I've just logged into someone else's account, using my own details?

I have no idea how this happened?

I logged in using my usual email address and password, went to TIO and realised I hadn't been on any of the threads in question and the account settings were completely different Confused

Then I realised it was someone else's account? Needless to say I logged straight out. I entered the same details again and now I'm back as me.

For the record, I'm not a name changer and have never heard of the person who I logged in as (see attached pic).

I've just logged into someone else's account, using my own details?

I've also been logged out and had to log in again. Deeply concerned about this guys, this is a serious data breach. Horrified at the idea someone random could log in as me and see all my stuff, what the hell?!

crosspelican · 07/02/2019 11:38

I am fine on my iPhone, but can't log in on my desktop, Chrome. I've put in my email address and gone to the next screen, put in my password and nothing happens.

thislldofornow · 07/02/2019 11:38

I would also like the ability to delete username history. Since it doesn't exist I have deleted my entire account and re-registered. I'd already made sure not to use an email address that contains my name due to mumsnet's appalling security record, but one of my old usernames was potentially identifying.

WhatTheNightBrings · 07/02/2019 11:39

I'm really concerned that users haven't been notified of this breach yet.
If someone accessed my account, they could see my email address, the same email address I use on Twitter. From Twitter, it can be figured out where my children go to school (all LA schools here use Twitter as an official source of information for parents). Given the threats many women have received here from, especially, the feminist boards, I don't want people to know where my kids go to school!

thislldofornow · 07/02/2019 11:41

Another one wanting total assurance that this won't happen again

I think we've got plenty of evidence that they can't make that assurance. The tone of official replies on this thread probably tells you all you need to know!

MakeItAmazing · 07/02/2019 11:43

I once had a message to say I had a PM and I hadn't. They never worked out what had happened. I've just had to log in but I haven't logged outConfused.

Xenia · 07/02/2019 11:49

I was logged out this morning and had to log back in and look up the details but that was not a big issue and probably a safety precaution at the MN end.

EveSaidWhat · 07/02/2019 11:50

I was logged out earlier by mn and couldn't log back in on my tablet or phone but could on a PC so if anyone else in the same boat try a PC, it may work.

Seeingadistance · 07/02/2019 11:51

About an hour ago I noticed that OP's post was no longer highlighted on a thread I was reading. It seems that I was logged out between one page and the next. I've logged back in to my own account ok.

CatherineCawood · 07/02/2019 11:51

The last time a date breach happened (I was under another name) I was still getting grief a year later. Paypal was accessed and in turn my bank account and netflix. Bloody irritating.

StarJumpsandaHalf · 07/02/2019 11:57

For MNHQ
"I am fine on my iPhone, but can't log in on my desktop, Chrome."

Similar here, I stay logged in across three devices. All were automatically logged out as per MNHQ above.

I logged back in with my email and password on Safari via my iphone and ipad, but my laptop with Opera browser wouldn't accept the same information and I've had to change my password.

JessicaJonesJacket · 07/02/2019 11:57

Can MN confirm this was connected to their IT update and not due to hacking?
There are many MRAs/TRAs who would love access to posters email addresses, personal messages, etc.

MakeItAmazing · 07/02/2019 12:01

goodbyestranger - I noticed one of my inbox messages also had the removed at posters request and assumed it was because they'd sent a phone number. Is it a problem for me?

I am aware MNHQ said we don't need to change passwords but tbh I'm not sure I trust them. Would someone who understand tech more than I do let me know if the best thing to do is change my name and\or password. Thank you.

Rachel0Greep · 07/02/2019 12:02

This is very worrying. Shock

user12678356 · 07/02/2019 12:05

Sounds like buffer overflow. They need to get the developers write a patch soon as.

zen1 · 07/02/2019 12:06

Just seen this and wondered why I had been logged out of my account when I usually stay logged in as it’s just me using this device. Very concerning.

LilyMumsnet · 07/02/2019 12:11

@Rememberyourhat

This happened to me once ages ago. I think I tried posting and previewing and it said I didn’t have that user name though.

Hi rememberyourhat,

Can we ask when this happened?

Mummylin · 07/02/2019 12:21

I also had been logged out causing me panic as I couldn't find my password, when I finally found I logged back in ,but I am still me.

Hazards · 07/02/2019 12:23

I was logged out and couldn't get back in. If someone's been me could you let me know!

Contacted MN via email, they told me to cleared cache, new password and I'm back in.

badlydrawnperson · 07/02/2019 12:28

Does it worry anyone else when MNHQ keeps asking for details of when/what happened?

LilyMumsnet · 07/02/2019 12:30

Hi there Zen,

The logout was a security measure that our tech team performed this morning. Flowers

WhatTheNightBrings · 07/02/2019 12:33

^ This is why MNHQ should have notified users of when and why they were doing a mass logout.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 07/02/2019 12:34

Is there any way of identifying which accounts have been accessed illigitemately? Or is that far too complex

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 07/02/2019 12:36

I keep getting logged out too. It has been happening since yesterday evening.

Mobile Version
Safari for iPhone
iOS 12.1.3 (latest update)

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 07/02/2019 12:38

Oh, just seen the mass logout thing. Mine has been doing it since last night though? Hmm
