Can you help us to improve the Mumsnet site?

Across this year we intend to make some improvements to features on Mumsnet talk with the aim of enhancing your experience of using the site. The first of which is to improve the functionality of the 'threads I'm watching' and bookmark features.

You might have used these features, or you may have no idea they even existed, either way we'd love it if you could complete this quick survey.

Any additional comments you want to add to this thread would also be welcome.

Thanks

Also a 'compress' function, so you only see the OP's posts and no-one else's..... or maybe that could be extended to any individual's posts on one thread..

SeriouslyAngryRN · 06/02/2019 19:52

Is 'threads I'm watching' the same as 'threads I'm on'?

It depends on your settings. Under customise, there's the option to "watch" threads you start, threads you post on, both, or none.

DramaAlpaca · 06/02/2019 23:06

Done the survey.

A definite No to a like button & quote function from me.

mikado1 · 06/02/2019 23:11

I would love for the 'Threads I'm on' on the app to go to where I last was on the thread, instead of having to scroll and for the op to be highlighted throughout the thread, as I think it is on the mobile site. I would like the 'Threads I'm on' to stick around as long as the 'watching' threads, which I can view for a much longer time.

PortiaCastis · 06/02/2019 23:14

Don't need a like button this isn't that other site, I'd like an edit button as im always inclined to cock a post up Blush

IKillEveryBloodyThreadIPostOn · 06/02/2019 23:21

A way to automatically refresh active convos on the app. Without having to scroll back to the very top and pull it down to refresh. Unless there already us a way to do this. If not, it would be most helpful!

JaneJeffer · 06/02/2019 23:41

No like button.
No quote thingy if it's like the DS thing where there's pages of people quoting each other. It's terrible. Copy and paste works fine.
A better search facility that takes you to the post not just the thread would be good.

Sparklingbrook · 06/02/2019 23:47

I don't want a Like Button or an edit function.

Get rid of the @ function. I and many others have it switched off as we don't want endless emails. Bit pointless if not everyone uses it.

gemmaxyz · 06/02/2019 23:57

Option to delete our own posts individually.

People post a lot of personal info on here to help others but a few months or years later it's done its job.

It's unlikely people will want to delete posts on practical things like cleaning and decorating anyway, and those will always remain a useful resource.

But I think that in general people's privacy choices should take precedent over preserving threads, without them having to go through gatekeeping of requesting deletion and seeing if it meets staff standards.

If you make it so that posters can do it one post at a time, but you have to go through staff to have everything nuked, that would be a good compromise.

halfwitpicker · 06/02/2019 23:59

Get rid of that shit in thread titles where someone's tried to use quotation marks. It does my head in.

^

Yes.

And please don't add a like button : it's fun in principle but I think it'd ruin your business model Grin

BeekyChitch · 07/02/2019 00:03

A button on the mobile app that will take you to where you last posted on a thread instead of back to the start.

Or is that already a thing and I haven't seen it??

AornisHades · 07/02/2019 00:06

You know the quick view thing you do for Web chats where you can view the posts by the OP? I'd like that for ordinary threads but particularly AIBU so people can read the drip feed or OP admitting they're U on page 2 and stop the 'Cancel the cheque' stuff.

marcopront · 07/02/2019 03:38

Is there an easy way to see the original post on the iPhone app when you are at another point in the thread?

marcopront · 07/02/2019 03:39

*A button on the mobile app that will take you to where you last posted on a thread instead of back to the start.

Yes the bookmark feature.

Polestar50 · 07/02/2019 05:14

IKillEveryBloodyThreadIPostOn
If you are using the app on a mobile, you can refresh by clicking the 'reverse thread' arrows to the top right of the screen twice. Not sure if this works on a computer or iPad though.

Polestar50 · 07/02/2019 05:20

Just realised my advice above wasn't quite accurate (this is an excellent example of when a timed edit function would be great!)

To refresh a thread, I click the reverse thread arrows once. This refreshes the thread and puts the last post at the top. I then read it 'upwards'. It is a bit of a clunky workaround but does mean you can refresh and continue to read without having to scroll back down through all the posts.

cordeliavorkosigan · 07/02/2019 05:40

When a thread has been deleted, take it out of the top 5 most active threads list at the top right. How has this not happened yet? Surely it has driven people crazy for years by now.
Yes yes yes to jumping to my last post on a thread I'm on, and to collapse options to see op's comments without scrolling through many pages.

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 07/02/2019 06:17

I use the app. It would be good if you could get your messages on it, rather than having to log in from safari.

JaesseJexaMaipru · 07/02/2019 07:00

I filled in the survey yesterday but another idea has popped into my head since.

If I click on a thread which I haven't previously bookmarked anywhere on, but I have posted on, please could the site treat my most recent post as a bookmark and automatically take me to that so I don't have to spend ages looking for it?

TheFatberg · 07/02/2019 07:02

Auto delete anyone who is place marking.

Boom76 · 07/02/2019 07:12

I’d like a like button. Facebook is t the only site with it so don’t know why people are so against it.
Anyway, doesn’t matter what changes you do, once they’re implemented, people will come on to site stuff and moan, threaten to flounce etc, as people on here hate change. It’s bizarre

Sparklingbrook · 07/02/2019 07:18

Thread change and there's unnecessary stuff.

I still dont know why 'Most Active' got renamed 'Trending'. Confused

Sparklingbrook · 07/02/2019 07:18

There's change not thread.

enterparentone · 07/02/2019 07:25

Make the search better with options to sort by date. Currently on laptop when I search there seems to be no logic to the order of threads that come up.

Ability to edit posts would be good.

littlecabbage · 07/02/2019 07:35

I’ll like an option to just pull up the OP and any subsequent posts they make. On long threads, especially ones that people just make an inane comment on to bookmark their place, it can be quite hard to keep track of what the original poster has gone on to say. I know they can be highlighted but it still means scrolling through pages sometimes.

I agree.
