed the browser window (I have the ‘keep me logged in’ box ticked, usually).

theharlotletter · 07/02/2019 12:56

I had to log back in just now and use my password. Thank God I'd jotted it down.

WhatTheNightBrings · 07/02/2019 12:56
Shock

So only users who have had someone come forward to say they accessed an account other than their own are being notified?

That is NOT okay.

Everyone needs to be a aware of this breach. People need to know that their information may have been compromised. Everyone. That is not MNs decision to make.

Buteo · 07/02/2019 12:57

I haven’t been able to preview posts using the mobile site for a few days now (Safari on iPhone running 12.1.2).

Checking on pwned my MN password shows as having been seen 3 times before. This will be one I changed to after the last data breach.

Coldandfrosty · 07/02/2019 13:02

This is really worrying. I r

WhatTheNightBrings · 07/02/2019 13:05

@Buteo

I checked too and the password I only use on MN has apparently been pwned 4 times Angry

SomethingOnce · 07/02/2019 13:06

Checking on pwned my MN password shows as having been seen 3 times before.

How do you do that, Buteo?

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 07/02/2019 13:09

My recent MN password which I only used for MN is ok on Pwned, I have just changed it anyway though

Flashinggreen · 07/02/2019 13:10

Just tried to login in on my phone and it doesn’t have the right password remembered but iPad does... right pain to have to reset but I’m assuming there’s a reason

Buteo · 07/02/2019 13:12

SomethingOnce

Go to www.haveibeenpwned.com and select passwords from the menu. You can then put your password in and it will tell you if it's been seen.

SomethingOnce · 07/02/2019 13:18

Cheers, Buteo Smile

Wandaaa · 07/02/2019 13:24

I logged in 5.30pm Tuesday on my phone on internet explorer when I noticed it was the wrong person. Logged out and it was correct when logged back in.

Xenia · 07/02/2019 13:32

Zerof, I get those scam emails too - at least once a week. They sometimes also give my real password (from earlier widescale hacks) by the way - they have all the details from earlier hacks.

If you register with haveibeenpwned.com/ you can check if your email addresses and passwords are out there.

Mine was taken in the LinkedIn hack a while bcak for example and probably others.

The blackmail emails asking for bitcoin are usually best ignored. Mine say they have recorded me on mywebcam and I don't even have a webcam attached to my computer so clearly it is a lie and I don't use the same password now. However it is still pretty nasty and our local police had to send round an email as so many old people locally had been down to the station reporting it.

Toooldtobearsed2 · 07/02/2019 13:43

Well, dont think anyone used me as a mouthpiece but it did prompt me to check on pwned passwords, and the password I have used for MN, and MN only, has been pwned 53 times 😶

I am lazy. I have not changed it since I came here several years ago. It is my own fault, but 53 times???

All of my other passwords (i have 17 others) have not been pwned.

I deleted my account and have started a new one.

C8H10N4O2 · 07/02/2019 13:52

Go to www.haveibeenpwned.com and select passwords from the menu. You can then put your password in and it will tell you if it's been seen.

Did you mean email address rather than password? Please don't ever put a password into a random site.

SomethingOnce · 07/02/2019 13:57

The password having been pwned 53 times may mean someone else has used the same one and been hacked, not necessarily that you have, right? Or have I misunderstood?

Or

Xenia · 07/02/2019 13:59

Yes, as I said above check your email addresses which is what I believe you type in. Never give your passwords out.
