Hey MNHQ. Would it be possible to have a discussion about how SN issues/threads are handled on the main boards.

I know you are fire fighting a bit and I'm not trying to stir things up.

I just think that there are endless threads that require you to get involved and try to (for the sake of a better word) mediate between pissed of posters with no real experience of SN/disability and pissed off member of the SN/disability community.

I think you try really really hard to be fair and even handed. It's an understandable response but I have growing doubts about it.
There have been half a dozen threads recently where posters I recognise as living with SN/disability issues deal with a continuous stream of posts from any random who pops up on a thread making the same stupid, ill informed or frankly goady post.
It's like swimming through a tidal wave of shit.
Then, as posters get increasingly exasperated by each arriving poster saying 'well I'm not putting my buggy away if my baby is asleep' or 'why can't I use the disabled toilet if it's empty' or 'but people with SN can be violent. I know of stabbing someone and attacks all the time' they get rude and the thread descends into eurrgh.

I'm still reading constant posts where anyone affected by disability is berated if they are angry, the message being 'be nice, be grateful or we don't have to be fair'

It seems to me that the status quo of 'fairness' is simply unfair.
Posters already dealing with immense difficulty shouldn't be forced to defend themselves against every person who turns up and says unpleasant things under the umbrella of debate. You said a long time ago it was not our responsibility to educate but the reality is that, with no palpable support from you guys, we are endlessly having to educate.

I am not pretending to have the answer but is it possible to contemplate methods by which you could actually say to posters saying 'if someone in a wheelchair can't use their space because I'm not putting my buggy away' that their comments are wrong and not in the spirit of the site?

You link to the This Is My Child campaign but the posters who are the problem won't care and won't read it.

I don't know - I just wonder if you could think about this.
Sometimes there are not two sides to a debate because only one side is directly affected, exhausted, distressed and having their lives and their children's lives made harder.

Rather glad to have spent fathers day looking after lots of family and drinking way more than I should whilst barbequing in the rain.

I hope that no one is too hurt by todays latest round in the mumsnet ring.

I've skim read the thread since last posting and someone mentions the feeling of relief with others understanding the situation. This is what I've gained the most here. The strength of not being alone.

We are not alone. We have each other and even in my slightly relaxed through alcohol state, that is so valuable. To be able to identify with each others situations. Whilst each is unique, we can understand what we have is not quite your anticipated life scenario.

Wine, Cake and Flowers all round. (I've just had a forced change of tablets and this one has a drop down with icons on, i have disproportionate satisfaction in their use).

Samcro · 19/06/2016 22:57

i have yet again had to report a gf on the WC thread
why do people do it?

Akire · 19/06/2016 23:03

HQ should keep posting their the we support the law phrase. it's so amazing given its only public transport you can use trains need notice, taxi often much more expense then give you the oh we have to send a mini bus it's the only thing with a ramp £££. Cars not really even on mobility unless you have spare £15k up front pay for all extras. just let people on the bus!

I live in London I will never get bus again to tramatic with nasty drivers, over crowding and more important least 2 pushchairs on each bus (I live near shopping centre) so always full before gets to me. Id rather get hypothermia and go in rain than put up with the Agro!

Samcro · 19/06/2016 23:05

my dd can't use a taxi as he wheelchair and seating system wouldn't fit. we have a mobility WAV......but it annoys me that I can't ever take her on the bus.

Akire · 19/06/2016 23:07

How much did you pay for WAV if can be nosey? My 15k was my rough estimate! But I would need WAV and need electric ramp and either drive from chair or spin driving seat around and drive. The only ones in neat mobility book we all for wheelchair as passenger. I only get 20 care hours a week so not much use if only carer could drive.

Samcro · 19/06/2016 23:08

will pm you

Akire · 19/06/2016 23:10

Thanks, tempted to go for assessment but if it's out of reach don't want to depress myself, plus in 6y have to pay loads again when used all DLA so no chance to save a penny.

Samcro · 20/06/2016 10:44

So still nothing done on the bus thread
Yet. Again being told to have compassion for the mum
Why do mn hq allow this to continue

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 20/06/2016 11:18

Benefits thread in aibu with (not op) "most people who claim disability/carers are faking". Apparently a repeat offender so lets see if they get banned

MiffleTheIntrovert · 20/06/2016 11:19

I've reported that, will be interesting to see if the two strikes and you're out will actually be applied, I've also yet to see a deletion message specifying disablism as MNHQ said they would try and do.

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 20/06/2016 11:23

I've reported to

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 20/06/2016 11:23

*too

BishopBrennansArse · 20/06/2016 11:29

I've reported too mnhq. Check your spam filter as I know all my reports STILL go there.

hazeyjane · 20/06/2016 11:36

I know it wouldn't happen, and I know lots of people are very hurt by the disabilist, goady, ignorant bullshit comments, so the fairest thing is to delete them, but I actually would like them all to stay.

The thread started by Maryz is full to the brim of stuff that we all have to put up with. Sometimes I wonder if people don't realise just how all pervasive these attitudes are. Maybe instead of deleting MNHQ could highlight the disabilist comments in red, with a nice big

WARNING: DISABILIST BULLSHIT FOLLOWS

yy to this ^

Akire · 20/06/2016 12:14

Oh yes love it. People only see their needs you may have already had to battle it to town over people not respecting dropped curbs had 2-3 buses with people refusing move. Staff be unhelpful or can't get into shop you would like then have someone fall in your lap or make stupid comment. That's just bog standard today. Wow betide someone sonewhere makes any allowances as it might put them out slightly once in blue moon.

Akire · 20/06/2016 12:31

Someone is citing rape now as reason why pushchair may take prority!! seen it bloody all people may not have chosen to have baby where as someone who ends up in wheelchair after sports accident "chose it". Just when you think you scraped the barrel

BishopBrennansArse · 20/06/2016 12:32

Yes I know. Countered with differences in how people become disabled...

Akire · 20/06/2016 12:33

Have reported rape one. What next badges ? My baby was accident so I get prority over you fallen off a ladder because it was your fault!

Akire · 20/06/2016 13:47

MNHQ letting the rape one stand as poster had previously said wheelchair should take priority. If you read the thread you don't note who says what if they say it 9/10 and then say what about people who have a baby not my choice I don't really see how that's different. You still read it as entitled disablest post don't you. if you looking for arguments to support your own selfish ideas you taje this one on as supporting view that's it's ok.

BishopBrennansArse · 20/06/2016 13:53

That poster is deliberately being obtuse and inflammatory.

Akire · 20/06/2016 14:00

It's first time been crave enough try report disablest comment- seems like I can't even trust my judgment on that

BishopBrennansArse · 20/06/2016 14:01

You can.
It's a failure to adhere to what was posted back there ^^

Samcro · 20/06/2016 14:12

Wow so mn hq posted on t bus thread and left up all the disablist posts
Well done mn hq

BishopBrennansArse · 20/06/2016 17:31

Because they're a long poster and at some point have said they believe in wheelchair priority.

So because of that it doesn't matter what else they post, however offensive.
