I am aware that you can't divulge the means by which you determine whether or not a poster is genuine, predominantly because if you make that common knowledge then posters will know how to avoid being detected in the future.

but jess (long ongoing eleven weeks abortion threads) threads have now been deleted for being a troll, and I was wondering if, given it's the site users who usually report these things, we could perhaps have a bit more by way of explanation?

e.g. when sassysusan was banned, mn hq confirmed that she had previously posted as washwithcare, and users were able to identify.

There has been some speculation that jess was dizzymare, and I wondered whether this was the case?

Also, these threads have been ongoing for over a month now. How is it that it takes quite this long to determine that someone isn't actually all they seem?

I should have said warn them by PM as well as contacting MNHQ - and warn in a general way maybe?

I would be very cautious about PMing people. For a start you could be pming a sock puppet or people could react very badly. Far safer to report your concerns.

You're right, BeerTricks. Tbh, I have never been in the position of spotting a troll and seeing others being sucked in - my trolldar is rubbish - so I am trying to imagine what I'd do if I were in that position. I suppose the best thing would be to contact MNHQ about the troll, and to add the info that I thought someone vulnerable was being adversely affected. Then leave it in their hands.

Another "not as she seemed" poster, have just seen. TableForOne on the MH boards. I missed it but theres a thread in chat asking and Rebecca has just confirmed.

Is anybody else reading the titles in active conversations and without even clicking on them wondering if they are a troll or not? I know I am.

I vair cleverly worded my FFS post acksherly MaryZ to avoid a deletion (hopefully) I FFS'd at the attributes of the thread, which may or may not bear resemblance to those expressed by trolls.

Even when all the alarm bells are ringing I'd rather try to give helpful advice on the very slim chance that someone actually needs it. But then again I am a dreadful Pollyanna. :o
