In the interest of restoring harmony, do you think it's time to tidy up the political threads?

As a rule I generally don't care where people choose to post.

But since Chat and AIBU are riddled with political threads that tend to start the mother of all bun fights, does anyone think HQ should move them to the Politics topic now?

This way, if people still want to post on them they can, but peace and harmony might be restored to the rest of MN?

It's doing a lot of people's heads in. Even some of the posters on those threads are probably sick of getting drawn into them, but it's hard not to when there's so much goading going on.

Buts sunny, did you have people jumping in yelling "it's democracy, get over it, you whinging leftie!" every time someone expressed concerns about the future, or calling people heartless bastards for voting them in?

Sparklingbrook · 09/05/2015 16:19

Walking on eggshells all the time and not just about politics. that's how I feel.

meditrina · 09/05/2015 16:20

The levels of hostility and insult are unpleasant and worrying at the moment.

I was on some threads yesterday, as results were unfolding, and have looked at a few today but am just sick of the number of threads that are just duplicates and sick of insults replacing debate.

No, it wasn't like this last time around.

But what stays on, goes from, or is moved about the site is what MNHQ decides. If they want it like this, rather than reining it in a bit, then that's we'll see.

Sparklingbrook · 09/05/2015 16:22

It's not a good time for any newbies casting their eyes around and deciding whether MN is for them.

How is it over on NM I wonder?

HoneyDragon · 09/05/2015 16:26

I've just realised MN have put my thread in discussions of the day....they must be desperate bless them Grin

magimedi · 09/05/2015 16:26

I haven't looked at NM but someone said that the discussion was far more reasonable than on here.

AuntieStella · 09/05/2015 16:27

I don't know my way round NetMums, and presumably am missing something because I found only one thread over there.

GeorgeYeatsAutomaticWriter · 09/05/2015 16:28

I always liked your posts HoneyDragon (I'm a recent NCer). Sorry to hear you don't feel welcome any more.

Sparklingbrook · 09/05/2015 16:29

Yes, I have never been very good at looking at NetMums, just because i am not sure where to look. Maybe they have set up an Election topic and are using it?

TheTravellingLemon · 09/05/2015 16:30

Yes please Worra. I also think MNHQ have been strangely silent through this whole thing. This has not been a nice place to be the last few days. At least sweep them all up and stick 'em in one place. I am one of the ones that gets sucked in and then wishes I hadn't.

The bun fights I've seen on here in no way reflect my real life conversations. I have worked in politics for 15 years with very passionate people of all types and affiliations and I have never experienced such aggression and spite.

I can't understand why new threads are popping up even now, I understood yesterday may have been the day.

I would understand if they were different, but they are all basically the same bloody thread.

magimedi · 09/05/2015 16:32

Have just had a look & they have a dedicated Election 2015 topic with about 60 different threads on it. But I haven't got time to read any of them.

Sparklingbrook · 09/05/2015 16:32

YY Lemon, I quickly glance the title and think it's the same question asked a different way.

vindscreenviper · 09/05/2015 16:34

The Playmobil Election thread was nice and civilised, (except the bit when St Cuthbert was mugged by a gang of vikings in front of Parliament).

Sparklingbrook · 09/05/2015 16:34

Michael didn't win though vind. Sad

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 09/05/2015 16:35

But any time there is a major event MN is full of it. It's my go to place to see what everyone thinks.

And the General Election is a huge event, especially when the result takes everyone by surprise.

There has been a horrible lot of name calling and ridiculing from all sides on the recent threads since the election, I agree, but MNHQ should tidy them up as they go along.

I don't want them sidelined into a politics section. I'm not incredibly into politics, but have been interested in the threads over the last few days.

It'll naturally stop.

vindscreenviper · 09/05/2015 16:36

The electorate just didn't trust him Sparkling, they thought there was something a bit 'plastic' about him.

Sparklingbrook · 09/05/2015 16:37

But when Through?

It's a shame that Kate couldn't have had the baby today instead of last Saturday, that would have been good.

hopefully normality will be resumed soon. Whatever that was.

Sparklingbrook · 09/05/2015 16:38

Grin vind. I was very upset and may have to start a thread about it.

TakeMeUpTheNorthMountain · 09/05/2015 16:39

I agree with Worrall. .

I've a passing interest in the election but as someone who doesn't live in the UK, like many other people on this site, I've no interest in millions of threads about this. Can't read the board properly, can't hide fast enough. .put them together in another forum. If people really want to debate, they will find them.

RainbowFlutterby · 09/05/2015 16:39

I've seen a lot of the threads with insults being hurled around.
There is no discussion, no debate.
The Tory voters are accused of being evil personified, the Labour voters are accused of sour grapes. even when each side does try to put their point across rationally they get jump on.

I honestly think that there is no point in any of those threads remaining.

Perfectlypurple · 09/05/2015 16:39

Yes yes yes. I hid the election threads, simply because there were so many of the same thing. I counted over 23 on active! and because they were all bun fighty and I won't discuss how I voted and why with strangers on the Internet and end up getting wound up about personal attacks.

Viviennemary · 09/05/2015 16:42

Well it's been less than 48 hours since the results so I don't see the harm in letting it run on for a bit longer. I know people are getting sick of it. But I agree most of the threads don't reflect real life. I know a few socialists (champagne ones mostly) and they don't reflect the people on here. I suppose it's worse since the opinion polls were saying Ed plus Nicola would get rid of theTories. So that must be awful for people who didn't want Cameron back.

Pagwatch · 09/05/2015 16:42

God , please tidy it up. It's awful.

vindscreenviper · 09/05/2015 16:44

Well if you must then start it in Politics FGS Sparkling

I'm sure we'll be back to unreasonable bridezillas bf-ing their PFBs while blocking driveways/gatecrashing parties/headbutting their MILs soon enough.

Did you miss the speed camera troll? Mildly diverting.

Sparklingbrook · 09/05/2015 16:45

Another speed camera one? Shock

No i missed that. although I have AIBU hidden and I am guessing it was in there.
