CountessDracula · 10/08/2006 23:29

my problem is that polluting bloody gas guzzling tanks should not be promoted on a family site

BadHair · 10/08/2006 23:29

I guess it says a lot about the outside world's perception of Mumsnetters.

CountessDracula · 10/08/2006 23:30

handlemecarefully · 10/08/2006 23:31

Oh is there? I might buy it for dd - just to pootle around in the back garden in

Quootiepie · 10/08/2006 23:31

i dont get the 4x4 thing... a Merc. creates more pollution than a diesel 4x4....

SherlockLGJ · 10/08/2006 23:31

CD

When we own and finance this site, then we can choose what to decorate our front pages with.

CountessDracula · 10/08/2006 23:31

I take it you don't live in london QP

It's just prejudice Quootiepie. Most large MPVS have similar fuel consumption, and I believe that the funky new mini only does 30 mpg.

WorldFamousAuthorMolotov · 10/08/2006 23:33

ta-ra

CountessDracula · 10/08/2006 23:34

oh yes just prejudice

The fact that my dd was nearly killed by one of these things, that they trash my car when the cretins who drive them can't park them, that they stuff up the roads, that they use vast amounts of petrol. Of course I am prejudiced against them

OP posts:
handlemecarefully · 10/08/2006 23:34

It's "pick and mix" environmental radicalism....many 4x4 detractors are probably not squeaky clean on other environmental issues (yeah like they all buy in season products all the time, are avid members of freecycle etc).

Quootiepie · 10/08/2006 23:36

no, Berkshire. I need my 4x4 to tow... otherwise i wouldnt have it

Heathcliffscathy · 10/08/2006 23:37

oh hmc, but it's an easy way of NOT being environmentally irresponsible: don't choose to drive a 4x4.

i have to say that huge 4x4s especially those with bullbars i find heinous from the point of view of danger, especially to things below the sight-line....like buggies and children for example.

anyway, this isn't a thread about 4x4s it's a thread about advertising said cars on mn.

and plastic surgery clinics????

did the mn quality filter go wrong in terms of advertising revenue this week....or are times this desperate???

Quootiepie · 10/08/2006 23:37

agree they are probably a pest in cities... and people who drive them (without a good reason) do tend to mow you down. But I cant get the pollution arguement...

BadHair · 10/08/2006 23:38

It's not just about pollution, though, it's about why some people choose to use a car that is inappropriate for their needs. A 4x4 is designed for off-road use, not to shuttle a couple of children to and from school. If you go offroad, or if you drive on anything other tarmac, then fine as you obviously have a need to drive such a car, but the majority of 4x4 owners only actually need a bloody Nissan Micra - they just want to promote themselves as rugged outdoor types.

And the same goes for anyone who drives a car bigger than they need - Galaxy owners with one small passenger who never have anything more than a few bags of shopping in the boot are just as bad.

Oh no, don't let me start ranting.

Quootiepie · 10/08/2006 23:38

well, i think MN should advertise what they like.. its prob. the money from these ads keeping us afloat

Quootiepie · 10/08/2006 23:39

buisnessmen in their range rover SPORT (??!!??) make me laugh.

CountessDracula · 10/08/2006 23:41

or the year on year subs from the long term members maybe

UrsulatheSeawitch · 10/08/2006 23:41

Where are these sodding ads? Haven't seen a 4x4 ad or an ultralase ad yet????
