The Mumsnet Summer Loom Band Challenge - £200 of Hobbycraft vouchers up for grabs

Cabin fever setting in when the school holidays have barely begun? Wondering how on earth you're going to keep the DC entertained for six (gulp) whole weeks? Introducing...the Mumsnet Summer Loom Band Challenge.

For anyone who has been living under a rock for the last few months doesn't know what loom-banding is, here's a quick guide.

Like those of you who saw it, we at MNHQ were most impressed with the loom band dress that recently sold for more than £170,000 on eBay, and it got us wondering what loom brilliance Mumsnetters' offspring were capable of.

Post pictures of your DC's best creations below, and our favourite (loom band gin bottle anyone?) will win a £100 Hobbycraft voucher, with two £50 vouchers available for runners-up.

The competition is open until midnight on Sunday 10 August.

My two love loom bands! They're not in the same league as some of those wonderful knitted creations but they are now incorporating Blott rubbers and beads, and we are having a great time hunting down coloured S clips, glow in the dark and colour changing loom bands.

Two of DD's gazillion bracelets, necklaces, hair bands and rings so far. She's wearing pretty much all the rest and refuses to let me take a pic for 'that Mumsnet' (as she calls it )

She's 5 and totally obsessed and way better than I am at making things

DD (10) is a one-woman loom band industry. This is just a fraction of her output. She spends hours researching new things to make on You Tube so I figure she must be learning something educationally about following instructions and attention to detail! I particularly like Elsa from Frozen in her cape. I'm told the creature with the yellow eyes is "a dragony thing".

Rubber bands perish eventually though so I'm expecting an ever-increasing pile of partially disintegrated coloured rubber to get trodden into the carpet over the weeks and months to come.

My daughter Emily, 9, made these for the challenge. She made a star fruit bowl with an apple, an orange and a banana, and a popcorn keychain. She is very excited about the competition.

Dd1 asked me to submit this rather than her green dragon. It's what I came home to yesterday and she's very proud of him!
