Black areas on mobile

Anyone else get this? If I'm browsing the site on my phone if I've come back to my browser from using another app the thread will be all fuzzy and have random black blocks all through it before I refresh.

Simple fix but still annoying. :s

Mine is currently ok again

AnyaaaaaaaaaaaarghMumsnet · 29/10/2018 16:53

Hi again folks,

The tech team have been trying to replicate this issue this week and we were unable to do this trying various devices. Our ads team have also contacted Google and Google could not replicate the problem either and have said the issue is not with our site or the ads.

We have noticed the issue is only appearing on Samsung, Sony, Huawei and Google Android phones specifically so we think this issue is likely caused by Chrome conflicting with other apps.

If you could all have a look here and see if this helps, it might get to the bottom of it

Again, sorry this has taken so long, but we hope this might help.

Not wishing to be cynical, AnyaMumsnet, but this only happens in Mumsnet. My screen has black sections, that scroll and jump within the thread. The thread jumps and repeats. I touch one area on a thread and another is selected. I touch one thread on active conversations, and another thread loads.

I don't have a single problem on any other site, at all. I've even tried using the default web browser supplied with the phone, and the same problem occurs in MN using the mobile site. Never any other site, and never using the desktop site.

This is not malware, and it's not a Chrome conflict. This is a problem with the mobile site that you haven't yet been able to isolate.

DeadBod · 29/10/2018 17:29

I agree with Lougle as in this is the only site that I'm having this problem with.

Topseyt · 29/10/2018 17:29

I have it on nothing else either. ONLY the MN mobile site. Absolutely nowhere else. It doesn't happen on the desktop site, which I am using on my tablet at the momentn(a Lenovo, which also uses Android)

It can't be a chrome conflict or surely it would be everywhere I go?

I have a fair number of apps, including calendar and internet banking. I have no problems using any of them, so see no need to be uninstalling and reinstalling them.

It has been better over the last two or three days, but not completely absent.

It only happens on mumsnet for me too.

troodiedoo · 29/10/2018 18:06

Agree with previous few posts.

SleepingInYourFlowerbed · 29/10/2018 20:18

Agree with Lougle and HunkyDory69. The only thing that will happen if this isn't fixed is me not using Mumsnet. I'm not uninstalling anything else

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 29/10/2018 20:36

Same. Only happens on mumsnet for me too. Seemed to stop for a few days then it was back today.

I have done nothing with any of my apps in the period it stopped doing it so I'm not about to start uninstalling everything now when I doubt it's anything to do with the apps.

Cuttingthegrass · 30/10/2018 07:33

I can’t use my iPad / safari. Only MN site affected. It’s the ads that cause it to freeze.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 30/10/2018 10:34

Just now. I refuse to believe this isn't a problem with the mobile site when it's literally the only site it happens on.

Hi Again,

We are working really hard to figure this out and we need some help from you so we can start to rule out possible causes, can you please open the below link in your mobile browser, please ensure it opens the actual website and not the app, please go to another app/website and revisit the below link and let us know if you see the black boxes?

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/sponsored_discussions/3401957-What-are-your-top-tips-for-keeping-your-DC-entertained-during-dinner-Share-with-Frankie-Benny-s-300-voucher-to-be-won

Thanks in advance.

Lougle · 30/10/2018 17:40

Both of those were fine for me AngieMumsnet.

SleepingInYourFlowerbed · 30/10/2018 18:49

No black boxes there

Topseyt · 30/10/2018 18:57

They did seem to almost go. They are now back.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 30/10/2018 19:32

That link is fine for me.

Is it something to do with ads. Because a distinct difference between say this page and the one you linked is the linked page ads remain the same (all the ads are for Frankie and bennys) whereas on the rest of the site the ads change. In the time its taken me to write this post the top banner ad has changed 5 times.

Guess it's back to ad blocker for me.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 30/10/2018 19:34

As if on cue... on threads I'm on.

On your test thread, no problem. On main mumsnet (and about 1/20 visits to diply) then as per picture attached

Black areas on mobile
Topseyt · 31/10/2018 00:45

Sorry. No black boxes on the link. But on the rest of the site (mobile) they are back with a vengeance tonight.

ProfYaffle · 31/10/2018 08:33

I've started using an adblocker brower on android after the black boxes made the mobile site unusable this morning. Seems to be working so far.

AngieMumsnet · 31/10/2018 10:46

Hi Again,

Just keeping you updated, we have started to eliminate certain partners based on the links and information you have all been sending, as we are unable to replicate this issue can I please request you to let us know if the issue is still persisting or it has gone?
Many Thanks

Lougle · 31/10/2018 11:02

I haven't had it at all since 29/10.

TallulahBetty · 31/10/2018 14:26

Still happening here. Only on MN and only on my phone.
