WHY have you got rid of All On One Page?

I HATE pages.

Please give them back!

OP posts:
Valpollicella · 11/12/2013 10:39

Sorry cut off there. Why wouldn't it take me to the first page, first post? Sometimes I don't log in to MN when at work (shhh) but skip through a couple of threads by clicking through the pages?

RowanMumsnet · 11/12/2013 10:40

@TheCurseOfTinsel

O'm having issues clicking on any thread longer than one page, from Active convos.

It takes me straight to the end of the thread, however many pages that is - not a lot of help if I am trying to read a thread from the beginning!

I'm on a Mac, OSX 10.6.8, Safari, Desktop site.

OK - so sounds like you might be better off adjusting your settings so that you're loading oldest post first, not most recent? (Assuming you've got it vice versa at the moment)

You too Val - have you got it set to take you to most recent post first?

ARGHHHH!!!

Now if I click on a post in Active it takes me to the last post. I just want it to go back to bloody normal. Go to the first post of a thread I haven't posted on and go to the post I click on from Threads I'm On.

Not too much to ask for really.

TheCurseOfTinsel · 11/12/2013 10:42

Why do I have to tinker with me settings all of a sudden? They've worked fine for me for ages.

Will go and have a rootle about, but tbh, it's not my problem, is it? Yesterday, MN worked fine. Today it isn't. It's not me who's changed it all! I don't want to have to go and check my customised settings jst to have the experience I had previously set up to have.

It's something to do with the load on our servers. I'll ask Tech for a better explanation

RowanMumsnet · 11/12/2013 10:43

Sorry my last response should have been to DeckTheHalls

Valpollicella · 11/12/2013 10:44

Rowan, thanks but that was my default setting! They've been wiped without me changing them...? like when bloody FB changes it's settings without telling you Shock Grin

Valpollicella · 11/12/2013 10:44

Curse, are we the same person Grin Exactly what I was thinking

Valpollicella · 11/12/2013 10:46

And Rowan, if I'm not logged in, my settings can't apply, even if I now reset them iyswim.

So if I just want to have a amooch around threads without logging in, I'll be taken to the end, and then have to click back to the first page and then through that way. (sorry Grin)

If you have customised to 'show oldest post first' (ie NOT reading the thread backwards) it should take you to the first post of any thread

TIO link will be fixed ASAP

So - on a thread you've already posted on - where do you want to be taken to? Your own most recent post?

How were you achieving this before - where did you used to be taken to when opening a thread you'd already posted on?

SORRY for annoying questions, am really trying to isolate exactly what we need to ask Tech to have a look at

Also SORRY if I've completely misunderstood

WankingInAWinterWonderland · 11/12/2013 10:48

I hoped it was a tech glich, I detest pages Sad

OK - so if you're NOT logged on it's taking you to most recent post? And you'd rather it took you to oldest post?

RustyBear · 11/12/2013 10:49

"If you have customised to 'show oldest post first' (ie NOT reading the thread backwards) it should take you to the first post of any thread"

But it doesn't....

RustyBear · 11/12/2013 10:50

Sorry, which was your setting - oldest post or most recent post?

Could you have a look in your settings to see if it's been changed? I don't think it should have been

But then I am increasingly Confused

RowanMumsnet · 11/12/2013 10:50

OK

That sounds odd

BackOnlyBriefly · 11/12/2013 10:50

There are bandwidth costs if everyone is refreshing 1000 post threads and since each of those posts must be retrieved from the database there are CPU issues too.

I don't know that's the reason because I'm not sure it's actually cost effective. Not all threads are long and if anyone reading a long thread is constantly being taken to the wrong page and then having to click to get to where they wanted to be that's probably just as bad.

exexpat · 11/12/2013 10:51

Can I repeat Mckayz' arghhhh.

I just checked my settings, I am definitely not meant to be seeing threads from most recent post, but if I click on a thread I haven't read, even one with 100+ messages, I go straight to the last one, rather than the OP.

Meanwhile, if I click on a long thread I am on, it goes straight to the OP, and I have to scroll through hundreds of messages to get to the last one I read.

aaarrgh

Still, it means I won't be spending any time on MN until it gets sorted out, which is probably a good thing because of my huge to-do list.

TheCurseOfTinsel · 11/12/2013 10:52

Ok.

I have checked my settings, and tinkered a bit.

I have:

read down like a book (NOT most recent first). Yet still, if I click on a long (ie longer than one page) thread from Active convos, it takes me to the last post. Regardless of whether I have read the thread/clicked on it before/posted on it or not.

So, what am I supposed to change to stop this?

RowanMumsnet · 11/12/2013 10:53

Thanks - that's very clear

So basically we've got it backwards

TheCurseOfTinsel · 11/12/2013 10:54

oh, and also to add - threads I've clicked are no longer a different colour for me (they always used to be).

PirateJelly · 11/12/2013 10:54

God I really hate it... Please change it back Sad

And it has made large threads load really, really bloody slowly.

For example when I clicked on the merchandise thread it took 1 minute 9 secs to finish loading Shock Where as a 500+ thread normally takes under 10 seconds. The first post it takes me to is the Op at the top of the page but the post under it is the most recent post, meaning if I want to read the thread from the beginning I then have to click for the next page which again took almost a minute to load and then scroll to the bottom. Tbh I gave up as it pissed me off so much. I also like to flick back through a long thread to re-read what people have said earlier but if I'm having to wait over a minute for the page to load that's not going to be an option.

Whatever you have done gas certainly not made it easier for me and I'm pissed off tbt. I'm on an IPhone 4 if that makes any difference.
