So tonight sees the first TV debate of the Scottish Referendum with First Minister and key advocate of the pro- yes campaign, Alex Salmond and Alistair Darling, leader of the pro-UK Better Together campaign coming together for a head to head debate for the first time.

You can watch live from 8pm on STV and if you're south of the border can tune in via the STV player.

Fancy watching along with us? What are you hoping to see from tonight's debate? What are your thoughts on the campaigns so far?

If you've decided which way to vote, why? And if not, what will help you decide?

Do feel free to share these, and any more thoughts you have

Alex Salmond won't let alistair darling speak!!! Some things aren't as black and white as to be able to say yes or no. He's an eejit.....

WildThong · 05/08/2014 21:01

Ponsonby should make sure both sides get equal time. Salmond could talk the hind legs off a donkey even if it is a loada shit

Numanoid · 05/08/2014 21:03

Come on Alex, you had the advantage before the blimmin' thing began... don't lose track!

weatherall · 05/08/2014 21:03

How many 'do you agree' s were there?

Is everyone else having mn issues?

Numanoid · 05/08/2014 21:21

I think Darling is being childish too. "I didn't vote form him!" Aha....ha... nope. Stop contradicting yourself, Al. At least try. You've already said a currency union would be "desirable". Don't backtrack.

Numanoid · 05/08/2014 21:21

Statistically Yes! Thought it was just me!

Sleepyfergus · 05/08/2014 21:24

Undecided voter here, although veering to no. After watching is debacle, I'm firmly no now. Alex Salmond is a joke of a politician.

squoosh · 05/08/2014 21:26

Independence or not, I'll eat my hat if Scottish universities aren't charging fees in ten years time.

Numanoid · 05/08/2014 21:27

Sleepy Don't let Salmond be the deciding factor. Please read Yes Scotland site and FB pages for more info on the Yes vote, and information from both sides, for a balanced decision.
Salmond is NOT the Yes campaign. It's about showing Westminster that we aren't a small, pathetic little nation incapable of governing ourselves without them helping us. It's the other way round - the UK needs Scotland more.
Don't vote No because of one debate. :)

DiaryOfAWimpyMum · 05/08/2014 21:31

Yes, Im having MN issues!!

Its like a sign.

Olddear · 05/08/2014 21:35

Yes, issues with MN too.....I think Alistair Darling is right! I said upthread, they always talk about we get the governments we didn't vote for, I didn't vote Labour and still got Tony Blair. I didn't vote SNP and I've got Alex and his sidekick Nicola!!!

StatisticallyChallenged · 05/08/2014 21:40

It does scare me how many people don't understand how state pension works...

StatisticallyChallenged · 05/08/2014 21:41

There's a difference between saying it would be desirable and saying we would be allowed one though. I think it would be the most sensible option but I doubt it would happen sadly.

Darling has made a few cheap shots, I reckon salmond has been worse

Now posting on phone...

Sorry about the tech issues, it's an ongoing problem and we are working on a fix.

Numanoid · 05/08/2014 21:43

Regardless of the performance, Darling and Bitter Together will never sit right with me. There's a lot of underhand tactics going on here, such as BT texting their "interpretations" of the debate to the press room.

StatisticallyChallenged · 05/08/2014 21:44

Don't know about the press room but they were both doing it on twitter.

LadyCordelieFlyte - you probably just thought it was freezing because you kept hearing the same thing over and over again Wink

weatherall · 05/08/2014 21:45

Yes I couldn't post either.

Yes isn't about salmond.

Kids born after 2016 might not even recognise the name!

Yes is a very broad campaign. It isn't a political party.

Numanoid · 05/08/2014 21:47

StatisticallyChallenged It was reported on The Telegraph that they were, they published exerts. Although Telegraph is very biased too.

weatherall Flowers YES!! Grin

Well that was an amusing diversion but I don't think too many people will be swayed by that.

Crutchlow35 · 05/08/2014 21:48

Loading of mn is driving me crackers tonight. Did that young girl just ask why the government are spending money on pensions and not Gaelic language?

Sleepyfergus · 05/08/2014 21:49

I'm not basing my vote purely on tonight. Believe me, Ive read a lot and endured lots of opinions. I wanted tonight to solidify my own thoughts and simply put, the Yes campaign does not have the answers. Alex Salmond is a twat mind you and doesn't help that he's fronting it all, not making the best use of this debate and acting like a petulant school boy.

Not saying Alistair Darling is all that, but I felt tonight, he had the answers and challenged Salmond on real and v important issues.
