MNHQ I have a question about posters' history

I have had a search of this but couldn't find anything so sorry if it's been discussed before and I've missed it.

What is your stance on a poster searching someone's posting history and bringing it up on another thread in an accusatory way or to attack that poster?

completely random and probably feeble e.g "Ah I see you say you bought a budgie and now you've gone and got a cat, that poor budgie I think that's disgusting and cruel"

Is it merely frowned upon, or if one finds it offensive what should one do?

TIA

I fully agree with you on the mental health issue, though, Valar.

SuePurblybilt · 16/02/2012 19:25

TOO MANY BROKEN HEARTS IN THE WORLD, THAT'S TOO MANY DREAMS HAVE BEEN BROKEN IN TWO.

I think the dragging up of other threads usually gets squashed quite quickly by other posters, ime.

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 16/02/2012 19:25

Yeh, people might change their minds about something, or not always be completely consistent. Perhaps they might like playing at being a bit different on different threads without necessarily feeling the need for a name-change.

On my assertiveness course they told us one of our assertive rights was the right to change our minds .... I think I'm going to enjoy becoming increasingly inconsistent in my old age, as well as wearing more purple ! Grin

Sue Grin Yeahhhhhhh!

Honeydragon · 16/02/2012 19:29

I once commented that a poster had had previous similar problems and was accused of obsessive stalking, I was trying to help and the only reason i remembered her was because she had gone bat shit cer-razy on her previous thread which was only about three weeks previous.

One was not amused.

Honeydragon · 16/02/2012 19:31

Sue you fucker you've just ear wormed me Hmm

SuePurblybilt · 16/02/2012 19:32

Actually, I have been a little bit Hmm at posters who plead poverty in a very noticeable way and then post about a new car/puppy/platinum bouncy castle the week after. I don't say anything, but I do think it sometimes.
You can remember without searching, of course. Or Stalking.

ESPECIALLY FOR YOU.

I think we should get rid of advanced search. It's only used in a creepy way.

I have a good memory too but don't comment on the thread as Olivia says 'its not cricket'.

But I do an internal Hmm

I do that a lot on here though.

MrsCampbellBlack · 16/02/2012 20:34

Mind you as I tend to mostly stick to S&B - the Hmm isn't that serious I guess Wink

shineoncubiczirconia · 16/02/2012 20:35

I use advanced search A LOT. 99% of that usage is for advice. 0.5% looking for lost threads. 0.5% checking out if a poster's usually a twonk or just having a bad day.

TessTickular · 16/02/2012 20:37

Advice?

shineoncubiczirconia · 16/02/2012 20:37

I have an excellent memory and know who MrsCB used to be for example.

TwoStepsBack · 16/02/2012 20:37

I think dragging Jason Donovan lyrics onto the thread from 1991 is just not cricket.

MrsCampbellBlack · 16/02/2012 20:41

To be fair I post the same old stuff about white jeans and leopard print so am not a terribly good name-changer Wink

Oh and I use advanced search for advice about holidays/school stuff/health stuff and its very useful

Honeydragon · 16/02/2012 20:41

MrsCB

Sorry should have said I mentioned it to be helpful .... trying to establish what she had tried since the previous op and to check it was the same op I was thinking off, and she got really cross at me for remembering. I wasn't mentioning it to be a cow. Blush

nenevomito · 16/02/2012 20:43

Especially for you!

TalkinPeace2 · 16/02/2012 20:44

I recognise the names of people who used to post on FHG on ebay 5 years ago and ask how they are when I see them on here
does that make me a stalker or just polite?

crazynanna · 16/02/2012 20:45

I have no idea how to do a search Confused

OliviaMumsnet · 16/02/2012 20:45

@StealthPolarBear

Olivia are you drunk? That made no sense!

Sadly not
I do have whole nut
It did make sense I think

shineoncubiczirconia · 16/02/2012 20:45

I'm only allowed on S&B once per annum or MN crashes.

bibbitybobbityhat · 16/02/2012 20:46

Extremely consternated as to how you go about doing an "internal" search MrsCB ??
