In the interest of restoring harmony, do you think it's time to tidy up the political threads?

As a rule I generally don't care where people choose to post.

But since Chat and AIBU are riddled with political threads that tend to start the mother of all bun fights, does anyone think HQ should move them to the Politics topic now?

This way, if people still want to post on them they can, but peace and harmony might be restored to the rest of MN?

It's doing a lot of people's heads in. Even some of the posters on those threads are probably sick of getting drawn into them, but it's hard not to when there's so much goading going on.

Hi there,

Just wanted to drop in to say we have seen this and will look into what to do - but in the meantime, please do report anything at all you see that breaches our Talk guidelines, and keep on hiding threads that you don't want to see and that are getting in your way.

Hopefully things will calm down soon... [optimistic face]

Hi all,

Thanks for the thread and we do hear you.
It's been busy here behind the report button, thanks all for alerting us to the GFers, please keep 'em coming.

MN has always been a self-policing forum in the sense that MNetters report and we will take a look. We do not sit and refresh active looking for trouble, we rely on all of you to spot knobs GFers and report. As for political threads, we are and have been moving them and also zapping threads that have purely been started to deliberately inflamed.

We know we sound like a stuck record but we need the reports from all of you and threads like this so we can hear your thoughts.

As others have said, we can't stop political talk, allowing conversation to flow is one of the things that makes MN unique. However, we do draw the line at nasty personal attacks, gfers constantly on the wind-up and threads that are just beyond the pale. Please, please do report.

This week we have moved several threads into politics and we will continue to do so. We'll gladly listen to any other suggestions that you think may help.
