The next time you send an email about a poster to that poster by mistake. Probably best not to refer to your users as 'these people'

Agree Cote.

I do hope Mumsnet address concerns raised rather than just deleting.

Circumlocutor · 23/08/2017 23:24

It would be foolish for them to delete this thread. They know it would just lead to be more threads with more fevered posts.

Shitalopram · 23/08/2017 23:24

haven't read the full thread yet but in the absence of upvoting am instead doing my first ever "placemark"

Shitalopram · 23/08/2017 23:27

I wish I could take back all the many years of advice, good writing and, frankly, unpaid work that I've done for this bloody site.

Happytobefree17 · 23/08/2017 23:28

Jesus Maryz, did Justine really write that? Shock

(Under other usernames. Not that anyone would look.)

Why though?

It must have served just as much purpose for you personally, as it did for anyone else?

No-one posts here under obligation or sufferance.

BackieJerkhart · 23/08/2017 23:35

MNHQ is really getting into the spirit of 2017 aren't they? Downward spiral, denial denial denial. should we be expecting a parting of the ways in MNtowers? It sounds about right for how things are going.

This reminds me of the time I sent a not very complimentary text about my dad to him instead of my sister. Luckily he had to forgive me...

Worra, that's a reasonable assumption, but no, and I can't really explain it here.

hamsterloverlover · 23/08/2017 23:39

op - ucm, is that you?

SumThucker · 23/08/2017 23:45

Pretty shitty.

Circumlocutor · 23/08/2017 23:45

Aesop's fable of the Golden Goose is coming to mind. MN is in danger of killing the 'thing' that made MN so popular in the first place.

The golden egg. I expect Gerald Ratner knows all about these.

inabizzlefam · 24/08/2017 00:00

Sadly MN has gone down the same path as eBay and PayPal.... nobody is a valid person anymore, just a user who can very easily be rubbed out if they don't tow the line, follow the rules and fit in.

DirtyMartiniWithAnOlive · 24/08/2017 00:08

For those who want to take the conversation further without PM'd being spied on and being talked about like dirt by MNHQ

www.reddit.com/r/MNTrolls/comments/6vjvaj/so_ive_had_an_email_from_mn_obviously_not_meant/?st=J6PMOAJG&sh=37f9b33c

Hurry though, no doubt our glorious leaders will return and delete it soon.

Carolinesbeanies · 24/08/2017 00:08

"MNHQ is really getting into the spirit of 2017 aren't they? Downward spiral, denial denial denial. should we be expecting a parting of the ways in MNtowers? It sounds about right for how things are going."

Slight derail, but whats been noticeable to me this last couple of months, is the 'mumsnet team' emailing me rubbish. Its not just any rubbish, it pops up in my subject line, 'pimp my vag' or 'spiders wiped its willy' or 'say goodbye to your vagina'. If you have a split screen on your email, youre then delighted to read a selection of all the 'c**t' type comments etc. with a request, 'come join the discussion'.

I dont post on those types of threads. Im not interested in those types of threads. Why does MN think its even appropriate to be sending unsolicited mail like that? I have to put up with those flashing up on my laptop or wherever, at any moment. Id be hauled infront of my boss if anyone saw them.

But that apart, theres clearly been a change in tone as to what the mumsnet team think will 'attract' me in to 'discuss'.

Anyway, back to the OP, who isnt an OP anymore. Utterly agree theres a huge discrepancy about 'guidelines', but clearly the more outrageous the poster, the higher the traffic. When the business model is a traffic based business model, perhaps more bans will happen for troll hunting (aka reporting) than trolling, but in the least I can only expect my mailbox to be spammed by even worse.

LineysRun · 24/08/2017 00:09

Oh yes, Ratner. The man who infamously slagged off his product and by doing so insulted and rattled the customers. That was interesting.

endehors · 24/08/2017 00:10

Dirty martini Grin. There have been a few new members tonight on Reddit.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 24/08/2017 00:12

YY to the Golden Goose & Gerald Ratner.

Cautionary tales indeed...
