While we are fixing things why do I have about 30 sticky threads on the android mn app when im using active threads? I love the app but it means that when the connection is slow I never actually make it to threads that are actually active. The issue seems to be that the stickies never expire and go back to August.

TheCurseOfTinsel · 11/12/2013 10:55

Sorry, just to clarify:

topic links I have clicked form Active convos are still a different colour. Thread names are not, however.

Valpollicella · 11/12/2013 10:57

Rowan (you poor confused thing, I don't envy you right now Grin)

When logged in, I was all one page, oldest post first, reading down like a book etc.

Now, it takes me to the bottom of a thread, newest post first, and have to scroll back up to read, and if the thread is more than 500 posts, i get taken to page two, again the last post first

HTH

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 11/12/2013 10:58

Of course if we don't like two pages at the 500 post mark tech could always limit threads to 500 posts rather than 1000 Xmas Grin

Valpollicella · 11/12/2013 10:58

OYMMK, log out of the app and then back in, that sometimes helps to clear them

Sorry - it's an issue with your data on the app: you have to dump a load of data to force it to forget those threads. Will try to find a link for you. But the bad news is they'll start to build up again.

As we said below, we do have a long/medium term plan for the apps but anyone finding them really annoying at the mo might be better off using the mobile site for now.

EarthMither · 11/12/2013 10:59

I hate 500 posts too and would like the option to display 1000 please

Mine's being weird too, new threads I've never been on in Active are going p-toing straight to most recent post, and TIO are p-toing straight to OP, not my bookmark or most recent post.

On desktop, using New, Google Chrome.

It IS all working very quickly today though, and hasn't crashed at all.

Some Gin for ShamTech and Rowan to keep them going...

Everything was working fine for me earlier. I use bookmarks and they are still working, but if I click on a thread I haven't looked at before I am now being taken to the last post (at the bottom of the page - so I have to scroll back to the top to read the first post!).

Please just put it back how it was; if people learn how to bookmark the last post they've read then they will be taken to that place when they click on the thread in future; this was working earlier and still is.

TIO links will be fixed v shortly, promise

Ummm, has this been changed? I usually use pages but noticed last night that I didn't have the show all pages option, only show 500 messages. But now I have the show all messages option back again....
(different device though, if that matters?)

Mckayz · 11/12/2013 11:03

Rowan, when I go to Threads I'm On and I click on a posters name I want to go to their post not the first post. Like I have been doing for years.

When I click on a thread I have never been on before I want to go to the first page.

My settings have always been to show oldest post first. I think it is called read like a book in the settings.

MirandaWest · 11/12/2013 11:05

I don't see how changing it so people can't have what they'd like (all posts on one page) is an improvement. People could select to have pages if they want to but now I can't select to not have pages. My phone can cope fine with a full thread.

DebbieFiderer · 11/12/2013 11:05

[lightbulb] That'll be on threads that are less than 500 posts, ignore me!

DameDeepRedBetty · 11/12/2013 11:05

Right, just been in Active. I've been lurking on DoryZurich's thread, so it should have been highlighted. But wasn't. And I'd bookmarked it last night when I last checked in. So I clicked on it, got straight to the last post, and am wasting AGES trying to find my way back.

We do see why people are getting annoyed

But this was an attempt to improve loading times for everyone

Our site data tells us that site loading times - across the board, not just for people loading big threads - weren't looking great.

And we have had many, many Site Stuff threads complaining about it.

We were really trying to improve user experience - honest.

Fully appreciate that we don't really seem to have achieved that but we're doing our best to fix it.

evilgiraffe · 11/12/2013 11:08

I'm on iPad, version 5.1.1, looking at the desktop site on safari.

Here's what happens with Threads I'm On:
If I click on the thread title, it takes me to the start of the thread (oldest post first as per my settings).
If I click on the most recent username of a 500 post thread, it takes me to the start of the thread, so I have to wait for the page to load, then clck on "last page", then wait for that to load, then scroll to the bottom.

RowanMumsnet · 11/12/2013 11:10

OK can we have a straw poll of those who were already using bookmarks about whether they're working or not?

And usual browser/platform/operating system info please

I'd got the impression that most people's bookmarks had survived

A few of you saying that links in Active not showing as already clicked etc - I wonder whether this is because the re-pagination means they're not being 'recognised' by your cookies as having already been opened

ie if you open them NOW, then click away, then go back to the Active list - are they showing as having already been clicked on?

RustyBear · 11/12/2013 11:10

Ok, further confusion - I bookmarked Rowan's 10.38 post to see if that made any difference. Now, if I come to this thread via active convos I get taken to the bottom of the page (ie the most recent post) but if I go to the site stuff page and try it from there it takes me to the bookmark. (Ipad, iOS7.0.4 Safari).

Just going to try on chrome....

evilgiraffe · 11/12/2013 11:10

Oh, and rowan's link earlier takes me to the oldest post on page one (the start of the thread). The most recent post on that page is the last one on page one (presumably post #500).
