"This is a wind up" was acceptable in the olden days.

But not now.

There's been a few threads recently where the OP was not about begging, emotional vampires, beyond the pale stuff and that ilk.

Just stuff, that if you were having a conversation with your mates, you'd express incredulity.

Why can't these comments be left to stand, rather than a reflex actoin of just zapping them?

Surely there's a difference between a "you've gotta be kiddin" and trill hunting?

Please, please take each comment/thread as a separate case, I really think there's a danger of spoiling the boards with this eagerness to eradicate any implucation of doubt.

The thing is, we are big girls and boys. Someone calls me a cunt, well, its their opinion. And I would rather know whic posters to put on my shitlist watch for. So I don't report, even if I should. I call someone a delusional fool and it gets pounced on by owd busyfingers.

FrankWippery · 11/09/2012 15:40

It may not have helped GetOrf, but my goodness it would have given me a giggle if you'd done it.

HelenMN yep - there are a few, perhaps 5 or 6, that I have had no response to. There are also several that I have simply not bothered reporting in the past week for precisely that reason. I was accused (quite nastily at that) of frequently skipping across the boards trollhunting which is not something that I have done at all. Needless to say that has pissed me off massively and has made me extremely reluctant to even report blatant trolling. Bitter taste and all that.

Looking back over threads from as little as a year ago the tone has changed enormously. Posts that are being deleted left right and centre now are posts that just haven't been touched before. Why? Just why? Or have we been invaded by a bunch of pathetic softies who can't take a genuine question asking them to clarify something and run to MNHQ saying 'the meanies, the meanies'?

One week BlameItOnTheCuervo has 7 kids, next week she has 9. Then she has no arms and this week no head. I will question her relentlessly for that GrinWink

Oh, and she's a cunt. NOW can I go on your shit list?

RebeccaMumsnet · 11/09/2012 15:42

@TantrumsAndGoldAndOrange

If you are nasty to someone but stay within the talk guidelines that's ok. Plenty of people have this down to a fine art.

You are correct about having it down to a fine art, we are certainly not naive to this and if someone is persistently posting in that way and it is reported to us, we will mail them about it.

We do also have warnings against goading and posting to inflame in our guidelines and we do follow up on this if it is reported to us.

BlameItOnTheCuervo · 11/09/2012 15:44

As an illiterate college professor with 4dcs under 1 I shall put you on my list in red ink.

FrankWippery · 11/09/2012 15:47

You'll be a fighter pilot while simultaneously BFing your triplets next week. I know your sort.

BlameItOnTheCuervo · 11/09/2012 15:49

I know cuervo in real life, and you are being so mean. He is a wonderful bullfighter and a good mother to all 8 children.

FancyPuffin · 11/09/2012 15:50

The thing is though, that even when it is blatant trolling we are deleted;

A glimpse of the future

I'm sorry to hear that you are currently on fire liarliar may I offer you a hug and the suggestion of water. If you pm me your paypal details I will donate to a water fund.

BlameItOnTheCuervo · 11/09/2012 15:53

Yes, fancypuffin, and I too was Hmm about the past troll thread going. It helped open at least one posters eyes to the sort of twattery that had gone on thanks to banned posters.

FrankWippery · 11/09/2012 15:59

That FancyPuffin - you have to watch her too...Grin

Yes, because troll hunting is against our guidelines regardless of whether or not you are right.

Many genuine MNetters and a couple of MNHQers have been called troll before and it's awful.

Many people NC when something happens in their life that is a bit out of the ordinary, a quick report and we can reassure you that they are the real deal or investigate further and ban/post etc if not. There is no reason to troll hunt on the thread.

FancyPuffin · 11/09/2012 16:12

But now we can't ask for clarification either Rebecca

I might say;

So you are actually on fire in the pant region right now liarliar? as in flames on you? Why don't you douse yourself instead of asking for watery handouts?

Magic poof

Could I just point that the thread title is wrong? Yes, indeed, MNHQ may give us a break - it is in their purview. However, the real question is 'Will they?'

I don't remember stepping into the time machine, zooming me back a few months when we last had this crap awful problem issue with zealous deletions.

But I guess I am back there anyway :o

Pinot · 11/09/2012 19:53
