Scrolling issues

For the last few days/ weeks when reading thread via talk the page has been so slow to scroll. Some of the long threads 200/300 plus posts can take ages. It's not happening on other sites or on the shorter threads. Very irritating.

OK now there ar more than 25 posts, but there were already issues with this page quite a few posts back, when it was only a tiny little page.

Isthiscorrect · 17/05/2017 14:33

Katherine mumsnet, this wasn't a problem until very recently, so I'm not sure that 25 per page is either truthful or the solution. The flashing adverts don't help as they slow the site down. I get the need for adverts but flashing take longer to load.
Very disappointed after all this time 😧😢

Same here.

I have ALWAYS had 1000 threads and (apart from the other time where the ads slowed the site down), it's always worked perfectly.

I'm not changing to 25 threads. Why should I have to? Plus waiting for pages to load is a pain anyway.

The site is almost unusable AGAIN. (And I still refuse to click on ads anyway).

Exactly.

OvO · 17/05/2017 19:55

I'm having the same problem.

Love that the solution is to get us to do something that doesn't suit us at all. Fuck actually sorting it.

The whole site's been running as if powered by a hamster wading through treacle for a while.

Jux · 17/05/2017 21:15

And how exactly does switching to 25 posts per page help with the scrolling problems on Active and TIO?

It doesn't.

I don't usually get pissed off here as I'm very aware that we are so lucky that we don't have to pay to use this site, and ads weren't too intrusive if you had ad blockers etc. But I don't like being fobbed off with info which is clearly an inadequate and lazy work around. So I'm pissed off now.

Catbot · 17/05/2017 23:39

Terrible tonight, making pages unreadable and giving me the rage! It's not normally a big issue on my iPad but today it is. I agree the ads seem to slow things down massively.

Catbot · 17/05/2017 23:47

I'll never find out what Hiphop's neighbours are paying £500 a month for!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 17/05/2017 23:53

I've always had mine set to 25 posts per page and I'm having issues. It wasn't a problem until last week.

clicking on a thread from TIO automatically loads it as 1 page and they are almost impossible to scroll through.

Jux · 17/05/2017 23:58

Does anyone else find that on the non-scrolling threads the 'post message' button doesn't work either?

I have to cope my message, then reload the thread, then paste my reply back into the box and click 'post message' again. If I'm lucky, it'll work the first time after reloading, but sometimes I've had to go through the rigmarole of reloading and pasting more than once. As that may mean I have to scroll through the non-scrolling thread each time, I have had to spend up to 15 minutes trying to get a reply posted. So obviously, I don't often bother.

SilverBirchWithout · 18/05/2017 00:28

So am I correct in my understanding of MN's Katherine's latest post?

Which is Tech are saying that they no longer offer support iPad and Safari users of the site.... and have given up trying to find a solution?

If so I'm off.

SilverBirchWithout · 18/05/2017 00:34

Can anyone advice how you change to the 25 posts option?

SilverBirchWithout · 18/05/2017 00:38

Found it.

Well I've changed to 25 posts and it is still problematic when scrolling!

PatricianOfAnkhMorpork · 18/05/2017 05:44

I'm having this problem too, started late last week I think. I'm getting failure to load pages as well as scrolling issues.

Works fine using Chrome on a laptop. Fucked using the desktop site on iOS Safari on the iPad.

MNHQ - One of the adverts has a fucked script again would be my bet.

ApplePizza · 18/05/2017 08:04

Me: my car jugglers when I go into fifth gear
Mumsnet Garage: well there's your problem then! We advise you to stay in gears 1-4, then you won't have a problem anymore
Me: Hmm

ApplePizza · 18/05/2017 08:05

Judders, not jugglers!

WicksEnd · 18/05/2017 08:17

Yes jux I'm having the same problem posting too.
I feel fobbed off. It wasn't a problem before, it's a problem even on 25 posts per page, which is a ridiculous way to read a forum, and takes forever to load the next page anyway.

MissWilmottsGhost · 18/05/2017 08:19

I'm having the same problem with my Windows phone so its not just Safari. The page judders when scrolling, It has been giving me a headache and forcing me to give up MN for more productive pastimes. Grrrr.

I can't believe the MN response is to use 25 posts per page. I have been using whole thread view for nearly as long as I have been using MN and that is more than 7 years now.

If my old Wildfire could handle whole threads in 2011 and this Microsoft one could handle them 3 weeks ago then the phone is not the problem.

KatherineMumsnet · 18/05/2017 10:27

Hi everyone,

Thanks again for getting back to us. Tech have just informed us that they've finally been able to replicate this! They're now digging into it and we'll update you once we have more info. Thanks, all, for your patience.

TrueColors · 21/05/2017 22:44

Any update on this please? Appreciate it's been the weekend. :)

LornaMumsnet · 22/05/2017 09:36

Hi TrueColors

Not yet but we will update as soon as we know more!

Isthiscorrect · 22/05/2017 18:45

Can you pay tech overtime with gin and cake please? This really is a desperate issue. I'd love to read the trending topics. Rogering and the £500. Absolutely no idea what it's about as it won't even load 🙄

OP posts:
PenguinOfDoom · 22/05/2017 21:08

It's marginally better for me tonight, but most threads are still a bit sticky.

SilverBirchWithout · 22/05/2017 21:15

For me (on 25 per page) it's actually worse than ever.

SealSong · 22/05/2017 21:42

Wow I thought my ipad was becoming knacked, glad it's not only me who has been experiencing this.
And yes, was totally fine with 1000 per page until recently, so please don't suggest that 25 per page is the answer. Just please fix the problem!
(it's probably something to do with the ads - it usually is when there is a tech problem)
