The Mumsnet Summer Loom Band Challenge - £200 of Hobbycraft vouchers up for grabs

Cabin fever setting in when the school holidays have barely begun? Wondering how on earth you're going to keep the DC entertained for six (gulp) whole weeks? Introducing...the Mumsnet Summer Loom Band Challenge.

For anyone who has been living under a rock for the last few months doesn't know what loom-banding is, here's a quick guide.

Like those of you who saw it, we at MNHQ were most impressed with the loom band dress that recently sold for more than £170,000 on eBay, and it got us wondering what loom brilliance Mumsnetters' offspring were capable of.

Post pictures of your DC's best creations below, and our favourite (loom band gin bottle anyone?) will win a £100 Hobbycraft voucher, with two £50 vouchers available for runners-up.

The competition is open until midnight on Sunday 10 August.

I'm not entering the contest or anything, I just wanted to say that all of the creations so far are brilliant! There are some patient kids out there, I wouldn't know where to begin.

Not sure if this counts, but it's something DD made & it is loombands, so I hope so - she's very proud if this & so far no-one has seen this "weave" before, so whereas she didn't think she has come up with something new, maybe she actually has :)

It makes a narrower, more rounded band, that's proving very popular with the boys at school.

She's made tons of other things, but bar the simple ones she wears, has given them all away, so no photos to post, but hoping this tutorial will do instead :)

(She's obsessed with a few YouTubers, so it's in that sort of format )

Finished bracelet compared to a fishtail one...

This is D's (age 10) creation, a swimming costume for Bunny. But as in the best costumes, you can't wear it in the water or sun (imagine if it melted!!)
Back has a thong (poor Bunny) ;)

RockinDD thank you so much for your youtube tutorial, you are right, it is much better than the fishtail ones and will look much nicer on my 5 year old (she has tiny arms so normal weaves looked too bulky) Also, nicely explained, I find loom bands really hard but managed to follow that perfectly.

The loom is a bit too fiddly for dd (just turned 6) but she can do the simple bands on her fingers no problem. So for anyone with younger dc I would recommend googling this.

I am loving these creations!

Try an upturned plug instead and use the two pins instead of fingers.

Loom band crazy my dear son...he is as I write this making his Nan a loom band bracelet (she has been very poorly) and he is going to write her a card and put the bracelet in the card. What made me so happy was, he thought of this idea all by himself.

An Olaf for a frozen obsessed household!

From the top left, a snake, Elsa from Frozen, complete with cape, and a shuffle bracelet, which I'm reliably informed is advanced level. All by DD, 8 yrs.

I'll just empty the Hoover bag for the million other thingamjigs.

DD1 (11) made this case for her ipad mini - 5 hours of blood, sweat and tears and 1600 bands!!
