Why is there a baking topic?

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 10/05/2012 16:12

I thought there was a move to rationalise the number of topics on MN.

It was bad enough having Recipes and Food. Now it's Recipes and Food and Baking (oh and Weaning I think). Wouldn't one "Feed The World" topic be preferable?

Sorry if this has been covered already.

Lord has it, I reckon.

Yes - great idea lord.

Slubberdegullion · 17/05/2012 20:33

Careful now Jenai, careful

You know not with whom and what you mess.

Which topics do you think contain the highest concentration of posters with knives, saws, big fucking chopper things the name of which escapes me at the moment, intimidating mallets, other pointy shit, snares, shewees, technical clothing and dontfuckwithme goretex shoes and knowledge of edible flora.

mm?

LordFlasheart · 17/05/2012 20:35

Baking?

Slubberdegullion · 17/05/2012 20:35

Yeah I'l happy with LordFlasheart,s suggestion, apart from The great outdoors is missing.

[high maintenance]

Slubberdegullion · 17/05/2012 20:37

no

Slubberdegullion · 17/05/2012 20:38

An axe.

Jesus wept

HoneyDragonWearingLederhosen · 17/05/2012 20:39

I think each topic should have a sponsor/founder

Getorf can have rants
Hecate can have AIBU as she is always reasonable
Hully can run mindless gibbering
Pinot can be in charge of baby animals
Dooin can have Big animals
Sue can run telly/Peter Andre

And so on and so forth

IslaValargeone · 17/05/2012 20:40

Listen people, I would still have a bowl full of manky bananas had I not come across the baking topic today. Leave iiiiiiiit!

HoneyDragonWearingLederhosen · 17/05/2012 20:42

And if anyone gets rid of baking I'll kick 'em in the fanjo/ nadgers

Slubberdegullion · 17/05/2012 20:42

Ooooh I have a bowl of manky bananas

TheCunningStunt · 17/05/2012 20:49

I love the baking topic. I post in other sections, but this topic is really useful to me. I never use relationships, or primary....but don't think we should slim those down. Everyone's likes are different. A general food topic would get really busy (I think) and threads would get lost/go unanswered. The benefit of sub topics is threads get a fighting chance of being answered. I have posted in chat and my thread has disappeared before its been looked at.

That's not to say some sub topics are needed or can't be combined....just leave baking alone alright? Or I'll bake buns and throw themWink Grin

LordFlasheart · 17/05/2012 21:16

I want a home brew topic

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 17/05/2012 21:31

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 17/05/2012 21:32

Ways, even.

In these straitened times, it'd be a godsend.

OP posts:
thisisyesterday · 17/05/2012 21:39

isla no you wouldn't.

you'd have posted in "food" what shall i do with my bananas and the same people would have told you

or you'd have done a search, or googled, for things to make with old bananas and found out!

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 17/05/2012 21:40

tiy is HARD LINE

OP posts:
thisisyesterday · 17/05/2012 21:41

i'm happy to leave camping

although i never did understand why we need camping AND the great outdoors... camping could just come under the great outdoors surely?

silentboob there is a "products" topic where you can ask about htings you want to buy.

although i am sure we'll be doing away with that soon enough

thisisyesterday · 17/05/2012 21:42

you gotta be jenai, this is no time for being weak and kind.

this is tough love. they'll all thank us for it in the end

thisisyesterday · 17/05/2012 21:43

i would not be the slightest bit sad to see AIBU go either.

i used to quite like when people posted in chat with the title "am i being unreasonable number 9328509438u6[0uq3046u31"

and I do think it tends to bring out the worst in some posters who are just dying to say YABU regardless of what anyone posts.
but that's probably a whole other thread

DroughtMyArse · 18/05/2012 06:21

MNHQ - please can your sort out the advanced search thing for searching under a specific topic, I CANNOT (and never have in the years I have been on here) sort out the arrow moving thingy. Now, on the iPad, it just does not work at all. PLEASE!

Oh and please leave baking alone (mmmm Biscuits). Main meals, baking, drink. I am always confused between food and recipes. If the advanced search thingy worked for me it wouldn't matter Grin

TheSkiingGardener · 18/05/2012 06:34

How about any topic that attracts less than 1 post a day gets cut, ruthlessly, with an axe if necessary.

And then rationalise what's left.

Or MNHQ could choose a section a week, propose how it would be slimmed down, and then we could fight it out for a week. Whatever survived the fight, gets to stay?

ObviouslyOblivious · 18/05/2012 07:38

Get rid of old topics - world cup 2010 etc.
Then get rid of AIBU and everyone will have to use the proper topics as there's no area 'for the traffic'.

differentnameforthis · 18/05/2012 08:13

You can hide them, I don't see what the issue is!

TheFoosa · 18/05/2012 08:22

I like thisisyesterday's rather utilitarian
