Can you help us to improve the Mumsnet site?

Across this year we intend to make some improvements to features on Mumsnet talk with the aim of enhancing your experience of using the site. The first of which is to improve the functionality of the 'threads I'm watching' and bookmark features.

You might have used these features, or you may have no idea they even existed, either way we'd love it if you could complete this quick survey.

Any additional comments you want to add to this thread would also be welcome.

Thanks

Make it useable on safari, so there is no lagging or reloading of the page. If a thread is long it can be impossible to post. I am tired of having to change browsers.

Timed edit button- 5 minutes at most.

A reply to post button for easy quoting.

SoupDragon · 08/02/2019 10:35

can't posters disagree vehemently with and castigate people they don't like using written messages currently?

Yes, and it is there with their name attached for all to see.

What is so hard about using words?

ReaganSomerset · 08/02/2019 13:04

It's not hard, just a bit of a Pita to have to copy and paste someone's username to post that I agree with them. And in a long thread I'll often want to register that one or two people have hit the nail on the head as I'm reading down but my clipboard only holds one username to paste IYSWIM? So often the brilliance of other users goes unacknowledged because I tend up copying the username I want to reply to rather than the one/s I agree with. I just think it is would be nice, when people have crafted a well thought-out reply, to have a simple and easy way to acknowledge that.

Definitely not a like button!

I do like the collapse thread to show only OP's posts idea.

I don't care if we have an edit function or not (but do make it time limited) it doesn't matter about typos because everyone makes them and it's usually clear what is meant. Yes there is the odd one where an important word like "not" is missed but it's quickly remedied.

BertieBotts · 08/02/2019 20:12

The @ thing is awful and I wish it had never been added. I have turned the emails off.

EggysMom · 08/02/2019 20:17

A time-bound edit button so I can correct typos.

There are too many boards, and I find the expanding list of forum boards very difficult to manouvre. I end up living in the Active threads rather than looking at particular boards ....

HollowTalk · 08/02/2019 20:25

I’d like a like button. Facebook is t the only site with it so don’t know why people are so against it.

Never used Twitter?

ReaganSomerset · 08/02/2019 20:31

I find the @ thing incredibly useful. Unless people use it I often miss responses to my posts.

SquishyFishy · 08/02/2019 20:33

A quote button would be great so that you don't have to scroll back up threads to see which comment people are replying to

IdaBWells · 08/02/2019 20:40

I would also like an edit button that was only good for a few minutes.

NigellasGuest · 08/02/2019 20:53

No like button, no editing, no quotes

Thanks!

Sparklingbrook · 09/02/2019 09:26

I never use the @ function because I turned it off as soon as it came out,and I have no idea whether the person I am conversing with uses it or not.

So I just bold the name or quote and bold and that always works just fine.

gamerchick · 09/02/2019 09:33

You can turn it off? Mint! That tagging thing is well irritating.

JoyceDivision · 09/02/2019 09:34

Stop putting ads midway through a thread as it is really annoying, there is starting to be more ads than posts. How much revenue is being raked in with this increased advertising space? It's a much less user friendly experience

Go back to the ads just at the bottom of the page.

Sparklingbrook · 09/02/2019 09:34

Yes, please don't ask me how though it must be in settings somewhere. Grin

PersonaNonGarter · 09/02/2019 09:37

Please no quote thing. So difficult to follow pages of quotes. It gives rise to squabbles.

NunoGoncalves · 09/02/2019 09:41

Depends how it's implemented. People already quote people (like I just quoted you) – mumsnet could easily put a button that just copies, pastes and bolds the text for you, to save you having to do it manually. Would save people lots of clicking.

SoupDragon · 09/02/2019 10:17

The problem with the @ thing is when people don't know how it works and use a shortened version of someone's posting name. I had a few emails telling me I'd been tagged as I had a shorter version of someone's name in my arsenal of name changes. I turned off the emails.

WatcherOfTheNight · 09/02/2019 10:37

NOOOOO like/dislike buttons please ,I would rather someone speak to me & tell me why they agree or disagree.
And I agree with pp about the negative potential it may have .

I'd like the app to have the same features as the Mobile site ,pms in particular please!

I'm not bothered one way or the other with quotes as we now have the @ which I do like personally as I tend to miss peoples answers . I suppose it would come in handy on the app though as bold ,italic etc NEVER work .

Yes yes yes to more emojis, I'd like a mallet ,vomit face and a fire extinguisher 🧯
Pretty please

TwitterQueen1 · 09/02/2019 11:00

I'd like a mallet, vomit face and a fire extinguisher ROFL at that Watcher, guessing the sentiments behind them...

WatcherOfTheNight · 09/02/2019 12:45

Ha @TwitterQueen1 Grin
Guilty as charged,I thought about asking for a cats bum too but I don't think they'd allow it .

NunoGoncalves · 09/02/2019 13:38

The @ feature works for the person being tagged. For anyone else casually reading the thread, they then have to go back and find the original post to see what it said in order to understand the reply! Why not just have a quote button next to each post that when pressed, fills the reply box with:

@[username of original poster]
for bold - copy text from post - another to end bold.

Makes life much simpler and you can still delete part of the text if you only wanted to include one part in the quote.
