Top bar advertising

MN, PLEASE fix this advertising bar at the top of the computer screen.

It is so large, that I can't actually click on any of the MN links that are at the top of the page. (eg, active, I'm on, etc).

Right now, on Site Stuff, I can't even click 'Site Stuff' to get other threads in this section. It's hidden by the ad, which is NOT scrolling up and away the way I've seen others do. It's just sitting there. The ONLY threads I can get onto are the active ones on the right hand side of the screen, and only the ones lower down the list as the top ones are hidden by the Ad. (Experian and Marks and Spencers, are the two so far....)

You did this before, we all complained, you apologised and said it shouldn't have been loaded on as you were testing something new. I really hope this was a mistake, because it is IMPOSSIBLE to navigate the site.

still happening for me- on firefox. It's driving me mad. I spent ages rebooting my computer last night thinking it was me.

Laiste · 24/10/2017 07:14

Bloody hell it's still there Angry

FaFoutis · 24/10/2017 07:28

It is awful. half the screen obscured most of the time. I'm off until it goes away.

TheMaddHugger · 24/10/2017 08:08

Sorry. It's Tuesday evening here. I've had this problem all day, so closed page and net surfed other sites [not MN]

I just came back on and it's still a problem. I use chrome on my laptop. It's says add to the whitelist... whatever that is

I cannot screen shot

ginjin · 24/10/2017 08:10

I'm having a slightly different issue in that the bottom ad before the comment box isn't aligned properly, so is messing up how to view the entire page. Using safari on iPhone 5s

Same happening here still today - it opens up, covering the OP post etc, and then shrinks back . Really annoying . I don't use an ad blocker, but may have to start .
Macbook and Chrome

Laiste · 24/10/2017 08:27

madhugger i've learned that the whitelist is a list of sites that you can put on any advert blockers. It will then 'allow' ads to appear on sites on that list.

What you're having is the same as me - it's the big blank space where the ad would have been asking you to let ads in. For me it covers the top third of the page and slows my computer down while it's spinny thing spins.

Others have not got the ad blocker and are having the ad itself blocking the page.

Laiste · 24/10/2017 08:28

Firefox here btw.

Laiste · 24/10/2017 08:34

May i add this link again. At the mo a lovely poster is trying to show how to block the big white bar.

PhilODox · 24/10/2017 08:40

This is just going to increase the number of MNers that install and use adblockers. These adverts eat up all my data allowance on my phone- so I'll just stop visiting MN.

DressedCrab · 24/10/2017 08:51

Never bothered with adbolock before but will now as they slow it down so much. Recommendations?

Tinycitrus · 24/10/2017 08:57

How do I ad block?

Laiste · 24/10/2017 09:13

adblockplus.org/

This is the one i use. I'm on firefox, laptop.

I've also got uBlock

SecretSmellies · 24/10/2017 09:21

thanks for posting that Laiste.

TwitterQueen1 · 24/10/2017 09:24

It's still happening! I don't want to go to effing Andover College, no matter what their pass rate is. And my DCs are all at uni.

PhilODox · 24/10/2017 09:43

Yes- I am unlikely to visit glasswells, even if it is the biggest furnishings store in East Anglia... because I am hundreds of miles from East Anglia!

Lweji · 24/10/2017 10:39

Fucking floating large adds. Just saying.

Don't your IT team test these things before deploying them?

They deserve to spend 1000 hours MNetting to feel the pain of what they created.

Laiste · 24/10/2017 10:51

There's threads about this everywhere. I wish we could round everyone up! Are MN still listening?

squoosh · 24/10/2017 10:52

I've never used ad block before but I certainly feel tempted to do so now. Those massive ads are obnoxious.

inmydressinggown · 24/10/2017 10:55

I've got a massive ad popping up and covering the top of threads in Talk every time I refresh or visit a new page. Its incredibly frustrating and really, really off putting.

NewDaddie · 24/10/2017 10:58

It's still happening! I give up..

Ceto · 24/10/2017 11:21

It's improved slightly in that at least the massive banner seems to lift up rather than staying put indefinitely. But it's still annoying. I've never had an ad block before, I'm thinking seriously of getting one now.

Sallystyle · 24/10/2017 11:35

It's a pain in the arse. I use adblocker but it isn't blocking that annoying bar floating half way down pages.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 24/10/2017 11:35

It's just ridiculous. Come on, MN, sort this out!
