Scrolling issues

For the last few days/ weeks when reading thread via talk the page has been so slow to scroll. Some of the long threads 200/300 plus posts can take ages. It's not happening on other sites or on the shorter threads. Very irritating.

I take that back. It was briefly better but it's now as bad as it was before.

It was a bit better briefly a few days ago, but it's back to being as bad as ever.

Very glad you are no longer suggesting the non-fix of 25per page. That was a silly idea!

I had to resort to the app, and guess what?!? That's not bloody working either.
The ads are slowing the site down. It might not slow it down for tech but on an iPad that's a few years old, it can't cope.
I do not have the problem on ANY other site apart from MN.
It's tired and needs an over haul. Like me.

I thought my (Windows) phone was broken - my view is 25 posts per page and it's been awful to use.

When you're typing a post and need to reference an earlier post, even if it's only about 5 short posts up, it can take nearly a minute to scroll up to it. Seriously, nearly a minute !!!! That means that is it's a fast moving thread you just don't bother. It takes too long and is too painful, so I simply don't bother.

What sort of site makes it so hard for members to post?

I belong to a lot of online forums about all sorts of things - tech, finances, food, Apple, games, yada yada yada - not one of them do I pay for and not one of them works so badly (and this is my favourite site, so pleeeeeeease sort it out!). They all have adverts,mbut none so disruptive; how do they manage that?

It's not my iPad at fault, nor Wicksends' either. They work fine everywhere else.

Thanks so much for keeping us updated.

Is anybody still having this problem today on their iPad? We can't see it anymore now.

We know it's a huge ask and quite a big inconvenience, but if you're still seeing it, would you consider videoing it in action and emailing it over to [email protected]?

Just tried it on my iPad, Safari desktop site. Its still shockingly bad and that's attached to a 100gbit internet connection (uncontended).

will video if I can figure out how!

I thought isthiscorrect had done it.

I'm not sure I can do it as my phone is so old. I can video things but it can't play them back. There's absolutely no hope of sending it from the phone, it can't cope with the change of email address I had to do years ago, and I can't persuade it that I'm not who it thinks I am. I have never been able to get more than simple texts sent from it.

It's Android so doesn't talk to iPad easily - if at all - so I can't send it from here, even if I can persuade the phone it actually can do it. It generally just sits around and whimpers!

Sorry different time zone so I've only just seen the email address. Tried to send it but the video is too big. I have 4 altogether. This thread, a long thread, another forum site with 6000plus posts and fb. Can't email any sorry.
Suggestions welcome.

I filmed it on my phone last night, but couldn't upload it to my laptop as my laptop only has USB 3 and my phone is USB 2, that's the response I got anyway. presumably, that means I have to get a new phone.....

Tech has suggested as the files can be quite large that you could upload them to google drive or dropbox and share the link with us.

Umm don't use either of those. Will need to investigate how to do that. FYI the site hasn't improved. Took me ages to get to the end of this thread.

HI! this issue is still extant; I have sent you a large (21.6MB apparently) file despite Thunderbird warning me not to (why?).

Anyway, it's gone. Took ages. Reminded me of the old days before PCs existed, trying to use whatever it was we had to use back then. When I was young and beautiful and spring was every day.........

I expect you want some gin now, don't you?

Not that much of a pain as I quite like fiddling with tech, but have to find enough time when dh/dd aren't going to rush in wanting something. Glad it's helpful.

I have sloe gin. The one from Lidl is a lot nicer than the expensive one from Tesco.... [sloes]
