MNHQ I have a question about posters' history

I have had a search of this but couldn't find anything so sorry if it's been discussed before and I've missed it.

What is your stance on a poster searching someone's posting history and bringing it up on another thread in an accusatory way or to attack that poster?

completely random and probably feeble e.g "Ah I see you say you bought a budgie and now you've gone and got a cat, that poor budgie I think that's disgusting and cruel"

Is it merely frowned upon, or if one finds it offensive what should one do?

Don't people generally do that search thing when they suspect poster of being of the hairy handed variety?

How do you differentiate between a poster who searches old threads with "intent" and posters who possess a memory?

I've before been accused of 'stalking' someone, far from it - just remembered what she'd said a week previous.

Yes I think generally Hecate but on occasion it's just to start or stir up more of a ruck where the two are not agreeing on a subject.

Good point AlpinePony some times you do just happen to remember things, and maybe you would do a search to verify what you thought you'd remembered, - all okay in my opinion.

I would seriously worry for the mental health of anyone who is inclined to go searching the history of a poster just to throw things at them during an online argument.
