Can you help us to improve the Mumsnet site?

Across this year we intend to make some improvements to features on Mumsnet talk with the aim of enhancing your experience of using the site. The first of which is to improve the functionality of the 'threads I'm watching' and bookmark features.

You might have used these features, or you may have no idea they even existed, either way we'd love it if you could complete this quick survey.

Any additional comments you want to add to this thread would also be welcome.

Thanks

Well, fair enough. I've not noticed any tendency towards cliquiness, but I'll take your word for it. Presumably the loyal subjects of these royals can still attack dissenters and agree with the royals under the current system though?

ReaganSomerset · 07/02/2019 13:46

I asked which forum because I'd imagine that those with far fewer members would be more open to that kind of problem.

Laska2Meryls · 07/02/2019 13:49

A 5 minute edit button on posts so at least you could alter any typos. PLEASE!!

Its so annoying looking like an illiterate dork just because one types too fast or has autocorrect .. (and doesn't notice until too late )

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE (I am shouting Please.. )

TwitterQueen1 · 07/02/2019 13:52

Not sure about this one but I'll throw it into the mix anyway....

A character count on OPs? As soon as I see "this is going to be a long post" I move on.. likewise when you get the whole history of a dysfunctional relationship (whether it's parents, friends, husbands, wives etc).

I don't need a 10 year history of who said what and when and how someone has always been mean and here are some examples...

Prepared to be told other people love them though...

badlydrawnperson · 07/02/2019 13:59

Some security would be nice.

AmazingGrace16 · 07/02/2019 14:02

A chance to collapse a thread and only see posts from the OP so you don't have to rtft to search for updates.
Please for the app too!!!!

Time40 · 07/02/2019 19:40

Also a 'compress' function, so you only see the OP's posts and no-one else's..... or maybe that could be extended to any individual's posts on one thread

God, yes. That would be brilliant.

AbsolutelyTwattedGwen · 07/02/2019 20:59

I’d like a way to hide topics from the mobile site please.

And yeah, maybe some security like Badly said.

Kwackerly · 07/02/2019 21:06

Massively reduce all the topics - and spilt - eg into Mumsnet fun and Mumsnet bloody serious, that would put an end to all the 'lighthearted' nonsense in thread titles and would help fuck the trolls off serious threads where nonsense isn't appreciated. Give us glittery signatures so I can have a giant gif of ds revolving head a la nethuns... No? Ok but it would be nice to personalise posts a bit more now the sites so huge. I think a vote up/down button would be good.

JaneJeffer · 07/02/2019 22:48

I would like to be notified on the app when I get a PM and be able to access PMs without having to go to desktop. Last week someone was trying to get in touch with me and I didn't realise for ages because I wasn't on the specific thread at the time.

Bluntness100 · 07/02/2019 22:55

I'd so love it if I could have a way to just see the ops posts in order , and not have to scroll through, and no the suggested fix doesn't work,

I also don't see the issue with a like button, maybe it would stop all the pile ons, but ultimately it does no harm.

I don't think you will but clearly giving people the ability to delete their posts would be disastrous as it would make threads illegible.

OccasionalKite · 07/02/2019 23:14

Definitely not a Like button. It is such an easy system for gaming it.

JaneJeffer · 07/02/2019 23:25

A like button would be a disaster for sure. There are people who have grudges against others as evidenced by a thread asking if anyone disliked any specific poster.

BibbityBobbityEars · 08/02/2019 07:21

Edit and delete own posts function

Something near your name that shows how long you’ve been a member (rather than had that name) to cut down on the troll hunting. I’ve been here 13 years and change name every time there’s a data breach or I feel I’ve possibly compromised my anonymity by posting something identifying.

chordFire · 08/02/2019 07:44

I like @TwitterQueen1 suggestion - I sometimes get weirdly dizzy when I've had to scroll through tonnes of replies just to read OPs.

Can you also make it easier/more obvious to hide topics please?

Topseyt · 08/02/2019 08:16

EDIT BUTTON. EDIT BUTTON. EDIT BUTTON.

Not bothered about it being time limited, but we seriously need an EDIT BUTTON. It is perfectly reasonable to want to correct your own typos, or perhaps to add in something that you originally forgot.

No like or dislike buttons. I've seen them used to bully posters on other sites and don't doubt that it would happen here too.

More and better emojis. The available ones are basic and very dated now.

ReaganSomerset · 08/02/2019 08:20

A like button would be a disaster for sure. There are people who have grudges against others as evidenced by a thread asking if anyone disliked any specific poster

Surely that's only an issue if there is also a dislike button?

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 08/02/2019 08:24

Sometimes I just want to read OP updates without having to scroll through comments of hundreds of other posters. I know that OPs posts are highlighted but I would like a function whereby you select only posts from the OP in that thread.

TwitterQueen1 · 08/02/2019 08:31

IMHO You can't have an Edit button (except maybe a 5 minute window to edit original posts for typos) - it would destroy the whole integrity of the thread.
Given how argumentative threads often get you'd get the "But you said this before..." only to find out that particular nugget had been edited out, thereby making a nonsense of those requests.
And if lots of people were to ask for the same bit of info that the OP then edits into the original post those subsequent posts would not make sense and would be redundant.

SoMuchToBits · 08/02/2019 08:37

I would like an increase in the number of photos you can post per day, so that next time I have a large Playmobil event it doesn't take me 5 days to post all the photos!

JaneJeffer · 08/02/2019 09:36

Surely that's only an issue if there is also a dislike button?
It could be used to like a post disagreeing with someone else just because they have a problem with them.

sashh · 08/02/2019 10:07

A way to answer a particular post/poster so you don't have to copy and paste.

ReaganSomerset · 08/02/2019 10:07

I have never experienced that on MN. Quite disappointed it exists tbh. I'd have thought anyone being bullied would change their username, very easy to do on MN, but I suppose for some it's part of their identity?

Also, can't posters disagree vehemently with and castigate people they don't like using written messages currently? Are there mumsnetters so hated that they'd get 50+ people liking every statement that disagrees with them? Or would it only be a few? It's a nightmare of intrigue I didn't know existed.

Topseyt · 08/02/2019 10:23

OK Twitter username, I kind of take your point on a short time limit. But as many posts here show, it is one of the things many people want. We all make mistakes and typos. Surely most of us would like to have the chance to correct them?

Sparklingbrook · 08/02/2019 10:31

Be better if there weren't so many people desperate to correct everyone's grammar and spelling, then posters wouldn't feel the need to do a second post with a correction.
But TBF it takes seconds anyway.
