Scrolling issues

For the last few days/ weeks when reading thread via talk the page has been so slow to scroll. Some of the long threads 200/300 plus posts can take ages. It's not happening on other sites or on the shorter threads. Very irritating.

And now I have background ads, which alter the size of the page and thus the text becomes too small to read. See my pics which I hope will ive you an idea.

I know you have to have ads, but when they make the site nusable it all becomes a bit pointless, doesn t it?

I couldn't see to make that correction! Having posted, the background ad has gone and I can read again! It's a miracle!!!! Here's GinGin

Jux I raised with MNHQ the issue of the side bar ads making the text too small to read. Didn't get any reasonable response back. I use an ipad mini - text is ridiculously tiny when the side ads are there.

I've had this for a few weeks too, as mentioned on another thread I've installed an ad blocker and speedy mumsnet is back!! It was getting really bad, thought it was my new iPad that was crap.

I cannot scroll on some posts ,its almost like the thread locks, cant scroll up or down, oddly only on the ones that ive bookmarked. Seems to be ok on other posts but has only been happening over the last two days

Yes! Scrolling still awful. Ipad mini, dafari desktop.

Nice to see that these problems are being swiftly dealt with and MNHQ are keeping us informed....Hmm

Morning folks! Sorry about the delay on this. As far as we can see we are waiting to hear back from Google about this but we'll ask Tech to contact them on Monday and ask for an update. Apologies again that this is taking so long to sort. We will get there!

It's getting worse again.

I have spent nearly 10 mins trying to get to the posting box on this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2969962-Friends-expecting-me-to-look-after-kids-6-week-holidays?trending=1 and when I'd laboriously typed in my reply it didn't post. I tapped on Post 3 or 4 times, during which time the page enlarged, and then it just stuck. No scrolling at all, no response to anything, it wouldn't pinch down to fit the screen, it wouldn't post, it wouldn't move.

I hit the Home button on the iPad and then opened Safari again. It opened on that screen, still enormous, still unresponsive - but at least my post was still in the box waiting. Hit Home again, waited 20 secs, opened Safari - all fine and normal on the thread, except my post was lost in the aether. I gave up.

Thanks for flagging this again.

Really sorry you're still having issues.

We're not getting complaints about this at the moment but do need to say that threads with lots of posts will take a lot longer to load and the recommended post per page view is 25 (bet you're fed up with hearing that one!)

That being said, tech has been making some changes to the site with hopes of speeding these things up!

Well, brilliant work, Tech! At the moment, even incredibly long threads which are picture heavy (eg. CFN, Woolly Hugs) are scrolling smoothly; they do the normal thing of showing a blank screen for a very short time while the next bit loads, but that's fine, and when I say 'very short' it really is less than half a second.

The problem with having fewer posts per page is that it adds to the total time you waste trying to read a thread and makes searching for text ridiculous.

Anyway, the scrolling issue is sorted for me, so thank you very much indeed Ginx1000000 and trebles all round

Sorry to say that it's back to how it was when it didn't work! The scrolling has gone to pot again. Same as before. Sad

Yep I've had it since it was first flagged. It's definitely not a 'long thread' issue - I've spent a happy afternoon reading very long threads on 4G on my phone and they scroll super fast just like they always did. The iPad churns along though and that's on much faster wireless (no 4G on iPad - wireless is definitely fast - we're a family of IT workers and gamers!).

Mn keeps jumping on my iPad, it's driving me crazy. I go to click on a thread, it jumps and I end up clicking something totally different.
