My email to Central News and Midlands Newsquest

To whom it may concern,

As a member of the above website I would like to bring the following information to your attention.

xxx is trying to close down the parenting website www.mumsnet.com. The website provides much needed advice and support to many, and as can be seen from the threads I have 'linked' to there is a huge amount of support for the founders, and, each other, and as a result we are trying to spread the message far and wide. There may be a lot of heated debate, and, even full blown 'fist 'fights', but when the chips are down, we're all there for each other.

Please go to mumsnet and read these threads, but, be warned it could take a while!

Thanking you in advance for your time and patience.

Also sent to GMTV

Caligula · 07/08/2006 21:43

Would there be any mileage in contacting well-known parenting gurus such as Michael Rosen, Christopher Green, Penelope Leach, et al?

Cannot believe this.

GarfieldsGirl · 07/08/2006 21:47

What about just for mums

and

the baby channel?

if it's been in the standard today and you want it on bbc it's prob worth trying to get some interest tonight for the morning progs (otherwise story gets 'old' - ie it looks like the bbc is following the standard, which would never do...)

If someone from MN HQ rings the overnight teams on Today prog/TV Breakfast news/five live breakfast they might get somewhere. it is august so they might have slots to fill at short notice!

if they like the story they'll want someone from MN HQ/mark stevens plus a MN regular with a strong 'MN saved my life' story to tell. they'll get the lawyers from the other side for balance.

if breakfast outlets don't bite the One o clock news is aimed at mothers of young children (ie likely to be at home during the day). and newsnight might like a meaty 'freedom of speech' row.

In all instances ring television centre switch and ask for the programme and then ask for a producer on tomorrow's/today's programme.
BBC 0208 7438000

jeremy vine prog also worth a call, i'd think (ring rather than email, be pushy!) and you and yours on radio four. also womans hour! use same number as above and ask to be put through to broadcasting house and then for programme (i think).

hope this helps!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/08/2006 23:11

Which channel was "mums the word" shown on?

cye · 07/08/2006 23:18

Caligula, yes, i think that's a great idea. if a well respected child guru - eg penelope leach was willing to go up against nobody then it would be a good headline and get lots of publicity. prob a bit unlikely that she would say anything very strong but worth a try...? what about miriam stoppard? i suppose elizabeth pantley is most likely to be willing to do it but is she high profile enough?
what about sheila kitzinger - she's earned her stripes as a campaigner and isn't scared of putting noses out of joint?! or is she too childbirth to comment on childcare?

flashingnose · 07/08/2006 23:55

Am posting this anywhere that seems relevant:

You can listen again to the snippet about MN on Five Live via the BBC website. It's on "Drive", about 2 hrs 36 mins into the show.
