Top bar advertising

MN, PLEASE fix this advertising bar at the top of the computer screen.

It is so large, that I can't actually click on any of the MN links that are at the top of the page. (eg, active, I'm on, etc).

Right now, on Site Stuff, I can't even click 'Site Stuff' to get other threads in this section. It's hidden by the ad, which is NOT scrolling up and away the way I've seen others do. It's just sitting there. The ONLY threads I can get onto are the active ones on the right hand side of the screen, and only the ones lower down the list as the top ones are hidden by the Ad. (Experian and Marks and Spencers, are the two so far....)

You did this before, we all complained, you apologised and said it shouldn't have been loaded on as you were testing something new. I really hope this was a mistake, because it is IMPOSSIBLE to navigate the site.

You're welcome Nan!
I wish we didn't have to do this. A reasonable number of adverts that didn't obstruct normal reading would be perfectly acceptable.

ZaZathecat · 13/11/2017 13:35

This ad blocks the top of my screen (I'm on a PC) every time I try to look at anything. It is SOOOOO annoying! Yes it shrinks back after a few seconds but it is making me uncharacteristically sweary!

tistheseason2bjolly · 18/11/2017 16:55

The advert bar keeps covering half of my screen Angry

Melony6 · 18/11/2017 20:19

Sod this - I'm off to Reddit

ZaZathecat · 19/11/2017 15:50

Every time I so much as page-forward the bloody great ad covers half the screen and I seethe while waiting for it to disappear.

RandomDreams · 20/11/2017 12:53

Operators of a social website with a vast readership do not just bung in major changes to its presentation and wait to see how much the users complain, and then take months to sort the resulting problems. That is amateurish beyond belief.

Agreed.

Mumsnet isn't run by some teenager out of his parents garage (if it was it'd probably be better TBH!)

Joking aside, how can it take months to implement changes to the change that Mumsnet made in the first place? This seems to be run by amateurs.

blueskydreams · 20/11/2017 21:44

how can it take months to implement changes
Presume that Mumsnet have signed a contract which means they can't make certain changes for a certain amount of time
Until that time is up they are just fobbing us off

Lambside · 22/11/2017 18:15

Not sure this is the same problem but for the last few days I've had a timer circle thingy constantly at the top of the page even when the ad is there.
Also sometimes the ad takes ages to load and so there are two circling timey things.

so much better this evening without the big white drop down bits.

(so much better that I have not been kicked off the site and am now up a bit later than intended [oops] )

JustineMumsnet · 24/11/2017 09:30

Morning
As you may have noticed, we've switched back to the old version of ads without the fixed header at the top of the page as it wasn't working well for some. Thanks for all the feedback - we'll continue to try to find a workable balance between advertiser demands and usability. Thanks for all the feedback.

ZaZathecat · 24/11/2017 10:03

That's much better, thanks!

clownfaces · 24/11/2017 15:56

Hooray!! Thanks MN. So much better
🤡🤡

BlackeyedSusan · 24/11/2017 18:05

Tell the advertisers I actually look at the ads now rather than click off the page while they load.
