WHY have you got rid of All On One Page?

Pascha · 10/12/2013 20:18

I HATE pages.

Please give them back!

OP posts:
Mckayz · 11/12/2013 11:31

Rowan, yes that is what mine is doing. It is still 'read down like a book' but it is taking you to the bottom of the last page. So the most recent post.

PirateJelly · 11/12/2013 11:31

Right am serious now. What's it gonna take?

Hey I'll even buy a MN mug I promise just purlease put it back to normal, I really don't take change well, it makes me feel all itchy and disorientated Hmm (though that could be the tramadol Blush)

TheCurseOfTinsel · 11/12/2013 11:31

Actually, Soupy, most other sites wouldn't stuff up a major change like this (well, not ones I use, anyway).

And I am talking major sites, not ones with minor traffic. And, having lived with a Tech for years - if one of his sites had had reports of a major screw up like this, he would have been up all night fixing it, not waiting until the next day to try to work out what is going on.

Just saying...

IShallWearMidnight · 11/12/2013 11:34

will go back and work out where I'd got to earlier, but my bookmarks aren't working any more on threads I've read but not posted on. TIO still keeps my bookmarks (tested it on the long Strictly thread), but this one I read about 120 posts in, bookmarked it, and now I've come back to it, I don't get to where i left off.
Sorry if this has already been explained, but because of ^^ I don't know Wink.

Now to go back and see if I can remember where i'd got to...

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 11/12/2013 11:34

I"m talking about people complaining about things they don't like.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 11/12/2013 11:35

Yay, my app is better, thank you :)

RowanMumsnet · 11/12/2013 11:37

@OhYouMerryLittleKitten

Yay, my app is better, thank you :)

Hey looks like I can go home!

TheCurseOfTinsel · 11/12/2013 11:37

I'm not sure that any of the complaints would carry the same weight if everything else had continued to work as it should, tbh.

Most of the complaints are about links/bookmarks/highlighted threads not working the way they used to. And that settings are apparently meaningless.

RowanMumsnet · 11/12/2013 11:37

No that is VERY clear IShall, thank you

Dame does this sound the same for your bookmark issue?

MarysDressSways · 11/12/2013 11:39

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease can we have one page back?

TheCurseOfTinsel · 11/12/2013 11:39

I bookmarked this thread too, at about 180ish posts (I think - only did it as a test). BUt it didn't work.

I do seem to be able to click straight to a particular post from TIO, though, by clicking on a poster's name.

Mckayz · 11/12/2013 11:40

To be honest I prefer having all on one page but would happily live with 500 post pages if everything else worked too.

exexpat · 11/12/2013 11:41

Just checked again - now it seems that if a thread I'm on is less than 500 messages long, clicking on it in TIO takes me to the most recent post - which is good.

If the thread is longer than 500 messages, clicking on it in TIO takes me to the OP, at the top of a page with the first 500 messages. So to get to the most recent post, I have to click to go to the next page, and then scroll all the way down to the last post - not good.

Also, using advanced search for a particular person's posts and then clicking on the post you want takes you not to that post but to the OP of that thread - not good.

FairPhyllis · 11/12/2013 11:42

Rowan Sorry to shout.

Yes, the issue is that you are taken to the bottom of the page, rather than the top. It doesn't happen when you click on a thread from a talk topic page, only from Active. And it's nothing to do with me having bookmarks set.

Seriously, this bit of functionality is great when it's in TIO and TIW, but not so much in Active - you often click on a thread you've never read before and you don't want to have to scroll up every time you access a thread from Active.

I will report back on anything else I notice.

RustyBear · 11/12/2013 11:43

Same thing happens on chrome - active convos takes me to the latest post, topic page takes me to the bookmark -(and on chrome, if I close the tab, go to a new tab and use the recently closed pages link that also takes me to the bookmark)

RowanMumsnet · 11/12/2013 11:45

OK - thanks everyone

Please do keep posting (we know you will Wink)

We're just waiting on some info from Tech about how long it's likely to take to address some of the issues. And then we'll be back with an update

Does that sound OK?

Apologies all. It wasn't supposed to be like this Blush

AnneEyhtMeyer · 11/12/2013 11:46

You know how you are saying "you are trying to fix it"? Well we don't want it fixed. We want it put back to All on one page.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 11/12/2013 11:47

Oh and while you are tinkering, get rid of those awful drop-down boxes and dreadful pictures will you?

IShallWearMidnight · 11/12/2013 11:49

ooh, my bookmark worked here. Don't get thread titles changing colour in Active when I've looked at them (which is a bit of an issue with my goldfish brain as it takes a while to realise that I'd already read it Blush which is why I love bookmarks Smile), but do in TIO and Watching. Not sure if it's a 500 messages thing or not though (am sad with 100 posts per page and newest posts at the top, but only because I've never changed it post bookmarks).
Chrome, desktop btw

IShallWearMidnight · 11/12/2013 11:50

but it doesn't say "saved" so I know - it did briefly, but then went again Sad

DameDeepRedBetty · 11/12/2013 11:54

Sorry Rowan, been away for a few minutes. Yes, I'm in Windows.

BeyondTheLimitsOfXmasability · 11/12/2013 11:55

But the 500/1000 posts thing: it doesnt automatically load 1000 posts, you have to actively choose for it to do that, so if people are having problems with something they have chose to do, just let them know that is why they have a problem, and they can change it back? Or suck it up because they made that decision.

Anyway, I've not noticed a particularly long loading time with long threads, when mn is buggered its buggered, no matter how long the thread?

Xmas Confused

I reckons you just don't want it to be as "easy" as it is for people to read deleted threads after they go poof! Grin

DameDeepRedBetty · 11/12/2013 11:58

Oh, and yes, it is the same for my bookmarks as IShallWearMidnight.

Have put your Gin in fridge. You can have it tonight, if I get my bookmarks back.

Have to go out now, best of luck with the Giant Spanner!

BeyondTheLimitsOfXmasability · 11/12/2013 11:58

Oo, re the hyperlink problem, one thought though - would it be easier for tech if the "watch this thread" check box stayed checked automatically? So whenever posting you automatically watched the thread from that point?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/12/2013 12:02

I dont know if this is related but mobile site is now too wide for my phone (about 2x) so is not resizing correctly.
