Scottish Referendum debate - watch with Mumsnet

So tonight sees the first TV debate of the Scottish Referendum with First Minister and key advocate of the pro- yes campaign, Alex Salmond and Alistair Darling, leader of the pro-UK Better Together campaign coming together for a head to head debate for the first time.

You can watch live from 8pm on STV and if you're south of the border can tune in via the STV player.

Fancy watching along with us? What are you hoping to see from tonight's debate? What are your thoughts on the campaigns so far?

If you've decided which way to vote, why? And if not, what will help you decide?

Do feel free to share these, and any more thoughts you have

It turns into Scotland v England!!!!

prettybird · 05/08/2014 20:34

I agree Statistically - that was a cheap shot.

However, I'm still waiting to hear why we are Better Together. Being bigger is not an argument - there are many, many successful countries that are smaller than or the same size as us (many of whom don't have the resources that Scotland is blessed with).

Numanoid · 05/08/2014 20:35

Oh dear STV, might be because of the amount of people trying to watch it. :( They're usually very good.
The one threat that did make me chuckle was an independent Scotland not getting the BBC... that's a plus for me!

StatisticallyChallenged · 05/08/2014 20:36

Answer the damned question man, this is really important

Oops I posted twice, sorry!

squoosh · 05/08/2014 20:37

Yes, what is Option B!

WildThong · 05/08/2014 20:38

"Just answer the fucking question" Grin well said lady

Crutchlow35 · 05/08/2014 20:38

I wish there was no audience. They are distracting.

weatherall · 05/08/2014 20:39

It's quite a noisy audience isn't it?

StatisticallyChallenged · 05/08/2014 20:40

Far too may cheap shots. This isn't what we need Angry

weatherall · 05/08/2014 20:41

Darling is doing better than I had expected but his arguments are still straw clutching.

Olddear · 05/08/2014 20:42

Wee eck can't answer the important questions....... Who knew?

weatherall · 05/08/2014 20:42

France doesn't have it's own currency.

It's obviously bit an independent country. Hmm

StatisticallyChallenged · 05/08/2014 20:44

France is part of what is essentially a currency union. There's a big difference between than and the Panama approach.

DiaryOfAWimpyMum · 05/08/2014 20:46

Its turning into a squabble.

prettybird · 05/08/2014 20:46

Plan B is presumably that we continue to use the pound as it is a freely traded currency - even if we have a Pound "Stirling" Wink that maintains parity with the £ Sterling. Not sure why he can't just say that.

weatherall · 05/08/2014 20:49

Either there will be a currency union, sterlingisation or a new currency. ALL of these options are better than the doomsday better together are promising.

As long as your wages cover your bills with enough left over for a decent lifestyle who cares what the note looks like?

Crutchlow35 · 05/08/2014 20:52

I'd have thought Salmond would have come up with something better than what side of the road we'd drive on. Bloody waste of time.

Olddear · 05/08/2014 20:53

Alistair looks cheesed off. No wonder!! Pandas, outer space!!!????? Can't get a proper debate out of this man. Norway!!! Surprised it took him so long to mention it!!!!

Letthemtalk · 05/08/2014 20:53

Alec Salmond is coming across as an arrogant smug git. Can't believe I'm actually siding with Darling!

GlaikitFizzog · 05/08/2014 20:54

I'm not sure my blood pressure can take much more of this.

Crutchlow35 · 05/08/2014 20:54

Id have thought salmond would have come up with something better than what side of the road we'd drive on. Waste of bloody time.

StatisticallyChallenged · 05/08/2014 20:57

Argh my Internet won't work! Taking clearly sarcastic comments out of context, Ffs. Stop wasting time and have a grown up discussion about proper issues. Pathetic
