Why is there a baking topic?

I thought there was a move to rationalise the number of topics on MN.

It was bad enough having Recipes and Food. Now it's Recipes and Food and Baking (oh and Weaning I think). Wouldn't one "Feed The World" topic be preferable?

Sorry if this has been covered already.

this yesterday yes I would.
I wouldn't have started a thread at all, because I wasn't actively looking for a manky bananas solution.
I saw baking, took a little nosey and then said "Aahah" in an Alan Partridge like fashion.

differentname it isn't just about seeing the topics though, it's the fact that half the time people don't know where to post things because there are just so many topics.

if you aren't sure where to put something it takes an absolute age to trawl through all the lists of topics and find the most appropriate place to put it

which means that most of the time people just start them in chat or AIBU.

isla well that's a different matter entirely then! although if it was a specific thread title that led to your "ahah!" moment then I still maintain that you may well have seen that regardless of what topic it was actually in.. in active convos or just under a differently headed topic

Thanks everyone. This is all really helpful though not sure 'parenting shit' is really a goer

Do keep the suggestions coming.

And don't worry about Baking: no plans to cull that....

Keep Baking and Food, but get rid of recipes.

And yes PLEASE sort out the topic selection thing in advanced search, as Drought says, it doesn't work at all on an Ipad and is cumbersome on a normal computer. It would help if you could just type in the first few letters of your chosen topic and it would give you a drop down list to choose from.
