Who is up for a protest outside Random House/Vermillion (who publish that book) TOMORROW? It will be in London. Possibly wearing gags (silenced by xxx).

Please add your name here and I'll CAT you.

alexsmilitantmum · 09/08/2006 15:29

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 09/08/2006 15:32

Come on girls - where are you all?! There must be a lot more than a handful of us willing to do this - there needs to be dozens of us to make this work

NomDePlume · 09/08/2006 15:33

Sorry, nowhere near London

cye · 09/08/2006 15:34

Edam is right, a demo needs to be done quickly while it's got a chance of getting media coverage (there's nothing worse than old news). if it doesn't happen pronto as far as journalists are concerned it'll be whiskery/fish and chip paper. 'The media' do not take a dim view of children at demos...last time i looked all the media cared about what a good story with the best headline/pic they can get. A dim view is taken of petitions - when did you last see a petition on the news? i'm not knocking the petition, it's part of a campaign and a necessary one, but it won't make tv news. Babies protesting is good copy and even better pictures...it might make it on in august esp rolling news networks. N24 and Sky. I assume someone from MN HQ will be there to give interviews with mums n babies milling around in background..? and a tot carrying a placard is always a popular picture for the papers...
Also journalists can't just do story after story about what interests them - they need a news 'peg' to hang it on so sympathetic as lots of reporters might be out there MNers have to help them out and give them a good excuse to do the story again! It was everywhere yesterday so now they need something new to say before it can be done again.
I'd love to come if it goes ahead, should be seeing childminder but will try to rearrange. Will bring DD. Off now to activate CAT.

SaintGeorge · 09/08/2006 15:34

Got your mail and replied direct. It is the address I have used before but I have sent another invite again just in case.

Have you checked your junk mail folder in case your email has classed it as spam?

alexsmilitantmum · 09/08/2006 15:38

right have just had the e-mail saying you are using the right address but no invitation yet. curiouser and curiouser!!!!

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 09/08/2006 15:41

CYE - FAB FAB FAB

PLEASE be there.

Im just trying to get hold of my dad to see if he will come with me to help with the girls - 2 yr old and baby not a good mix when im an hour away by train.

DH is even tempted to go AWOL from the Army to attend with me, but its not worth the shit he would get on friday mornign!

fairyjay · 09/08/2006 15:41

What about asking the other sites who've shown support to get their members to attend, if poss. After all, this potentially affects their sites as well!

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 09/08/2006 15:42

i know one person is alerting Bounty - we need to get babyworld/BMC etc behind us too

GreenhamCommonSleeves · 09/08/2006 15:47

Have just checked trains - it would cost me £150 for return ticket, plus travel to and from stations. If anyone wants to organise something with a bit more notice I'd be interested though

fairyjay · 09/08/2006 15:48

What about the other sites that contacted us yesterday? Has anyone contacted them? Is there any problem in us doing so?

fairyjay · 09/08/2006 15:48

Greenham
Where would you be travelling from? Could anyone else help?
(Sound like you should be good at protests!!)

CountessDracula · 09/08/2006 15:49

Do you not think it might be wise to wait until at least next week so that more people could attend? A poorly attended demo always looks crap imo

NomDePlume · 09/08/2006 15:50

I agree with CD. A small demo could be a real damp squib if you want to make an impression volume really counts (both sound and number)

GreenhamCommonSleeves · 09/08/2006 15:53

Have checked coaches and would be much cheaper - but would involve a round trip of almost nine hours, which I don't think I can face. I think the short notice will be a problem for a lot of people who don't live in the South East.

AvaLou · 09/08/2006 15:54

or at least arrange it for later in the day? Even 1pm would give people more time to get there,
To get to westminster at 10pm will be an unnecesary cost, and unaffordable for many .
ino

fairyjay · 09/08/2006 15:56

My initial thoughts were that it was too little notice - but it needs to be tomorrow.
Needs to be 10am to catch the news.

SaintGeorge · 09/08/2006 15:56

alexsmum - if still no luck try emailing this adress

[email protected]

CountessDracula · 09/08/2006 15:56

Also, nobody has said:

I have therefore been advised by my solicitors to consider issuing a writ in the High Court in London for libel - though I very much hope this will not be necessary

Not so sure that a protest before she does this is going to be paid much attention.

If (god forbid) she does, then protests would raise the profile again

NomDePlume · 09/08/2006 15:59

Am I being thick here when I say that I think so far the profile of this HASN'T dropped ? As far as I can see, it has been splashed all over everywhere - papers, radio, tv news. Surely we'd be better to keep a BIG physical protest in our battle arsenal for when things get really hairy ?

AvaLou · 09/08/2006 16:00

I think it won't and given the location of random house, a handful of mums protesting there (above nasty traffic noise) will make no problem to no one
