Hello. We hope you all already feel you can talk to us at MNHQ anytime - either by starting a thread in Site Stuff or by mailing us or reporting a post.

But we also thought it might be useful/interesting to have a live discussion about how how about we do things re moderation etc...

So, we're hosting our very own MNHQ live webchat!

Please do join us at 1pm on Thursday to ask (more or less) anything you want. And, if you can't make then, do feel free to post a nice question here in advance.

@TheAngelshavetheOod

How many of you actually are there ?

There's KatMumsnet, SandyMumsnet, RebeccaMumsnet, RowanMumsnet, OliviaMumsnet, LisaMumsnet, CatherineMumsnet and ToniMumsnet.

We all work different days and shifts, though. So it's usually just one or two of us at a time.

See look?

So far this entire chat (apart from gin) boils down to STOP DELETING STUFF UNLESS IT'S EFF OFF YOU C

Easy peasy lemon squeezy

JustineMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:21

@Blatherskite

Agree volunteer mods would be a nightmare. The only posters who would volunteer would be the ones that really shouldn't

Smile Plus one of those sites that have volunteer mods, naming no names, just had to pay a £250k settlement in a libel case because the mods left something up they shouldn't... 250k Shock That's more than we pay Olivia.

MaryZed · 04/10/2012 13:21

Yes, Hearts, that would be even better than leaving the whole thread.

It would stop a lot of arguments, and stay on our TIO.

nottersgotterdog · 04/10/2012 13:21

Justine, did you get my email on Monday?

It was very appreciative. Grin

FancyPuffin · 04/10/2012 13:21
Shock
Sparklingbrook · 04/10/2012 13:21

The deleted threads are the ones that cause most freds about freds. It's all 'Dude where's the thread?' Grin

SuePurblybilt · 04/10/2012 13:21

I've never pissed off seen ToniMN

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 04/10/2012 13:22

Sloe gin = nectar of the gods Grin

Narked · 04/10/2012 13:22

The deletions thing is based on what is reported isn't it? So if someone reports post Y saying, 'You're a bigot' that might get deleted and leave post X saying, 'All people called Algernon should be rounded up and deported' standing.

Is there a way to flag a thread for MN to look at rather than a specific post? Because sometimes a comment from HQ works better than deletions, particularly on threads where one poster starts to get pilloried.

HelenMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:22

@HeartsTrumpDiamonds

Further to threads being deleted - could you leave the thread name up for a while with a "This thread has been deleted at the request of the OP" or "This thread has been deleted as it has been determined the OP was a troll" or even just "This thread has been deleted"

Leave that message up for a day or couple of days, would save me time hours of advanced searching for threads I have a vague memory of & want to know what happened but haven't bookmarked.

We do actually leave a message up now that displays when you call up the thread.

Did one yesterday about hairy-handedness

But we need to extend it so it shows up in Threads I'm On or summat because it's clear that not many of you see the messages now.

@ChristmasKate

Thanks for the reply.

Kicks techs butt into action.

Is there a plan to thin topics as asked up thread?

I would also like a NN amnesty, although I can imagine it would be a lot of hard work

We did this once - nickname amnesty - it was so complicated tech-wise I fear they would all stage a tunnelled escape from the shed if we suggested it. But we will think on it I promise.

MaryZed · 04/10/2012 13:22

You haven't commented on my suggestion that "you are bigoted" for example isn't an attack. It's a statement.

HelenMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:23

@SuePurblybilt

I've never pissed off seen ToniMN

She's very new. And mostly does general enquiries over the weekend.

We've yet to bloody her on the boards. Grin

OP posts:
StripyShoes · 04/10/2012 13:23

Olivia should get paid more. She always gets the norty shifts!

SuePurblybilt · 04/10/2012 13:23

Hazing, is that the term? Grin

MaryZed · 04/10/2012 13:24

See, I don't think "in my opinion your post is very bigoted" or "in my opinion you are talking bollocks" or "I think your views would be unacceptable in polite society" are attacks.

But those are the type of comments that are getting deleted.

EmmaMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:24

@Iggly

On a more serious note though please can we improve the local pages/boards? I'm a tsarina thingy but didn't get any info on how to update the pages etc. new mums come here looking for info like baby groups etc but end up on nethunsmums as it has much better info.

Hi Iggly, We are very close to launching our new Local pages, which is why we've disabled the ability to load up listings at the moment. We hope you'll like the new designs and navigation? More from us next week on this. We would still love you to be involved locally, and there will be plenty of opportunities for anyone who wants to join in. I'll PM you with a few more details.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 04/10/2012 13:24

What is a NN amnesty,sorry

Narked · 04/10/2012 13:24

I haven't seen ToniMumsnet around. You aren't being mean to the new girl are you?

FancyPuffin · 04/10/2012 13:24

I've asked all proper serious questions and been ignored missed out [passive aggressive smiley] secretly cries

So I would like to ask;

Out of everyone you've had in for a webchat who has been the biggest pain in the arse? Have you ever refused anyone?

And most importantly;

Can Peter Andre come in for a webchat?

JustineMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:25

@FunnysInLaJardin

the other issue is that a lot of us 'ole timers' just don't report as we deal with any issues on the thread. Tis how we have been brought up. Some newer member report anything and everything

We do try to exercise some subtlety and take each post as it comes rather than have a list of words/phrases etc that get auto deleted.

All those forums we've just met with have auto censoring of swear words by the way. Couldn't believe we didn't!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/10/2012 13:25

Can we have a [SwigsGinEmoticon] ?

Could be vair useful.....

SuePurblybilt · 04/10/2012 13:25

Nicknames, Hearts. Giving up all the old sock puppeting names you never use any more.

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 13:25

Oh no! I'd almost feel sorry for him Grin
