Porny 'serve ad' pop up/web page opening from an MN thread.

AmberLeaf · 14/02/2014 20:22

I was just on a thread and a porn/hook up page opened up.

I have all the regular MN ads down the right side and the box that has ads that are generated by your own google searches.

Im using a laptop that is very new and that only I have access to. I know that sometimes these things happen because of the user search generated ads, but I can 100% guarantee I havent been on any sites like that! I may have 'clicked' on something on the page, this laptop mousepad sometimes 'clicks' on things as you slide your finger across rather than actually tapping on it.

Maybe this happened because of another website Ive visited, but I can't think of any sites Ive been on that would do that?

I can link the thread I was on and the page that came up if necessary.

It quite possibly is something to do with my laptop, but thought Id highlight it just in case it is MN related.

Amber Leaf, that is the one I got this evening too. Sorry that we are having this happen, but do not understand why everyone else is not complaining too. Is it just certain IPs that are being directed to this site? But why? Please MN tell us.

Honestly, just how much business did they think they would get from MumsNet? It's a bit sad and laughable in a way!

cozietoesie · 16/02/2014 22:47

They're unpleasant - but pretty anodyne, lovestea. (Compared to some of the stuff on the web.) Plus - you're covered by this thread.

cozietoesie · 16/02/2014 22:49

One thing this has done is finally really got me au fait with the snipping tool on Windows 8. I'll never worry about a screenshot again.

lovestea · 16/02/2014 22:53

Thanks cozie, I am not really worried, just a bit pissed off with it and wondering how we all got hit but others did not. Have I left a door open some where? Cozie, how often are they popping up for you?

cozietoesie · 16/02/2014 22:58

Not one this evening so far. Maybe Tech are having a go at the issue or maybe my regular scrubbing of the laptop is cutting something out. (I scan and clean it about twice a day in addition to the security programs.)

24yearslivingnextdoortoalice · 16/02/2014 23:09

I'm on Opera.

nemno · 17/02/2014 17:28

I've had it 3 times in the last 3 days, latest just now. The 'smash' one, I'm using Firefox.

cozietoesie · 17/02/2014 17:31

Just had one - for the first time in two days and just minutes after a full clean of the machine. (The usual, new window opening etc.) I'll send it in although I suspect Tech have enough examples by now.

cozietoesie · 17/02/2014 17:32

Oh - and by the way. I only seem to get them on the Site Stuff board. Beats me why.

cozietoesie · 17/02/2014 19:02

And another one, just after a complete scan. I'm going to see if I can get some evidence on this blighter.

NotGoodNotBad · 17/02/2014 19:44

I got naughty dating too while browsing MN. Wasn't sure if it was MN or a virus or something - I started by clearing my cache in case it appeared again with autocomplete type stuff. Anyway, I guess I know now!

NotGoodNotBad · 17/02/2014 19:45

Firefox here too btw.

NotGoodNotBad · 17/02/2014 19:47

Arrgh, just appeared again complete with big boobs. I am so not their target market...

HumphreyCobbler · 17/02/2014 19:48

This boob flashing site popped up when I was viewing MN on DH's laptop. He was not amused, it is his work computer.

cozietoesie · 17/02/2014 19:56

They don't always have a 'target market' in that traditional sense, NotGood. They're just after a way in.

cozietoesie · 17/02/2014 19:59

Got it again - just after a complete scan (it's really getting a workout today) found a very few deep and dark things.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 17/02/2014 20:37

I've just had it again: Free Naughty Dating, girl with massive boobs. Bit embarrassing as my DS, 7, is sat next to me!

ChineseFireball · 17/02/2014 21:41

Just had it again! Refreshed this thread and there were the boobs boob page.

I ran a full takes a really long time scan after the first one popped up and have no virus alerts.

Is there anything else Tech needs to know? Is there an update on why MNHQ thinks we are getting these? Why IS a raven like a writing desk?

PandaG · 17/02/2014 21:48

I just got this too. Horny smashers or somesuch. Just suddenly opened a new tab. Not very pleased tbh.

lovestea · 17/02/2014 21:52

Bloody Hell. I have it again. So, went to their 'contact us' page and filled in the boxes with a ranty rant about how fecking dare they do this, blah, blah.
Last box is a question. How much is 5 + 4? So I put in 9.
And lo and behold a box comes up that says 'math doesn't seem to be your strong point'.
Haaaaaa haaaaa!
Cozie, please do tell what deep and dark things you found out. Is it their lack of numerical knowledge? (somehow I doubt this).
That is one hell of a lot of boobs on there.

Hi All,

Really sorry about all this- just to update you, we've reported this to our ad suppliers who are trying to track it down, I'll let you know as soon as we hear anything.

Is it fair to say that this problem is mainly on Windows 8 and those using firefox? Or is that just a coincidence?

cozietoesie · 18/02/2014 10:32

I'm not getting anything on the computer down here - which is using FF but is not Win8 so maybe so. (It seems to be only the laptops - which have FF and Win8 both.) Interestingly, it seems to be occurring after I've done a complete adware/malware scan - happened three times last night in that way but then was OK after the final scan until I shut off for the night.

(The complete scan seems every time to be bringing up a couple of stray adwares from deep down somewhere which are not being caught by the quick scan (which is still pretty comprehensive.) Don't know if that's relevant.)

teaandthorazine · 18/02/2014 11:35

Yep, I've just had this! Clicked on a thread title and got tits instead.

Using Firefox. Not Windows 8 though (I think my laptop runs Windows pre-Cambrian)

cozietoesie · 18/02/2014 11:38

It's always laptops though? If so, I wonder if there's anything different about them?
