Who is up for a protest outside Random House/Vermillion (who publish that book) TOMORROW? It will be in London. Possibly wearing gags (silenced by xxx).

Please add your name here and I'll CAT you.

Ditto re. post - sorry

desperateSCOUSEwife · 09/08/2006 12:42

but there is a wider picture isnt there
surely it affects every internet user if this thing can go on

so shouldnt be targetting specifically internet users and service providers for support iykwim

Orlando · 09/08/2006 12:43

If there is already a meet-up organised in the Lakes, maybe local press could be notified and could come along to interview some of the mums there? Then they could see what a sensible, articulate (not to mention glamorous and photogenic) lot we are.

AvaLou · 09/08/2006 12:44

does anyomne have parents that have peerages on here? (remebering the fox hunting thing) would be fab if even a couple of us could burst into parliament in session

Quootiepie · 09/08/2006 12:44

well, doing a mass petition wearing the said Tee-shirts can take place... next week?

fairyjay · 09/08/2006 12:44

Maybe if we set something up, members of the other sites who have offered to support us could be invited along also?

Quootiepie · 09/08/2006 12:45

or sooner if people can handle the short notice.

stitch · 09/08/2006 12:46

my dad has a peerage.
the one i bought of iwantoneofthose.com for twenty quid.

AvaLou · 09/08/2006 12:47

oooh stitch get us into the h.o.p on a 'guestlist' and we can unleash.
though maybe not.

AvaLou · 09/08/2006 12:49

off topic but my dad bought some land near our house in Italy and was 'sponsered' by the governemnt to do so. Corruption is everywhere, though I guess you need not be told so re. Italy.

TrotskyPlayedTheHarpsichord · 09/08/2006 12:52

I have no problem with a demo. I doubt it would be too rowdy .
but tomorrow is deffo too soon, just from a practical POV.
we would need to be clear that we are demonmstrating against the threat to free speech not the routines/books.
next week maybe
?

AvaLou · 09/08/2006 12:54

why is thursday a good protest day? Just wondering as many seem to happen on thursdays.

WorldFamousAuthorMolotov · 09/08/2006 12:57

I think its a great idea - I've been on a demo before

unfortunately I will be at the Lakes meet up (or fortunately - sorry fellow meetees )

CitizenFranny · 09/08/2006 12:58

"I find it sad some of you are not taking this seriously."

LOL you are new aren't you?

Orlando · 09/08/2006 12:58

Get the press down there, WFA.

edam · 09/08/2006 12:59

I know it's short notice but there's a reason, partly to do with the need to keep the story in the public eye. Thursday always a good day to issue press releases but can't remember why, tbh!

Need dozens of people to sign up for definite to make this happen. It would be helpful, honest! CAT me or sign up here and I'll post full details.

Get your local paper/TV and radio news along to the Lakes, if you can!

Maybe Mumsnet to present nobody with a huge bouquet of flowers, on behalf of all internet users, to thank her for bringing this ridiculous law to the country's attention.

wannaBe1974 · 09/08/2006 13:03

agree tomorrow is too soon. If you do it next week then there is time to get some publicity about it - get the fact there will be a demonstration in the media - sunday papers, radio, tv, a couple of days before it will happen and then there is more chance the media will be there to cover it. I would suggest demonstrating either outside the offices of an internet provider, to bring across the idea of the internet, or outside downing street to emphasise the change in the law we want. I definitely don't think demonstrating outside the officers of publishers are a good idea, and instead of having gags would suggest we had megaphones to emphasise the fact we want freedom of "speech".

I also think people should arrange childcare as I don't think a demonstration is a good place for children, the media take a dim view of people who take their children along to protests.

wannaBe1974 · 09/08/2006 13:08

edam I take your point about it needing to be tomorrow, but it really is too soon to organize, instead of demonstrating tomorrow maybe we could contact some media organizations, bbc, gmtv, sky (ultimate tabloid tv) and try and get ourselves on there explaining our cause. I'm up for going on national tv to explain what we're campaigning for, we can still be pro-active without having to demonstrate straight away. A well-thought out demonstration will gain more positive press than one that was organized at the last minute.

edam · 09/08/2006 13:08

Wannabe, I appreciate your points, but there's stuff I can't say on here for legal reasons IYSWIM.

Bringing children along would be a good idea for a demo by mothers about a parenting website - make great pics for the press. It's not as if we are going to have a pitched battle with the cops and get arrested!

GMTV very good idea if we can, everyone watches that, well nearly everyone

Orlando · 09/08/2006 13:10

Someone get in touch with GMTV and invite them to the Lakes meet up.

wannaBe1974 · 09/08/2006 13:12

edam email me if you want [email protected]

edam · 09/08/2006 13:21
