This being Britain, I think that the Funniest Person wins.

People who have evidence of a sense-of-humour failure are automatically Baddies.

So we need to keep things light, funny and of course polite.

So no barbecues or anything that might be construed as personal targeting of World Famous Authors or their Methods.

What about something really positive, like a washing line strung with pieces of paper on which are written statements from people about the ways in which MN has really helped them?? Interspersed with baby items like small socks.

Orlando · 09/08/2006 13:38

liking the sound of that.

suejonez · 09/08/2006 13:39

I really wish I could come but can't get out of work sorry

misdee · 09/08/2006 13:40

i cant do this. but am 100% behind everyone partaking.

Quootiepie · 09/08/2006 13:41

agree that anything we do should be light and fun - we dont want to look scary and bullies, you know? Not saying we would... but we have to make sure the media doesnt make say for eg. a demo seem like you know... a mob of angry mums... im not very good at explaining things so dont jump on me if im offending anyones ideas. Not anti-demo, just think it has to right so as not to be turned round against us...

Gobblunarcharsky · 09/08/2006 13:42

Love that idea MP - ooooh, so miffed I can't make it!

morningpaper · 09/08/2006 13:43

And worth checking with local police that you don't need written permission for a demo - demonstrations are a complicated legal issue now

misdee · 09/08/2006 13:43

if you do MP, then someone print this one out to send her. to me, that thread shows how much you were all there for me

Fimbo · 09/08/2006 13:47

All the best for tomorrow everyone.

I wonder if Fern Britton has heard about all of this. She was/is alledgedly a MN'r.

bundle · 09/08/2006 13:49

fimbo, wasn't that netmums?

Fimbo · 09/08/2006 13:51

I think she has mentioned both sites on This Morning, before. It would be good to get a celebrity behind it as well though.

wannaBe1974 · 09/08/2006 13:51

edam how many takers do you have?

WorldFamousAuthorMolotov · 09/08/2006 13:53

there are only about half a dozen coming to the Lakes meet!

pity we haven't got time for car stickers or something!

ChandraVilla · 09/08/2006 13:53

Agree that a petition is best. If we go against Vermillion we would be becoming what we are fighting. It's about frredom of speech not about her methods.

GreenhamCommonSleeves · 09/08/2006 13:54

LOL @ "mob of angry mums"

I would demonstrate happily, if it was against the idea of the site being liable for content - although I do think individuals should still be liable for the things they say online - there has to be some control over what people are allowed to do online, so that we can manage pornography, paedophilia etc.

I can't do tomorrow though, it's too soon. I would need notice so dh could get time off to have the boys.

alexsmilitantmum · 09/08/2006 13:58

st george - have just e-mailed you

edam · 09/08/2006 14:13

Not enough, Wannabe. I know it's short notice but there's a reason for that!

OP posts:
wannaBe1974 · 09/08/2006 14:16

would have to speak to dh, seriously don't know how he'd feel about me taking ds to a demonstration. Also would anyone going be travelling through paddington? The thought of travelling on the underground on my own with a child and a guide dog is not one which I would wrelish, and I'm not confident on the underground anyway

wannaBe1974 · 09/08/2006 14:17

although am sure that a guide dog at a demo would make for good news, lol.

edam · 09/08/2006 14:17

Agree re site liability Greenham, that's the key point - that libel law hasn't kept up with the development of the internet and its immediacy and interactivity. At the moment, web sites are more vulnerable than print or broadcast media IMO because the case law just isn't there to show ISPs/website owners what they should reasonably do or how they should respond to complaints.
