Porny 'serve ad' pop up/web page opening from an MN thread.

AmberLeaf · 14/02/2014 20:22

I was just on a thread and a porn/hook up page opened up.

I have all the regular MN ads down the right side and the box that has ads that are generated by your own google searches.

Im using a laptop that is very new and that only I have access to. I know that sometimes these things happen because of the user search generated ads, but I can 100% guarantee I havent been on any sites like that! I may have 'clicked' on something on the page, this laptop mousepad sometimes 'clicks' on things as you slide your finger across rather than actually tapping on it.

Maybe this happened because of another website Ive visited, but I can't think of any sites Ive been on that would do that?

I can link the thread I was on and the page that came up if necessary.

It quite possibly is something to do with my laptop, but thought Id highlight it just in case it is MN related.

I'm on a laptop and using FF when it happens, but not using Windows8.

YippeeKiYayMakkaPakka · 18/02/2014 14:26

Windows 8 and Firefox here, on a desktop though.

cozietoesie · 18/02/2014 15:48

Ah well. It was an interesting theory while it lasted - which wasn't long. It still seems to be all Firefox users though?

cozietoesie · 18/02/2014 15:50

No - just remembered that someone was using Opera.

bruffin · 18/02/2014 18:54

I just got a naught dating one as well. This was on firefox as well, but i am sure i got it on my work computer and that isnt firefox, its an old version of windows

paperdiary4ever · 18/02/2014 19:25

MNHQ, do you still need a screenshot? I've got one if so. Not sure I want to upload it to the thread unless it's completely necessary!

I've had it about 4 times now. Not sure if there's a pattern. This time I left myself logged into Mumsnet while I went up to get the kids ready for bed, and it was on-screen when I got back. Before I left I was on the "Threads I'm on" page.

I've got a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, running Windows Vista Home Basic, service pack 2.

paperdiary4ever · 18/02/2014 19:26

p.s. I'm using Firefox.

NotGoodNotBad · 18/02/2014 20:10

Grr, just got it on the PC (was on laptop before). Both Firefox, laptop is Windows 8, this is Windows 7. Used Chrome earlier and didn't get it but maybe that was just luck.

ShadowOfTheDay · 18/02/2014 20:23

just got this.... firefox here too... and going to "threads I'm on" seemed to trigger it...

if it happens again, mumsnet will be long, LONG gone from the places I visit.....

cozietoesie · 18/02/2014 20:35

Just got it again - and I think it was from hovering over a block ad halfway down on the right which was something about 'put together your style' (or something similar) with a tightly wrapped barbie type figure in a pink dress plus assorted clothes as the ad graphic. Does anyone else remember this?

cozietoesie · 18/02/2014 20:41

'Discover your style' - and it's a red dress. (I'd be hopeless on a police ID parade.) It just did it again when I hovered over the arrow button at the bottom right of that ad. Could someone else try it if they see that one?

nemno · 18/02/2014 20:41

Just got it again after clicking I'm Watching.

snice · 18/02/2014 20:45

i just had a page open that had been blocked by Talktalk parental controls as porn. using Firefox.

FiaGrace · 18/02/2014 20:54

Just got it again, Firefox user, clicked on Threads I'm watching. Getting pretty pissed off about it to be honest.

CocktailQueen · 18/02/2014 20:58

I've had this a few times too - new windows 8 desktop, running Firefox!

TinyTear · 18/02/2014 21:33

got it now on windows 7 using firefox

wooldonor · 18/02/2014 21:52

I've just clicked on a thread and before I knew it a new window had opened up for "horny smashers". Not entirely sure what these are but it appears to involve being topless and using a mobile.

I'm on a windows 7 PC with Firefox

lovestea · 18/02/2014 21:56

And again. My pointer was over the white left hand side margin, and nowhere near an ad. Boring and annoying it is.

cozietoesie · 18/02/2014 21:59

OK - I isolated the two naughties I 'think' may be in the frame. I'll send a screenshot in.

GemmaTeller · 18/02/2014 22:02

I've had it on two consecutive days at roughly the same time (?)

I've run a scan on both occasions.

RandomMess · 18/02/2014 22:05

I'm having this issue too, I'm on firefox and have sole use of my PC - brings up a new tab and always the same advert - grrr

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 18/02/2014 22:13

Glad it's not just me, I've been getting some page called Horny Smashers Hmm coming up on DPs laptop and then it came up today again, DP is going mental trying to find whatever is causing it and he can't. I've been booted off and on to my phone for infecting the leptop! :(

wooldonor · 18/02/2014 22:21

Schro - that's the same one I had. I have the website address but I don't want to post it. MNHQ - let me know if it would help for me to send it to you

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 18/02/2014 22:25

DP has the address too, it's already been listed on here though only the site address is not horny smashers it's the smash your one that has been mentioned, he has done a full scan as well and nothing. We're running Windows 7 and Firefox.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 18/02/2014 22:28

And DP also not impressed that I insisted he must have been on porn for it to happen... Especially as he's pretty against porn. Blush
