MNHQ I have a question about posters' history

I have had a search of this but couldn't find anything so sorry if it's been discussed before and I've missed it.

What is your stance on a poster searching someone's posting history and bringing it up on another thread in an accusatory way or to attack that poster?

completely random and probably feeble e.g "Ah I see you say you bought a budgie and now you've gone and got a cat, that poor budgie I think that's disgusting and cruel"

Is it merely frowned upon, or if one finds it offensive what should one do?

TIA

Oh I like your S&B threads where you have to buy something in m&S [freaky memory]

Its like hully and her dress that has to be blue and Showy and her frock that puddles.

I am trying to find an angle from which "I would think that following the spirit of the site that Ne Cricket Pas" is grammatically correct :o

I think it should be "il ne criquet pas"

TwoStepsBack · 16/02/2012 20:55

il n'est tout simplement pas le cricket ???

SuePurblybilt · 16/02/2012 20:55

Yes I was wondering if Olivia needed some french lessons.

Ce n'est pas le cricket.

shineoncubiczirconia · 16/02/2012 21:00

Je ne suis pas el shiney.

TalkinPeace2 · 16/02/2012 21:22

Give yourself a Shiny. OK Tiggs.

I should say that the personal attack (I have decided that's what it was) was not aimed at me but a fellow poster on the thread, I did call the other poster on it, saying it was bad form, but then checked here that I wasn't talking out of my arse Grin - it turns out I wasn't for a change

Oh and I'd like to thank Pinot for bringing a bit of Donovan onto the thread.

Just to say I felt fairly broke before Christmas as it feels such an expensive time and I wanted to get a little something for everyone in the family as well as for the DCs ( and my job had recently had a drastic cut in hours) I was very appreciative of posters giving reassurance and encouragement, with suggestions and links to something I wanted to get for the DCs with money from DGPs. (A table tennis table for both those with excellent memories and others with a more normal brain)

Anyway, other times I might feel much less broke, and could for example post about going on a snorkeling holiday with all the family. But this was only possible for us as generously paid for by grandparents (on DHs side this time)

Just saying that people's finances and material resources can be complicated and there could be any number of reasons for apparent discrepancies.

( But you didn't mean me did you ? SuePurbley [paranoid] emoticon )

< wonders what it would be like to have a memory. Bumps nose on glass again.
(Goldfish brain !) >

SuePurblybilt · 17/02/2012 09:16

I didn't mean anyone in particular - just what I've noticed over the years. My spreadsheet is sadly neglected Grinso I'm shit at the names.
But deffo not you, no. I have never noticed you do that.

Pinot · 17/02/2012 09:36

I believe theres always a place for a bit of Le Donovan

MrsJAlfredPrufrock · 17/02/2012 09:40

So is his a bread about a thread? That isn't cricket.

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 17/02/2012 09:41

I wasn't really being that paranoid Sue (well, I don't think so Blush) - just thinking it's interesting why posters might appear to post in inconsistent ways.

I don't like reading posts though where you feel people are after money.
I think it's undesirable really to have MNers putting money into other posters bank accounts - though a friendly food parcel from someone nearby or Christmas pressie for a child seems very different to me.

And the coming together to make a beautiful knitted blanket is obviously in a completely different league - MN at it's best Smile

MinnieBar · 17/02/2012 09:46

Ha, I was going to comment on Olivia's French but didn't as I thought it could be construed as a personal attack especially as she got huffy when I jokingly suggested she was over 40 t'other day. Grin

nenevomito · 17/02/2012 09:50

A bread about a thread?

Fantastic! We're back to toast again Grin does anyone else like it with bovril on?

SuePurblybilt · 17/02/2012 09:50

Oh, was it French? Wink

W0rmy · 17/02/2012 09:51

No Prufcock it isn't a thread about a thread, it is a perfectly valid question to MNHQ on the Mumsnet stance on posters using the search history facility to attack and hound other posters.

HTH

found anything else yet?
