WHY have you got rid of All On One Page?

I HATE pages.

Please give them back!

OP posts:
evilgiraffe · 11/12/2013 11:12

I had no idea bookmarks existed until I came to this thread. I use classic, so can't see them in any case, and if you have to do mouse hovering then surely it's irrelevant to iPad anyway?

iPad, version 5.1.1, safari, desktop site.

Mckayz · 11/12/2013 11:13

I have never used bookmarks until today. Never even heard of them.

I am using Firefox on Windows 7.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/12/2013 11:14

What should happen is that if you click on the title of a thread (anywhere) it should take you to the first (oldest) post in that thread OR it should take you to your bookmark.

If you click on a particular post on TIO or Watching it should take you to that particular post.

RowanMumsnet · 11/12/2013 11:14

@evilgiraffe

I'm on iPad, version 5.1.1, looking at the desktop site on safari.

Here's what happens with Threads I'm On:
If I click on the thread title, it takes me to the start of the thread (oldest post first as per my settings).
If I click on the most recent username of a 500 post thread, it takes me to the start of the thread, so I have to wait for the page to load, then clck on "last page", then wait for that to load, then scroll to the bottom.

Thanks evilgiraffe - we hope to have all TIO links sorted ASAP

hedgehogy · 11/12/2013 11:15

I use bookmarks on the iPad - you touch the bottom right of a post and the option appears. It makes reading mums net so much easier!

RustyBear · 11/12/2013 11:15

Evil giraffe - on iPad you just touch the post you want to bookmark briefly (if you touch too long it tries to copy) and the bookmark button appears- touch hat and it says saving, then saved.

TheCurseOfTinsel · 11/12/2013 11:15

My threads clicked/not clicked colour change is variable atm (not helpful!).

So, for eg, this thread - I click on active convos, and it is highlighted. I click somethign else, click back to Active, and it's not highlighted.

It seems completely random.

RowanMumsnet · 11/12/2013 11:16

@RustyBear

Ok, further confusion - I bookmarked Rowan's 10.38 post to see if that made any difference. Now, if I come to this thread via active convos I get taken to the bottom of the page (ie the most recent post) but if I go to the site stuff page and try it from there it takes me to the bookmark. (Ipad, iOS7.0.4 Safari).

Just going to try on chrome....

weird Confused

Do let us know what you find out, Rusty Thanks

Right - thanks. Will pass this on!

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 11/12/2013 11:17

Evilgiraffe if you're on the mobile site and have bookmarks on, it's a link, not a hoverer.

evilgiraffe · 11/12/2013 11:18

Okay, thanks, rusty. I might have to move off Classic if we are stuck with 500 post maximum, then.

DameDeepRedBetty · 11/12/2013 11:19

Update. From Active, I saw that BadBadKitten's Christmas weather forecast thread, which I am on, and had bookmarked the last post I read, was not highlighted. When I clicked on it, I was thrown straight to the end, not to my bookmark. At least I had my own post highlighted to help me navigate.

evilgiraffe · 11/12/2013 11:19

I hate the mobile site, Tee, it looks all wrong :( And you can't use bookmarks with Classic display anyway, but thank you! More knowledge is more power to my elbow :)

SootikinAndSweep · 11/12/2013 11:20

From TIO, if I click the most recent poster's name, it takes me to that post, ie the most recent post of the thread.

If I select a random thread from Active that I've not looked at before, it takes me to the most recent post also.

Mckayz · 11/12/2013 11:20

I might turn MN off. What is the point of clicking on a new thread only to be taken to the last page and the most recent post? I need to read the OP before the replies.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 11/12/2013 11:21

Most other sites would just say "Tough" when people complain about changes.

Just saying...

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/12/2013 11:22

When I clicked on the link to the merchandise thread rowan posted earlier (that I have never read/bookmarked) it took me to the first/oldest post. (correct as per my customise settings)

If I click on a thread title in Active (that I have never read/bookmarked) it takes me to the last/newest post. (incorrect per my customise settings)

What operating system are you on - Windows?

Is anyone else having trouble with bookmarks?

Yes - this does seem to be the issue. We've asked Tech to have a look to see what can be done.

FairPhyllis · 11/12/2013 11:24

I have the issue with Active Conversations too.

If I click on any thread in Active I am taken to the most recent post at the bottom of the page (despite no bookmarks, and having customisation set to 'messages read down like a book').

So it is doing in Active what I want it to do in TIO.

AAAARRRRGGGHH.

I am using Firefox with XP.

spamm · 11/12/2013 11:25

Bookmarks not working for me on my iPad, IOS7, web view, not app or mobile site, and I have used them since day one, as I love them.

I have my settings to read from OP down the page, and use bookmarks to manage the thread, but it juts get taken to most recent post on every thread I open. Also, threads already opened are not consistently highlighted as 'already viewed'.

Mckayz · 11/12/2013 11:26

FairPhyllis, that is it! It's like Tech has swapped Active and TIO settings.

Sorry but isn't that what 'read down like a book' is supposed to do - ie oldest post at the top, newest post at the bottom?

But it's taking you to the bottom not to the top - is that the problem?

Huitre · 11/12/2013 11:30

The point is that on previously unread threads, we are being taken to the last post, not the first. Which is silly. Clicking on thread titles in eg TIW is taking us to the first post, not the last. Which is also silly.

RowanMumsnet · 11/12/2013 11:30

Thanks spamm - sounds like your thread-view issue is the same as FairPhyllis's, is that right?

Bookmarks - hmm. Thanks. We will take a look

Threads already opened - yes, not sure what's happening here but we will flag it up
