Hello all,
A little bit of advance notice that we are planning to roll out our new look (as per the current home page) to the talk pages tomorrow morning (tech willing). It's mostly cosmetic stuff plus a few very slight modifications to improve functionality - a nip here, a change of hue there. Anyway we hope you like it and do, of course, let us know if there's anything you object to.
Best,
Mumsnet Towers

how about getting rid of the talk box on the left and then you can get another ad in there, then after the two ads extend the talk back to normal?

wannaBeOnTopOfTheChristmasTree · 15/12/2006 12:32

it took me 10 minutes to get here

don't care about colours/fonts just as long as you never decide to put the talk category into flash, so I'll leave the criticism of thos who have greater knowledge, but scroll bars are BAD for my screen reader. it might just be that it takes some getting used to as the layout's changed and it threw me totally when I logged in, but I shall return with any further feedback

Posey · 15/12/2006 13:45

Ah now this is an improvement. Could get used to it now.

PrincessPeaHead · 15/12/2006 13:51

I like the new bar across the top, I think that is rather good. Few suggestions:

I think you need to space out the links at the top a bit - the way they are, combined with the small font size, makes them very confusing.

Also the font is too small in the active conversations list-of-thread-titles format. Very difficult to scan.

Oh and can you also put some space between the preview message and post message buttons please?

Thanks!

JustineMumsnet · 15/12/2006 13:57

Ok so...

We recognise that the stuff across the top ie Active conversations links could be better and we are going to have another look at colours to see if we can keep them as clear as this old version but a bit less clashing. Are there any other major gripes/problems still?

lose the black bullet points, and the black outlines.

PrincessPeaHead · 15/12/2006 13:59

justine, you are deliberately ignoring the shouts of "font size UP! font size UP!" from the assembled masses.

I think we have the right to know why? remember we are all ageing and need big letters to read

JustineMumsnet · 15/12/2006 14:00

Thanks PPH.

Oh and why the box around add your message here? or if you want it, fine, but shouldn't the preview and post message buttons be in it? They look a bit out on a limb otherwise.

OK I'll shut up now

JustineMumsnet · 15/12/2006 14:02

sorry PPH - not ignoring you just cross posting! Yes we'll try upping the font a bit - we are conscious that not everyone's on a big screen is all and these scroll down on smaller screens and take up the whole screen but agreed they are not clear as they are now, so we will do something.

without wanting to lick arse

it's a lot better now

i almost like it

JustineMumsnet · 15/12/2006 14:04

Hey, nothing wrong with licking a bit of arse - particularly when you've spent all morning kicking it...

OP posts:
BrandyTutter · 15/12/2006 14:06

aah you expected nothing less i'm sure

RTKangaSANTAMummy · 15/12/2006 14:06

but if you have a small screen then you can alter the text size on the computer

but mine is set to largest atm so can't make it any bigger

BrandyTutter · 15/12/2006 14:07

ooh not too much bigger

would be a bit janet and john

uwila · 15/12/2006 14:07

Can I suggest you have a test plan next time. Take the new site, put it on a test server, get say 25 MNers to go have a look and generate feedback. Amend the site, and then roll it out to the masses...

Agree with Peahead on the spaces. Font size doesn't bother me, but hey maybe she is older than I am ... just kidding I don't think she is older.

PLEASE don't intoduce color that doesn't fllow a logic of site functionality. So, say blue means hypelink, then don't put think that aren't links in blue, and don't put links in colors other than blue. I think introducing color is very risky. It might take away from the functionality.

Anyone else notice that threads I'm watching are running the other way now?

Latest post used to be at the top, now it's at the bottom....

BrandyTutter · 15/12/2006 14:11

could i add a teeeeeny weeeeeeny thing

(that will appeal to the pedants)

can you amend it so that it reads e.g. '28 posts' after a thread rather than '28 Posts' with a capital 'p'

not the biggest of deals, i know...

BettySpaghetti · 15/12/2006 14:14

Am I losing my marbles or has this all changed again from this morning?

I came on here 9am ish and then went out for a few hours and have come back to find (I think?)that its different again? Wee there drop-down menus this morning or did I imagine it?

uwila · 15/12/2006 14:16

It has changed (but this does not mean that you are not losing your marbles)

uwila · 15/12/2006 14:18

Could we do something for Suejonez (who is becoming a mum by adopting a gorgeous little boy in Kazakhstan as we type). We need a "waving finger" emoticon.

BettySpaghetti · 15/12/2006 14:20

uwila -do I know you in RL as you may be right on the marble front?

NbgSparklyYellowFeathers · 15/12/2006 14:21

I dont like it either. Sorry.
Its too busy and I may sound a bit dramatic but its hurting my eyes!
