Top bar advertising

MN, PLEASE fix this advertising bar at the top of the computer screen.

It is so large, that I can't actually click on any of the MN links that are at the top of the page. (eg, active, I'm on, etc).

Right now, on Site Stuff, I can't even click 'Site Stuff' to get other threads in this section. It's hidden by the ad, which is NOT scrolling up and away the way I've seen others do. It's just sitting there. The ONLY threads I can get onto are the active ones on the right hand side of the screen, and only the ones lower down the list as the top ones are hidden by the Ad. (Experian and Marks and Spencers, are the two so far....)

You did this before, we all complained, you apologised and said it shouldn't have been loaded on as you were testing something new. I really hope this was a mistake, because it is IMPOSSIBLE to navigate the site.

Still getting it here

AaaaaaaarrghmyGMumsnet · 23/10/2017 16:03

Hmm, thanks for letting us know, sorry to hear you're still having problems.

Please could you post screenshots, and also confirm which browser you're on if you can still see the large ad covering the links to Active and TIO etc? Thanks!

monkeywithacowface · 23/10/2017 16:05

Am using google chrome

Thanks monkeywithacowface, will send that to tech Flowers

notnowthough · 23/10/2017 16:10

YES - please fix this - it's annoying.

AaaaaaaarrghmyGMumsnet · 23/10/2017 16:22

monkeywithacowface Does the ad go away after a few seconds, or is it 'stuck' there?

Hi tiggytape, thanks for posting and clarifying. Any chance you could post a screenshot of it covering the links? Also, are you on Chrome?

TalkinBoutWhat · 23/10/2017 16:50

I use Microsoft Edge. The ad is shrinking back now. Thank you.

Just to clarify, it shrinks back, but it takes its sweet time about it.....

I'm on the mobile version of Safari now and I use ad block. I now have an annoying white line, where the bottom of an ad might be, permanently across the phone screen.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 23/10/2017 16:58

Here's mine - still causing problems! I'm on my laptop, using Chrome.

Hi MyBrilliantDisguise - if you scroll up can you see the links to Active/TIO etc? And does the ad "shrink back" after a few secs?

ToadTheVampireThreadKiller · 23/10/2017 17:10

Rather than re-post mine, I am adding this

ToadTheVampireThreadKiller · 23/10/2017 17:14

I am using Chrome, on a laptop. It is slowing loading even with the adblocker. It just gives a huge white space with the message about the whitelist so am only slightly better off than having a half page John Lewis ad.

I think I will wait until it is fixed and come back later.

AaaaaaaarrghmyGMumsnet · 23/10/2017 17:28

Hi Toad - can you post us a screenshot of the 'white space' with the message please? Does it stay 'stuck' on the page, or shrink back after five seconds or so?

yawning801 · 23/10/2017 17:39

Half the time I get a blank space, the size of the massive advert, which goes away after a few seconds. And the other half, I get something about whitelisting MN! I haven't changed anything in my AdBlocker or Wifi.

BlackeyedSusan · 23/10/2017 17:41

I can see an inch of screen between the bloody purple thing at the bottom and the white thing at the top. not acceptable

I am certainly not going to be buying anything from the brands that are advertising as it is pissing me off and I am not going to be coming to mumsnet as much as it is pissing me off so the advertisers will get one fewer viewer...

MyBrilliantDisguise · 23/10/2017 17:52

Yes, the ad shrinks back after a few (irritating) seconds, but it always covers the links to Active etc. I have to scroll up to see the top of the page.

PencilsInSpace · 23/10/2017 18:43

I just timed mine. 9 seconds for the whitelist message to disappear, 14 seconds for the bar to shrink back.

Missingthesea · 23/10/2017 18:54

I'm getting it too, on google on a laptop.

brasty · 23/10/2017 19:17

I don't go on MN on my phone for this reason.

clownfaces · 23/10/2017 19:27

I'm also getting it on my laptop, using safari. It does shrink back after some seconds but it's every time I click on a new page or thread.
It is driving me crazy so might have to give mn a miss tonight.

clownfaces · 23/10/2017 19:31

And this Hmm

Top bar advertising
DrMadelineMaxwell · 23/10/2017 19:31

I'm getting it.

It shrinks back. And quite quickly, but that's not the point. Either an advertiser pays for an advert space and gets makes their advert fit that space or they don't.

Don't give us ads that expand and intrude before then deigning to shrink back, especially not with every page refresh or reload.

Not the first time we've had ads that intrude and open/enlarge etc at will. Really puts me off the site while they are there. And has a complete effect on my re:wanting their product than I'm sure they want an ad to instill.
